Stupid and lazy solution to just eliminate Regeneration. They could have change it to be a replacement efect with a cost, something like dredge. For example
Current Regeneration
{cost}: Regenerate this. (The next time this creature would be destroyed this turn, it isn't. Instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat.)
New Template
Regeneration {cost} (The next time this creature would be destroyed this turn, you may pay G. If you do, it isn't. Instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat.)
Its not like they haven't changed the template and functionality of other abilities like in the past, like with indestructible, lifelink, threshold (from keyword to ability word), etc
@rick90 you can cut one island, you only need 2. Also what they said above about the remands... you could consider another spell snare and a countersquall
Wow. Great card. Probably doesn't fit in classic delver ,but we may see some new builds.
Thassa is still better than this in a classic delver build, specially if it runs Geist so you can make him unblockable. Saheeli is good, but not delver good, I think
...Before I get into the blocks, I always start by asking: How was the last year of Magic design? It was a transitional year. We were changing over to an entirely new model, and that transition proved more difficult than I think we realized at the time. There were plenty of highlights, as I'll get into in a second, but I think this last year to me was more defined as a year of important lessons. We're on the verge of another big step up in Magic design technology, and this last year has been a valuable learning year...
Is he talking here about the two-block model or something new coming in kaladesh?
On another note, we got another great option in Unsubstantiate. This one is a doozy. It's going to take a second for me to wrap my mind around this one, but it looks sweet!
It looks tempting, versatile and very good at "tempoing", but these days hard answers seem to be the best choice... maybe if the meta changes, we will have to wait and see
...Long Road Home looks like an interesting card to test in our deck....
PS- I am a little upset that they gave white a 2 CMC Instant that answers an attacking Geist of Saint Traft. I was very comfortable knowing that the only playable sacrifice affects were in black, now jeskai control will have an answer to geist, however, we can just sacrifice the angel during combat.
Not to rain on your parade but... Long Road Home is just a non-arcane Otherworldly Journey... and regarding the scenario with geist and Blessed Alliance, an opponent can just cast the alliance in responce to geist's trigger going to the stack, before the angel comes in.
BTW I've been away from this thread because I'm now on Grixis Delver, and with yesterday's results, I don't think I'll be switching back to Jeskai any time soon, but still keep on the lookout in any case this decks gets another shot at being great... Good luck to you all
It annoys me that people compare new mechanics like this one and start saying that magic is imitating other collectable card games. You seem to forget that Magic is the original CCG, the design space for these games is kind of the same, and the guys in magic R&D are more responsable exploring this space, taking more time to reach certain mechanics because they care about the long term life of the game
What ever happened with the vampire army Sorin was amassing with the help of Olivia? I guess this conflict will resolve in eldritch moon. Does he plan to use that army to fight Nahiri?
Long time Delver player here... the fact that delver hasn't been doing great in modern recently has got me thinking... could something like Misdirection help delver decks dodge removal and 1 cmc discard spells?
Great report, thanks for sharing.
As MarcWizard said, you should put in your SB a couple of Anger of the Gods, rather than Grafdigger's Cage, they will be helpful in more machups than the cage
@GofyTomcat1 Regarding your last posted deck... I don't want to sound like the kind of person I hate but, where are your early threats? I ask this because you title your deck as "now with more tempo", but one of the keys of tempo is landing an early threat and protecting it while disrupting your opponent, and your build seems more midrange. I insist a lot in this kind of thing because I think we really need to clarify the deck's objective or strategy so we can better focus in discussing it and optimizing, otherwise the conversation gets diluted. Also, your maindeck has 62 cards... is it the right number or is there a mistake in the number of lands?
Can you share recent result with your lists? you say you run 2 (at least), I would like to know which one has worked better for you, so we can focus in making it even better.
Edit: One thing I like about your deck is the Keranos, God of Storms in the sideboard, think it can really help in the games this deck struggles the most
@CurdBros
For the creature flex spot I think I would prefer Stormchaser Mage, maybe you could fit a second but I don't know what creature you could take out for it, maybe the 2 abbots, and add the 2nd Stormchaser and a 3rd Snapcaster Mage? Also, since you mentioned that Abbot has been just ok and sometimes has been stuck in hand, meybe is not that bad idea to cut it off. The way I see it, it forces you to cast it with 4+ lands (since you want to take advantage of a possible Helix, Charm, Geist, Electrolyze or Cerebral Vortex flip. If you cut it, Maybe you could even go to down to 19 lands... maybe that land you cut could be Wandering Fumarole? Hahahaha it seems I was just leading to that point alll along... The fact is, from my personal experience, I used to run Celestial Colonnade in my deck a long time ago, and despite I liked having it in my deck, I started to realize I lost more games to it than the ones it won me. You see, this deck wants pretty much all its lands to ETB untapped, thats key to tempo/aggro strategies... Then again thats just my humble opinion, but if your build includes Monastery Swiftspear and Kiln Fiend/Stormchaser Mage, you want to play as fast as you can.
@GofyTomcat1
Why don't you like Delver? what has he ever done to you? He is great in this deck, and at least I think a better top deck than Swiftspear. I see a point in the fact that you have a low spells count to flip him, maybe you could try to cut a couple of lands, 22 seem like a lot, but thats just a suggestion, you know your build better than I do. Also, you seem to like Jeskai Charm a lot, but I think you are missing one of the cards that makes the most of it, and I mean Young Pyromancer. Did you try and didn't like him? if you haven't, I would love for you to try him and to hear how it goes.
