Are GW hatebears a terrible matchup? I just get wrecked everytime I play against it
If you are playing the lightning bolt style of deck, you should be able to fend off anti-search effects with bolts and post board you have Anger of the Gods to deal with the bears. GQ might be an issue but I've rarely had a real issue with it when playing. The Thalia effects are definitely not the big problem when playing this deck.
@mikeduges
Went 5-0 at a modern event with a direct replacement of the Relics for a playset of Oath of Nissa and the rest of main deck being the same. The sideboard was more artifact hate and a singleton of Stuffy Doll (Rogue tech vs Leyline). The card definitely helps and the conditional card draw is kinda awkward but usually you're fine with the card you select. The reason I really liked the card was it made Explore insanely better. To take advantage of Explore the amount of lands you need is actually kinda high. Oath facilitates that in a big way. And it just digs more for that primetime for the non-Scapeshift Valakut trigger win. Ideally you want a Scapeshift in hand when you use Oath but since the secondary win condition is also sufficient I think it's fine.
I've been playing the deck for a while and with the recent addition of some Painful Truths the deck seems to be better than bobs when I kept smashing myself for 4 when drawing rhinos. The volume of cards definitely help and let me gas back up. Here is the list I am running. I am running terrible fetch lands but I don't have any original Zendikar and am making do. Any feedback would be great. Linvala will eventually take up the 1 of Timely
Just a random thought, would just throwing in a playset of Gitaxian Probes along with the Serum Visions help the deck in general? More digging and it technically reduces the deck down to 56 cards to find those 7 Second Sunrises / 4 Engines
The sideboard is still wonky right now. Right now it's just 2 Swan Songs.
The MTGGoldfish list has issues outside of the budget constraint. I have some issues with lists that only have 1 win condition and also one that doesn't have a codex shredder in the maindeck. The deck sans the opals is so cheap that one can do better than the eggs that were mentioned in the article. I do like Refurrin's list much more than the MGTGoldfish list but with one more win condition, be it one more spellbomb, a fat expensive creature, or a Banefire. Props to the 1 of bauble. It does help occasionally against surgical extractions.
It's kind of a funny deck that it the deck is so all in that most of the sideboard is purely to protect the combo and without the combo there is no win condition in the deck. The last modern event I went to, I had 2 dispel and 2 spell pierce in the board for fun. It ended up being boarded 3/4 matches, the only exception being an abzan podless pod list. I want to figure out what the right sideboard for this deck is and if its even viable to have permission in the deck in the main if the card draw of the deck is strong enough. I am not sure at this time but I will test it a bit more.
Nice record on the games there Boce, they probably didn't see Eggs being in top 4 XD.
The combos themselves is basically a secondary out. The deck plays out more to value town your opponent out of the game. Hence the deck is more resilient to removal compared to Abzan Company lists that are floating around imo.
This is another deck called urza's eggs. There is an old primer of it floating around the forum. The deck doesn't really rely on always going off on turn 4 and can be a much more durdly deck until you know you can go off. I have played a variant of this with removal (3 paths) and some token generators and the deck seems fine. If you're not looking into racing people then this deck can be acceptable. I don't know if this is a thing but I like this version on MODO and people seems to go for these versions of eggs on modo in casual queues. Might be something to think about.
@sodek
I'm not sure how good Day's Undoing is but I'll get a few and try it out at my local modern night tonight.
I have been wanting to try and build this list and currently do not really have the funds to buy the black hand disruption for me so I have had to drop the color entirely. I decided to take an older(?) approach and focused on controlling the board with counterspells and decided to utilize a faster clock option with the original plan of shredding/bell for the win. I guess this is so different from the current deck lists that are floating around so any advice would be great in improving this.
Having an opening bloom is amazing but if you draw a bloom turn 3 or during your combo it basically is a dead card. Just reliably reshaping 2 blooms or a shredder/kci seemed more useful to me but I could be wrong.
Glad that eggs is getting some love. Nice finish Sodek. I was wondering your opinion of having a 4 of Lotus Bloom in your deck. Do you feel that is a good amount? Also how is conjurers bauble also working for you? I usually just rely on noxious revival and codex shredder to go infinite.
If you are going to be using tron lands and KCI and especially without any Reshape, drop the Lotus Blooms and consider investing into 2-3 Mox Opal. They are pricey for a reason and for decks that throw out as much artifacts that we do, it is an amazing effect. If that is difficult, consider going for a drug out game to stall until you can egg off with KCI and putting some Reshape in the blooms in the deck. Drop the mountain and maybe the plains as well. You get all the out of place colored lands you need through the filter eggs and replace with Seachrome Coast or another Adarkar Wastes. Also another note on what you were commenting on the Cloud Key or Etherium Sculptor, you don't need either. You generate so much mana through KCI that this should never be required to play. If you are worried about hate cards such as Thalia, a mainboard of 1-2 Path to Exile is also good at removing threats. Also have a Codex Shredder in there somewhere. It lets you loop infinitely. Better than Conjurer's Bauble since it lets you mill yourself for a bigger Open the Vaults when the time comes and it comes into your hand and does not require it to be shuffled..
Just some thoughts after briefly going through your list.
@RefurinnSC
It comes from my UW Tron Eggs variant sideboard. It comes into play versus the very rare true control decks that mostly are just trying to stall. You can technically egg off with your Open the Vaults and Faith's Reward from ever really resolving. If you manage to get him down with a resolved KCI, you should be golden. They cant counter all your egg drops. That card has not seen any real play yet so the jury is still out on it but you can definitely get our momentum with this in play.
