I'm pretty sure Selvaxri was the first person to use the flabbergastrix to add emphasis to ads in the 1950s when he was selling pulp comics he pressed himself from recycled Prussian Francs.

The last game I finished was called Brothers. It was free on xbox360 and it was awesome and some how I made it all the way through without unlocking a single achievement which is amazing since I usually get them all the time from reloading or opening 5 doors.
If it's still free, try it out.

  • posted a message on Can anyone in the Magic universe beat Goku?
I seem to remember a little bit from dbz like when Cell said from that height Goku's blast would destroy the planet but at the last second he used instant transmission to point blank Cell who survived. So damage from Goku can be prevented, deflected, and thwarted by regeneration shields.
That being said, we don't know how the physics work here.
For instance Goku trains at gazillion times Earth gravity but we don't know the difference between the speed of light in either of these worlds versus the other or the speed of magic. Or even the strength of magic vs ki. Examples: How long does it take to power up Goku versus getting a planeswalker to 7 mana? Is kamehama or whatever instant, or sorcery speed? Does it penetrate forcefield? What happens if the first word spoken is Word of Command, or Word of Seizing?
How did Goku come to interact with the mtgcharacter? Did Yawgmoth move in on Goku's planet or did Goku just get punched so hard he flew through the cosmos and crash land at Nicol Bolas' feet? What if he lands in an area experiencing Planar Chaos, Dimensional Breach, Lethal Vapor, etc
    What is Goku's cmc?
How does he interact with effects like Solitary Confinement, Ensnaring Bridge, or Statecraft?

Is Goku a planeswalker with a lot of loyalty abilities? I think he's a legendary creature with some equipment like Pocket full of Sensu Beans and a choice aura or two. Figure of Destiny style but Legendary and Mythic.

I saw an episode of Dragon Ball where a young Goku fought an Easter Bunny with a Midas Touch effect that turns anything he touches into a carrot. Goku wasn't immune to the effect he would have been turned to a carrot. How is this different from Phage's ability?
Goku is very vulnerable to Treachery, he has no way off world the plane in the case of a Planar Collapse of the shard, or universe he's standing in.
Goku is powerful and has a lot of experience with all sorts of bad guys but he doesn't seem well equipped to handle Divine Intervention, Wrath of God, Divine Verdict, etc

How does Goku battle Child of Alara? He's gonna punch a baby? How does he beat Stuffy Doll even?
If he encounters the Cromat, an Eldrazi, Progenitus, or some crazy stuff like that it's all bad for him.
Most big gnarly stuff he has no problem with like B.F.M. He probably 1hitKOs easily .
I think a lot of planeswalkers might cast some wicked spells that might even be on the ban list and Goku just isn't all that in the mtg universe(s)

  • posted a message on Card Game Design
Here's one new concept I thought of.
It's a game that you can play solitaire or against others.

    The theme is pinball machines.

Each "machine" comes in 9 parts (for binder pages) randomly distributed throughout packs.
Once assembled each machine takes up a whole binder page for viewing all the art.
Each machine is either an actual pinball machine that exists (for nostalgia highs)
Or a made up one since they are not making many these days.

Each card is a piece of a machine. On the face, art and on the back some simple icons, numbers, and basically how to score that piece.
The icons show which dice to roll and what you expect to happen. Multiball, multiplier, hold, tilt etc
Booster packs also randomly contain cards that interact with the table in some way. These maybe bump your opponent's table causing him to get TILT and lose a ball or grant an extra ball to your multiball bonus. These cards are kept in a small deck you prepare before hand.
    High score wins.
Score is determined by the individual machine, die rolls, and how well the player interacts with the machine.
You can build your machine a few different ways thanks to promos, and alternative art. On your My Little Pony machine you might get a rainbow dash right flipper you like better than the fluttershy one you were using because it looks better, gives a d10 instead of d6, or lets you survive a harder bump.
You get expansions for Marvel, Walking Dead, Garbage pail kids, anything.
It's a licensing nightmare but a marketing giant. With opportunities to cross promote anything trendy.

Cards could represent giant magnets, sketchy repair jobs, well oiled parts, or anything else that could be funny or interesting.
Parts of a pinball machine are plungers, paddles, ramps, etc

Highly collectable, draftable, customizable, easily marketable.
Spikes will try to out sabotage their opponents
Johnnys will try crank out crazy multipliers with risky dice combos
Timmys will TILT so hard they are practically holding the table and shaking it
Vorthos will collect all the tables, and build flavorful decks to accompany each machine.
You can sell special dice with logos instead of 1s or 20s.
There is a solid concept here. I'll take a small %$ for thinking of it, some free product each release, and a job in R&D or some capacity until you/we sell it off.

  • posted a message on We asked 100 mtg players. Top X answers on the board.
I have been watching a lot of family feud these days and it got me thinking.
Two teams compete for points based on how they answer questions compared to the popular opinion of strangers previously surveyed. Has anyone not seen this gameshow w? It's been on for decades.

Here's my idea for a new forum game.
First we need questions that only mtg players are qualified to answer. Example: We asked 100 players "name a reason you'd keep a hand with only two land in it"
Some people will say "low curve" some others will say "fixes colors" maybe "lots of mana rocks" there is plenty of reasons why you would keep a hand with only two lands.
When we have enough questions, hopefully we can compile answers from 100+ users.
Once we have the question thing rolling we can start surveying and data collecting. This compiled information could then be used to host matches in real life, over chat rooms like cockatrice or mtgo, or maybe over some voice enabled video game console. It could be fun.

I need your help thinking of questions to ask the teams. We need honest impulse answers to the questions. We need 100+ participants.
It sounds like a lot of work but it should be interesting.

Questions could be anything about playing magic that people wouldn't all agree on.
We asked 100 drafters why they'd splash a third color. "bomb rare" "removal" ahh "so many gold cards" Top 4,5,6(whatever) answers to each become what the survey says. Matching the survey awards that many points. Wrong answer is a strike. 3 strikes and the other team gets a chance to steal.
Most points wins. This could be a resource for you to host games at your lgs, or wherever. Maybe offer prizes or something.

I'm interested in thinking of some questions. I'm interested in how my answers would compare to the popular opinion. I'm curious how many family feud style questions the community could come up with.

If this interests you too let me know. Post if you can think of strange things to ask magic players. Or if you'd be willing to take the survey. If you would be willing to play if you saw this advertised as a side event at a tournament let us know.

Feel free to tell me why it's a bad idea or point out whatever it is I'm missing.

  • posted a message on [MCD] Decimate, Hex, cards that are hard to target
Decimate is in all my gruul colored edh decks. I've never played Hex in any edh deck. A few times I have drawn damnation and wished it was Hex just because I didn't want to lose my creatures.

Decimate is awesome. I have had it stuck in my hand before obviously, especially heads up, but the times it goes off it's huge.

Some secret white bordered printings. Battle Royal box set was printed all in white borders so were some others like Deckmasters: Garfield vs. Finkel
inside are some interesting white bordered cards like a Living Death with a golden tempest expansion symbol from Battle Royal box set. Beatdown and
Anthologies are other sources for some strange white bordered cards. Happy hunting

First thing I noticed is that Phyrexian Obliterator is really hard to cast in three colors unless you draw urborg, to make all lands swamps. Perhaps you can consider expedition map to find your urborg

I have pretty good luck with Ensnaring Bridge. I'm using pitching my extra cards to Seismic Assault, Holistic Wisdom, or Borborygmos Enraged but its not for every deck.

  • posted a message on How do you feel about cards that are clearly designed for other formats?
    What are the worst offenders?

I don't think any of these cards are ban worthy. [CARD]Griselbrand
[/CARD] needed to be banned though. I made a deck for him as soon as he was spoiled and I won every time I cast Griselbrand. Even when they had removal.

I think cards like the tutors, fetches and Mirri's Guile or Sensei's Divining Top or Land Tax which we all use or want to use warp the format just as much. Why have 99 card decks if we can run every tutor? Maybe it is just me.

I think the format could have a much shorter ban list then we use currently but I'd also like to see ALL the wishes legal in EDH. Glittering Wish, Death Wish, Burning Wish, Cunning Wish, Living Wish, Golden Wish and the Ring of Maruf. I don't really understand why they fetch nothing in a casual format. It would give every deck more answers.

Offense isn't given its taken. I said that so I could say this...
I am going to put cards into my decks based on my reasons (flavor, power, cost, whatever they are) because I am assuming you're thinking about your card choices too. If I win, I won. If I lose I lost. Hopefully its not because we were underestimating each other. If I was in that game the OP was talking about where the host booted a guy for a turn one Serra Ascendant I'd wonder why the host took such offense to that. I'd be offended I'd say, "Hey man, why would you boot that guy?" You expect to me to show up with a deck that can't handle a single creature?? Depending on the Hosts' response he stands to lose a lot respect as a player, but I'd lose much more respect for him as a person for booting that other player. I'd tell him I'm quitting too. Its not worth playing with fools power tripping like that. I'd start another game. We agree on Magic, we like it, because we choose it. We challenge each other. We work under the same restrictions and an agreed upon set of rules.

  • posted a message on Is it possible to build a decent deck around one of the original Elder Dragons?
I run a Vaevictis Asmadi EDH deck. this elder dragon is the colors of ramp, and extra combat phases.

Sword of Feast and Famine or Nature's will + Aggravated Assault or Hellkite Charger = Infinite combat phases.

Black adds Cabal Coffers + Urborg as well as Nirvana Revenant plus tutors and damnation/decree of pain/other black removal

You have regrowth effects (Eternal Witness, Praetor's Council) reanimater effects, all the haste you want and so much ramp Solemn Simulcrum, Pilgrim Eye, Wood Elves, etc

You get Pernicous Deed, putrefy, abrupt decay, terminate, void, hull breach, dreadbore, and decimate.

You get Lotus Cobra, Birds of Paradise, Kessig

I could go on until your 99 is filled out but you don't need me to tell you what's good.

  • posted a message on What plane are we going to REvisit next?
Honestly. Given enough time I feel we will revisit every plane. We've all noticed glaring plot holes and loose ends in almost every block. So many mechanics with no support. Red herrings and Mcguffin.

Greek set / Egypt set could be the same block given our worlds history
    Viking Set (Valla)
Wedge colors set (Ir if i had to guess what plane that would be)
    Triassic period (murganda)
Steampunk assemble contraption set (is a possibility)

I think we will get to all these places and back to dominaria/kamigawa etc in another 20 years. They won't stop making these sets every year as long as we buy enough to pay the employees profitably.

  • posted a message on Awful Tribes
My best terrible tribe deck is shades. Ihsan's Shade is the commander. I play 20 creatures, they're all pretty mediocre. I play all the best monoblack ramp.Nirkana Revenant is the best shade in this deck. The rest of the deck is interesting equipment I had lying around plus weird tribal cards like Door of Destinies and Cover of Darkness with tutors and removal to fill it out.
Some tribes are better than others.
Bosh, Iron Golem basically made my golem tribal. Yeah it's full of Xanthic Statue, Altar Golem, Phyrexian Colossus, Colossus of Sardia type chaff but it I found several ways of making them work together. What with Unwinding Clock, and Cryptic Gateway type artifacts; golems turned out stronger than I anticipated.
Rats is a good bad tribe.
Insects is one I had a good time building. Xira Arien is a great general for another solid awful-tribe deck.

Awful tribes don't bother me as much as say potential tribal decks without enough support. Like kraken. I want Wrexial, the Risen Deep to enable a kraken tribal edh, but they only made 6 (not including Mistform Ultimas, changelings, and Adaptive Automation/Proteus Machine etc.
Gorgons need more members. As do Minions, Nightmares, Pirates, Ninjas, Trolls, Wurms, Devils, Horrors, Imps, Praetors, Bringers, Leviathans, and a oh so many more. I know, I know, I've got dozens of stacks of almost viable decks lying around. Just waiting...
