Very cool way to give all of the "forgotten" tribes a lord at once... now what tribes need another 3 mana lord?

Thanks, checked it out last night. A little slow, but overall a good concept.

It took them FOREVER to figure out they were zombies... just denial or the serum messed up their brain >_<.

Yes the little known specific sub-genre that I just made up. I have an unhealthy addition to really stupid horror comedy.

Some of what I'm talking about:
    Stan Hellsing
    House of Fears
    Night of the Demons
    The "Scary Movie" series

I'm a particular sucker for the "group of teens get together in a scary place and stuff happens". Yes a guilty pleasure I know. If anyone has any recommendations I'd greatly appreciate them.

Mental Mishap... wow. Don't really play in standard, but this seems ridiculous in Legacy. Will definitely see play.

You answered your own question. "Jace 2.0 started at $25 and then spiked in price." No one wants to make a mistake of setting preorder low only to see the card spike.

There was a guy a while back who went on an all-potatoe diet for a while. Lived (supposedly) on 20 potatoes a day for 60 days.

Sweet potatoes / yams have been cited as a "superfood". Looking at the world's longest living people, you can look at the overlap of diets between completely different cultures and draw conclusions from there. Certainly raw fruits and vegetables have numerous health benefits, and several others have the label of "superfood".
Caloric restriction has correlated with increased longevity in mammals (long-term studies involving humans are ongoing).
If your intent is purely longevity, I would encourage you to check out sens dot org.

Use the [deck*]mycards[/deck*] tags without the *, and put your deck where "mycards" is.

Probably a little early to think about block constructed, and you're non-creature spells are not block constructed legal.

Also, if I were to run mono black infect, I think I would run AT LEAST 3 Skithyrix, as he is a solid finisher that can get the job done by himself after you're smaller infectors eat the opponents removal.

Right now, if I had to build a single set block constructed mono black infect, I think it would look like this.

Significant amount of removal, and lots of "reach" cards in case you're opponent is just killing / chumping your infect creatures. Clasp/Throne/Praetors/Rats can all fling poison at an opponent without attacking. Corpse Cur, Clasp and Deathmantle ensure you always have something to do with any spare mana. Skithyrix can easily finish off an opponent on turn 6.

Of course, I'm sure block constructed decks will change quite a bit. If you were looking for a STANDARD (for FNM) black infect deck, you should probably post in the Standard Forum. Then you would have access to 1-drop discard (Duress, Inquisition) as well as removal like Doom Blade. Good Luck.

  • posted a message on Burn
Just started playing Magic again after a four year hiatus, thought throwing an old burn deck together would be the cheapest way to get back in.

My local meta is VERY aggro/aggro-control oriented. A short list includes:
    Goblins
    Merfolk
    GW Vengvine
    Affinity
    4 Color Aggro Jace Thing
    White Weenie
    Aggro Elves

Theres maybe one Stax and one Combo deck floating around... as such my deck list is geared primarily toward aggro.

Looking at other lists, Searing Blaze seems to be the odd-man out. Coming from an all-aggro meta, and running eight fetches, the card should pretty much alway hit for 6. The other choice that seems to be up for debate is Hellspark Elemental. Burn generally looses in topdeck mode, so I like to have options. He's a second 6 damage card in the deck, and with Searing Blaze he'll get through much more often than he should.

The lack of Price of Progress is because it will pretty much never hit for more than 4 unless my opponent just straight-up fell asleep. Too many people run full-sets of fetches along with basics, making every time I DID draw Price a disappointment.

The sideboard neglects some pretty common choices, again because of the lack of combo/control. Anarchy is in there for an out against Story Circle / CoP:Red, while Pithing Needle serves the additional function of neutering Survival. Smash to Smithereens takes care of Jitte, and coupled with Shattering Spree, turns Affinity into a virtual bye.

The last thing to note is that counters are pretty much non-existent in this meta. Nearly EVERYONE plays some form of aggro. Thats the primary reason for Flamebreak over Volcanic Fallout.

Ideally, with an all-aggro meta shy of counterspells, I'd play Belcher and have a bye against 90% of the meta, but I don't feel like paying up-the-butt for LED and such. Is there anything I'm leaving out, considering the meta I've described?

Its hypocritical to ban one font/color without another that could be considered obscure. Or rather, its an abuse of power to ban one text and not another based on a moderators stance, and disregarding regular posters input.

The point is, this is a competitive MGA thread, people are looking for, and trying to focus on competitive builds, not casual or "fun" builds. There is other places for that I believe. Straying from competitive builds, IMO, dilutes the point and purpose of this thread.

Also, regarding your disdain for "newcomer posters", you have an air of ownership of this thread for some reason, this is a communal effort, not a thread owned by 2 or 3 people.

    QFT

Or, as HKKID would put it:
Thank you. A concise counterargument based on logic. Grin

Black_Lotus is on my new people-who-make-sense list.

This is the official thread on the COMPETATIVE boards... go take your casual stuff somewhere else, it gets in the way of the real talk.

As to your MGH list, Black_Lotus, do you really find that FOUR Krosan Grips are necessary sideboard? I find three just fine, but with the growth of graveyard based decks that are poping up, and will be poping up post-FS, I think the place would better be served with a fourth Tormod's Crypt.

The post-FS list looks good, but I have to question the manland. It essentially CITP tapped, NOT something MGH wants to be seeing. On the plus side, the new "free" spell, in theory, ups the consistency alot.

It's a prime example of "give me a lever large enough and I will move the world".

Given a computer fast enough with enough memory capacity, it will be done, but PROBABLY isn't feasible within our life times.

False. I can have a gun for the THREAT of killing someone, wounding someone, shooting tin cans, ect.

Understand that this is no personal attack on you as a person, BUT...

    This deck sucks.

Now that we've got that out of the way, we can go into WHY it sucks. Your basic idea is sound: Madness + Discard. Now, as pokerbob said, your not going to get very far with B/R madness in the current meta, but lets ignore that for a second. Your clogging up the deck with Shard Phoenix (too expensive for madness) and Terramorphic Expanse (you want mana NOW).

For madness we first need solid discard outlets.
    4 Putrid Imp
    4 Zombie Infestation
4 Drekavac (only works with 8 of your madness cards)
    4 Avatar of Discord

    Then, of course, the madness:
    4 Reckless Wurm (a must have heavy-hitter)
4 Fiery Temper (you need burn to finish them off/ pick away blockers)
4 Strength of Lunacy (soley because its another 1 cost madness)
4 Brain Gorgers (as stated, you need POWER)

Now you need to hit fast and hard so accel and haste are crucial.
4 Anger (yes, you NEED one in your opening hand)
4 Simian Spirit Guide (you hit the nail on the head here, you want fast, if not necessarily efficient, mana)

A manabase skewed toward Mountains for Anger:
    4 Blood Crypt
    4 Bloodstained Mire
    7 Mountains
    5 Swamps

Now, I don't claim to have done any testing with this. But you shouldn't be claiming test results are good without any analysis of matchups, ect. Remember, YOU posted a decklist, its up to YOU to prove its worth.

Is the above decklist the only way to go? Definitely not, but hopefully it will give you a better idea of what the boards are looking for in terms of explaining card choices, ect.

    Peace,
    halcyon
