Long-time lurker here, who's super grateful to all the great advice posted here over the past two years. Any thoughts on the Deflecting Palm card in the new Khans set? It is a RW instant with the ability "The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage. If damage is prevented this way, Deflecting Palm deals that much damage to that source's controller" To my mind seems an excellent sideboard card against Storm, Tron, Boggles, or other decks running big single swingers/spells.
Its neat. But ultimately, to cute. We have better options
If you run 4 probes 19 lands is totally fine. I recently have been running keranos instead of the skull but that may just be because I'm addicted to bolt and card draw. May want to look into a sword of fire and ice instead of the skull as well. Piller of flame or magma spray seems to be the card you are looking for
Hi, all! I played a local "tournie" yesterday afternoon, and did 3-2. Both matches I lost 1-2, but were really close, and my wins were 2-0. I lost to Tron and Pod, which felt very winnable but I kept slow hands, and did some poor mulligan decisions. I won against Goblins, Living End, and WUR midrange.
About Pod, I might side out Courser of Kruphix, since Reclamation Sage really got in the way and slowed me down by killing my coursers on more than one occasion. I was impressed with the flexibility of the shaman, so I'm including one in SB now.
Regarding my thoughts on the deck after yesterday's matchups, I think that I need more 1 mana dorks. BTE isn't doing much for me at the moment, and since I usually side her out anyways, I decided to replace her with 2 Birds of Paradise to ensure I get more t1 ramping. So I got more 2 slots to fill, and I got just the right option: Rattleclaw Mystic. She's actually really good. Since I do need some explosiveness, with her activated and triggered abilities I can reach 6 mana on t3. And, after that, she can still provide additional mana, and decent attack power.
This is the list I'm testing today with some nice results, slowly shifting to a more Beatdown route:
Rattleclaw Mystic is surprisingly good in this deck. Since you can cast her and morph her for colorless mana, I am having no problems at all casting her, no matter what hands I choose to keep (not the same case for BTE). With these MB changes, I can now choose to keep a hand with one forest and Nytkthos or Kessig, and not worry at all. She's got the early explosive shenanigans (althought it's not the same as BTE, it's pretty close) Genesis Wave decks need, and still provides with more additional mana afterwards. I encourage you to test her out, and share your impressions! I think she can have a place in the Genesis Wave variant.
PS: Nylea's Disciple works like a charm against Goblins and Burn. Won me 10 life yesterday.
Have you considered coiling oracle as possible replacement to BTE? Ya you have to run breeding pools and fetches but he ramps or draws you a card. Your list seems a little light on card-draw anyway. 2 birds with one stone.
Also has awesome synergy with courser. Nothing like playing a fetch of the top, grabbing a breeding pool, revealing top card, seeing a nykthos and playing an oracle and putting it directly into play. Or seeing a garruk or primetime or hoof and doing the same thing
To those of you testing Nissa, wolrdwaker maindeck. How is she preforming for you? Is she worth a One of slot? Just pulled one and debating trying her out. Seems alittle "win-moreish".
While courser is an amazing card, 4 may be a little to much. With your low primale command count I would cut one courser for a 4th witness. Would be more helpful to you overall recurring command and wave and polukrios and such
Love love love seeing the thrun daddy in the board. One of my major criticisms of many lists on this board is "needs moar thrun"
dose anyone else find vomitbrigade's interaction between manamorhpose and BTE to be pure genius? free draw and manna smooth. also, a free draw and help us activate kessige when the red land is hiding from us. seems really really good in a wave version of the deck. especially one using BTE, Wistful, and Strangle Root
Because you are running the Coursers have you thought about replacing the skelkies with eidolon of blossoms? Yay, at its worst it eats a bolt and is a skelkie for 1 more manna. But if it sticks, or even better sticks through a wave, you get all the cards
