I managed to complete UltraMagnus's 1st place MTGO Premier list before the GPT Kobe and... I got 1st place (and 2 byes to GP Kobe and 8 packs) for the deck's first tournament!!! WOohoO! >.<

Round 1: 1-2 Soul Sisters (I am ashamed)

Game 1 was an unexpected loss

I thought a game 1 loss is a lower bracket pairing which makes it impossible to take first? Can someone explain this?

It has been long established infect is a glass cannon, it was a glass cannon when it was a tier 1 deck in modern ( little bit of history with blazing shoal, please google it before you comment on it seriously...guys google it...blazing shoal was banned becuase of infect, read before you comment. Google it..)

And now that it is tier 3 " deck creation" under this forums sticky post for what defines tier 2 is not met. But that is a technicality. Is even more so.

Manaless dredge is more reliable for god sakes.

But i digress, there are so many games I see where uwr remands mutagenic growth....or they do weird stuff like try to burn deck race infect...when a control player knows how to take down infect it's easy.

I don't discount your friends efforts, but he is doing something very wrong if he can't beat a tier 3 fringe budget deck with a protour level control deck. That doesn't even run fetchlands. Does he not know then to lightning helix, how tap down the creatures that you're swinging with as a result of pump spells being played? Is he not playing path to exile, i think it is best to examine what your friend is doing wrong rather than what you're doing right. What is he boarding in? Let's examine his play not yours.

There are 3 serious control players at my store, who do participate in the pro tour qualifiers ( across state lines) that I put up zero resistance against most of the time. Inkmoth nexus is the only pest for control but path to exile turns it into a bad version of evolving wilds.

I have been placing first place locally when the control and twin players fail to show up. However, any serious deck is a tough match up for infect. I take the posts about how America control is junk and easy for infect, with a grain of salt. The deck is largely considered a great deck to play so you see where these doubts emerge. Especially if it is an mtgo event

Well, maybe he just got lucky and always had it all..
Can you tell me your sideboard for this matchup?

Well if you're playing America control and the guy has zero fetch lands, is playing against infect and electrolytes or bolts YOU then you know you're in a favorable matchup becuase it's like racing a 13 year old girl who is burning the clutch and grinding gears.

Uwr control is a bad matchup, vendillion, snap asters, bolts, Helix, cryptic command and mana leak are all a thorn.

If they don't board out remand, or sphinx then they don't know what they're doing.
And there are a lot of bad America control players on mtgo. I've played them before. Running the theros god and running less than optimal colonnades, in a PTQ nobody is going to helix you for 3 when you have 5 mana and 5 cards in hand playing infect unless it's for lethal

American control in the hands of someone at a PTQ is a different animal than online sallies. Many online only players compare online dailies to Grand Prix or pro tour level play but it is closer to noviepce level Friday night magic level play. I'd you don't belive me take a look at pros taking theory decks through daily events.

One video I saw a guy playing a mox opal-less affinity list, another time I saw an America control deck not running cryptic command, and ran a lightning strike in place of a lightning bolt.

And even at small store levels. Paper is generally more competitive becuase people run their spare full power tournament decks at them. Not really the case with mtgo especially with the v4 nonsense

so you want people to critique on a decklist that you built for your local competitive meta? how is anyone going to make a suggestion without knowing how the grand prix decks play in your region?

not to mention, you're most likely going to shoot down any suggestions immediately.
why not just post your list, delete the entire blurb about your life story, what you and your girlfriend like to do on weekends, and tell us how you did at the grand prix in great detail? AFTER you get back.

when you head to the grand prix, take notes on what you play and share it here!
just grab a sign in blood brand notepad and write down the deck archetype where you kept your life total and then come on here and post memorable plays and such

Well, I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers, I just didn't know if this was a list worthwhile of taking to GP. I've done the testing and whatnot against the top tier decks, and it seems to perform well enough, I'm just really new to the game still, so I wanted input. I'm not going to shoot anyone's suggestions down; I haven't even been playing the game for a year yet. I'll just keep my mouth shut until I go, then.

I figured this was an okay community to pitch some ideas to. Sorry I'm not an old-timer elitist, I just want to talk about some Magic.

well im not trying to be mean, i can tell from the attitude you're not really open to suggestions

like if someone told you that generally it's not a good idea to run so many 1-ofs and half answers to everything

your go to answer isn't going to be "sure! thanks!"
it's going to be i play-tested this for 3 weeks against proxies!!!! I KNOW MY DECK!!!!
i mean why waste the time, in that case your deck looks great. GOOD LUCK. why knows maybe the secret to getting an infect list to day 2 on the grand prix is to run a singlton version of the meta-deck. who knows, maybe your meta is 100% G/R Tron infects best matchup and you go 8-0 on day 1 and are in contention for first who knows

So guys, I was reading the sticky at the top of this forum on what makes a tier 2 deck.
And infect is considered tier 2 strictly because of the appearance on magic online. But upon closer inspection infect no longer meets the posted requirements on the sub-forum.

It needed 12 or more 4-0 finishes or 3-1 finishes in a given 6 month period in dailys.
According to mtg goldfish infect has not met these requirements this year.

It does not meet any other requirement ( like the top 8 at pro tour or 1.5% meta of day 2 Grand Prix in a given period)

So is this now a tier 3 deck?
Not asking if it's a tier 3 deck in your opinion, or your opinion on how well it does at your local game store.
Asking if it should be re- classified under deck creation rather than "established" under this websites strict standards for deck classification.

I play tested this deck for no reason on cockatrice, and eidolon is one of those cards you don't realize you need until you do..I sided him out game 2 and I immediately missed him, and thought to myself damn what did burn players ever do without him?

He is truly the goblin electromancer of storm for the burn deck. It just makes the deck.

haha i run the zendikar forests too, the verionique, all of the match which really irratates me when they don't haha.

    aura hexproof is boggles.
i am 0-4 with it too they're faster than infect, that and they have accsess to path to exile, and a number of other removal.

i am also 0-4 with American control with a certain player, and 6-0 with another player. i think a deck like that really needs a proficient pilot, extensive knowlege of the metgame, and a flawless play style. i don't stand a chance.

but if they make mistakes, like not mana leaking a glistener elf, or tec edge an inkmoth when they can then the matchup is easy. also alot of people want to run america control without the fetchlands, cryptic commands or the snapcaster mages. some even do it at SCG IQ level, grave mistake

keep in mind Mark Rosewater's position is to basically b a hype man in interviews like this.
I wouldn't get too excited, he is just marketing some card board.

high prices on certain cards make people want to play the game, they're not going to jeopardize the game's future just because some people keep "speculating" that fetchlands and full art lands will be printed in m15, conspiracy, khans, modern masters 2 etc

not for splinter twin, but if you know for a fact they're bringing in spellskite bring it in.
all 4 nture's clim, 2 dismember and 2 pithing needle in some matchups.

4 cathedral of war is too many.

blue green is the ultimate goal, play test 4 misty rainforest, 4 catacombs and 4 breeding pool, then report back with how inefficient U/G infect is. and since you said you were a legacy player, check out the same mana base but with ABU duals...mono-green is less efficient than that because...money.

    4 necropede is meh

giant growth is meh in this deck it's too conditional the only reason you run it is for a lightning helix or lightning bolt kind of weak.

giant growth is a substitution for a fetchland. the original play was if they bolt you're dude with mana open (fetchlands are deceptive) you bolt yourself fetching a breeding pool untapped (pay 1 life, sac misty, pay 2 life untapped) and then you play your groundswell (triggering landfall with the fetch) in response.

the newer players here assume they will bolt on your turn because people always bolt on your turn or play removal on your turn [in standard], so they assume you can sneak in 3 extra damage and live through the ordeal. With savvy players, or players who know how to play control really well, its just doesn't work like that.

when playing infect, people know never to pick a fight with a glistener elf on a deck that wants to play counters on its own turn

don't buy decks based on your win rate on cockatrice. people that play there are just messing around half the time, or are just kids playing fantasy decks they can't pilot. i was at a 75% win rate with a jank burn deck just messing around on that, so many iffy players trying to work affinity sacing everything they have before a hit lands and bolt their inkmoth away preior to the counters landing. or just bad plays in general
