If this card was meant for draft they could have just reprinted the old one. Draft is not a reason to make this.

As for edh I guess that is a valid point. Except I really don't see edh decks needing this card either. So many other spiders do virtually the same thing anyway.

Magic origins spoilers are coming out. One of the "new" cards is Hitchclaw recluse. Its a 2G 1/4 spider with reach and its a common. This is the perfect example of a card that I hate.

    1. This exact card already exists. It is exactly the same as Rib Cage Spider so they could have reprinted it. Worth noting that despite all the power creep this card is exactly the same as a card that came out in Prophecy which was 15 years ago.

    2. A better version of this exact card already exists. Sporecap Spider is the same mana cost, same rarity and is just better.

Why do they do things like this? There is no absolutely no use for this "new" card.

  • posted a message on My house rules: eliminating mana screw with the special draw.
Missing land drops is part of the balance of the game. If you remove that possibility then low mana cost stuff becomes much worse and high mana cos stuff becomes much better.

A 5 mana cost creature is balanced around the fact that you will likely miss a land drop along the way. You either need mana accel, card advantage, or luck to play it on turn 5.

A 2 mana cost creature is balanced around the fact that you won't have difficulty casting it. Its safer to run more of these.

Your rule fundamentally alters how magic would be played.

chorus of might seems really bad to me. Its allot of mana and its only good when you have lots of wolves. IF you have lots of wolves you are already winning the game and therefore don't need it.

This deck makes allot of tokens. I would consider running parallel lives I would also consider sundering growth

I don't think predator's howl is modern legal.

I suspect a mod will move this thread to the casual forums fyi

  • posted a message on Are they still printing Modern Masters 2015
I'm thinking of picking up some of the cards that were reprinted in modern masters 2015. My question is how long will they print it? Is it already over or will stores get more copies? I don't want to buy the cards just to watch them drop in price afterwords.

    Thanks

  • posted a message on A basic dragon deck
Dragon decks need to be fast. They might seem like flying death lizards but if the game goes long enough they actually lose to quite a few other creature types, not to mention control decks. I recommend keeping the deck mono red. It makes the deck cheaper, plus most of the good dragons are mono red anyway. To that end you need things to help you play them sooner. Things like

dragonspeaker shaman This uncommon will likely cost you around $5 each. Still making a 6mana cost dragon cost only 4 is absolutely worth it.
dragonlord's servant dragonspeaker shaman's little brother. They work great together. 75cents each
seething song dragon in play sooner or just makes fire-breath bigger. 75cents each
geosurge you get the idea. 33cents each
dragon tempest the haste is the main use. The other ability is just a bonus. $1 each.

After that you really just run the dragons. Which dragons you run really depends on your budget.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not really getting how this all comes together. So this might be a stupid suggestion but wouldn't myr retriever be good in this deck?

    red slivers are bad.

I disagree with your "red slivers are bad" statement. Striking Sliver is better then sidewinder sliver. So if red is in the deck anyway then it should run it instead. Magma Sliver can be very powerful, especially with Sentinel sliver though I admit at around $5 each its out of this deck's budget. Also, in a budget deck where Queen, Legion, Overlord and hivelord are all too expensive I find thorncaster Sliver fully playable. Especially in combination with venom sliver

My advice is to focus your spending on the boring stuff. Dragon decks need to be fast, they might seem like flying death lizards but if the game goes long enough they actually lose to quite a few other creature types, not to mention control decks. Your friend can and i'm sure will invest their own money over time getting better dragons, your gift can focus on the core that gets the dragons to work. I would also recommend keeping the deck mono red. Despite the new multi color dragons the best ones are still mono red imo. Plus, it will save lots of money since you can run just mountains.

4x dragonspeaker shaman This uncommon will likely cost you around $5 each. Still making a 6mana cost dragon cost only 4 is absolutely worth it.
4x dragonlord's servant dragonspeaker shaman's little brother. They work great together. 75cents each
4x seething song dragon in play sooner or just makes fire-breath bigger. 75cents each
4x geosurge you get the idea. 33cents each
3x dragon tempest the haste is the main use. The other ability is just a bonus. $1 each.

Now your at around $30 and don't even have any dragons yet. For the dragons themselves you aren't going to be getting the good ones. You can't afford them. He can replace these with expensive ones overtime if he wants. Example: I really like Balefire Dragon but at around $6 each there goes the rest of the $60 budget let alone the $40 one. Plus, Dragonmaster Outcast is $15 each or Stormbreath dragon who is also $15. So here is a list of CHEEP dragons. Dragons that aren't the best but at the same time are good enough to be worth playing in a budget deck

flameblast dragon ok ability, and budget friendly. 33cents each
forgestoker dragon same as above. 20cents each
moonveil dragon kinda makes shivan dragon look stupid. $2 each
    shivan dragon 33cents each
    mordant dragon 33cents each
    ancient hellkite 25cents each
    furyborn hellkite $2
    kilnmouth dragon $1
    thunder dragon $1
    shivan hellkite 33cents

My pricing is using tcg player and splitting the difference between their low and mid prices. If you were wondering where the numbers were coming from.

Feel free to post decks here, kinda the point of the forums.

Around how much money is the total budget? A deck with lots of $4 cards can easily be more expensive then a deck with a few $10 cards.

Building a sliver deck under $20 is not easy. Slivers decks tend to be very expensive. One Sliver Queen is double your entire budget. Mana base for these decks also tends to be expensive. You say you have lands covered though. I guess I would go something like this.

IDK what you are using for price, but tcg player low for that is $15.87 giving you a little over $4 for lands. Of course tcg player mid is $34.30 which is way over your budget not even including lands.

  • posted a message on Casual Devotion to Red deck
Looking at if from the outside i'm not convinced that you have enough devotion to red for it to really be a factor. Of your 60 card deck only 20 cards give any devotion at all. 4 of those cards are legendary so once you draw one the other three cannot be played. Also, of the 20 cards 12 of them only give 1 devotion.

Your deck is trying to do 3 different things.

    1. Burning your opponent whenever a creature enter the battlefield under your control
    2. Burning your opponent whenever some of your creatures die
    3. Burning your opponent do to your devotion

I have an entire deck that focuses on the first thing. I have a entirely different deck that focuses on the second thing. The third thing doesn't seem particularly compatible with the first 2 to me. My advice would be to pick one or two of the 3 themes and just stick with those.

For theme 1 you could run
    siege-gang commander
    krenko's command
    mogg war marshal
    rise of the hobgoblins
If you wanted to combine 1 and 3 then pick things that give devotion and tokens, not just one or the other.

    For theme 2
    mogg maniac
    stuffy doll
maybe add green for (but only if you drop the devotion plan)
    hornet nest
    broodhatch nantuko
    saber ants

For theme 3 just stuff with allot of devotion.

I feel like you can combine 2 of these themes, but trying all 3 in one deck just doesn't seem to work to me.

Finally, there is nothing wrong with running the gods with no intention of having them ever become creatures. Purphoros is great for his abilities not for the 6/5 creature.

I'm a little surprised you aren't running geralf's messenger. It gives good devotion. It has ok power (though it does come into play tapped). It has synergy with sidisi, undead vizier. It also can punish people who attack you. You swing on me? Fine, I block, you lose life and my guy comes back stronger. It also has some synergy with thrull parasite since thrull can remove its +1/+1 counter so it can keep coming back.
