I'm usually not on here that much but I check in from time to time. Recently I've been trying out a new leaner build of Junk - kind of like the one SiegeDino is running - and I though I'd share the list with you guys. Maybe you have some good input or maybe someone will be inspired to try it.
Yeah, totaly. I see what you mean. I think Lavamancer could be of some help there.
This is probably how I would build it. Now I did use Wall of Omen simply because it's an early drop that can block. Also cut down on Arena cause of Wall and also to make room for a Painful Thruths so you can hit a card draw spell with Dark-Dwellers.
Also, Obzedat works great with Nahiri. Of course it's no Emrakul but it seems like the deck could use another wincon just in case.
Hey! Looks like a fun list. Super slow though. I'd would definitely always run 4 Bolt. Always. Not a second thought.
Kind of think five 4-mana walkers and two *** seems excessive. I'd would probably cut Ajani all together and put the ***s in the board to make room for the 4th bolt and a couple of Helix. I feel that with such a reactive list you gotta give yourself a chance to react which is hard if your hand I clogged up with 3- and 4-drops.
I'm thinking that Bloodghast goes very well with Faithless Looting.
I'm also thinking that Young Pyromancer goes very well with Monastery Mentor.
Beyond that I get that Tasigur is cheaper that Gurmag Angler but if you're only running one Taz I don't really see you getting to play it on turn 2 in any kind of reliable way, so I'd just run Angler instead.. or none of them. I'd be too bummed out to nog be able to activate Taz to enjoy playing with him. OCD much?!
I think that Fiend Hunter could pair nicely with Wasteland Strangler. It does kind of the same thing as Strangler while also feeding the other Stranglers at the same time. Maybe try a 2/2 split?
Hey guys. I don't write here a lot but I check in from time to time. I was wondering if there is some kind of agreed upon best version of this deck, or as least a given core in this archetype. It's seems like this is the best color combination that I can play without goyfs and I really like playing something that's a bit off the radar.
I haven't hade the chance to playtest in a long while so I'm only brewing in theory for now. This is what I've got with so far. Any thoughts?
I have very high hopes for Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet but I havn't had the chance to play him yet. Seems great though, except for that our main removal is an exile-spell. But with a bit of black removal in the deck aswell it could be a beast.
I have a few thing to say about the deck. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, just some stuff I would be hesitant about if I were playing this deck.
First off, 4 Fetid Heath seems a bit risky as you also have four other lands that doesn't produce colored mana. Since you are running four tapped land as well, you only have eight sources of each color from which you can cast a turn one spell. I would definitly swap two Fetid Heath for two Isolated Chapel. I also think it might be a good idea to play at least one Temple of Silence since you're a bit low on one-drops. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth could also be a great card cause it makes your Ghost Quarters tap for black. I would probably remove two Plains for those two card. Lastly, if you have any good G/B lands, it could be a good idea to replace one or two swamps whith that land to help you cast Kitchen Finks.
Regarding the spells I think it's a bit greedy to play 4 Liliana of the Veil and 4 Kitchen Finks whith that mana base, but the G/B land idea would of course help there. Beyond that I would be hesitant to play Abyssal Persecutor without any sac outlet. Maybe swap one Liliana of the Veil and one Kitchen Finks for two Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. That card seems awesome with Abyssal Persecutor. Finally I'd replace the Utter Ends for Dismember, Go for the Throat or even Smother. Utter End is too expensive in my opinion. It's gonna hurt flipping it to Dark Confidant and you might not even get to play it cause it can't be played until turn 4. Since you will be sacrificing your own lands you could easily be stuck on two or three land for a while. Also, you have to remember that Path to Exile is awful to play early if you don't have an Leonin Arbiter in play. It's much better later on. That's why I'd recommend playing the black 2-drop removal spells over Utter End.
I agree that Adaptive Automaton doesn't look like the right call, at least for my build. I think it would work amazingly IF it could pump BOTH Rat and Spirit tokens. But you have to choose one. And it dies to loads of different removal spells. And, as mentioned, my 3-drop slot is already full (at 8 cards.)
I am trying Leyline of the Void as my sideboard graveyard hate as a 3-of. I boarded it in for one match so far against a Grixis Twin build and despite having to hard cast it on T5 it definitely factored into the game, and it still gave my Grunt some breathing room for a few turns. I will report when I have more play experience.
Yeah, Adaptive Automaton is probably not at all the right choice. I'm just happy to see some out-of-the-box thinking. Feel like this deck is in a bit of rut.

I'm pondering a couple of changes. For example another Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet in the sideboard instead of Ajani Vengeant or Olivia Voldaren. Maybe switching the Terminate in the board for a Dreadbore. I'd also like to try out Soulfire Grand Master.
I'm also thinking that Young Pyromancer goes very well with Monastery Mentor.

Oh, that's an interesting idea! Let's get the gears grinding!
