@darktutor I really like the list you posted! Was a long time dead guy ale player and always loved the control/denial aspects of D&T. Have you had any more success with this build? Be been lurking on the D&T thread, but it seems to be all over the place..
The lands are a mess right now I haven't done enough testing to get a feel for the right distribution. I'm only splashing red because I feel like the deck's biggest weakness is life gain and the right removal. terminate helps get rid of cards like victim of night/dismember, that can't hit everything. lightning helix is still removal with added life gain that can also be thrown at the opponents face. splashing red also opens up our sideboard for Kolaghan's command and crumble to dust against tron which feels like our worst match up. I think pack rat, in our attrition based strategy, is our best wincon. I used to run mutavault, but it wasn't always necessary to get the rat train rolling... I also kinda agree with siriusB that though i did like the percy wargear combo, it wasnt always reliable to get the pieces together. would love to hear any feedback you guys have with a small splash for red
If we can fit lingering souls in the deck it could be an advantage. if we hit 1 or 2 with satyr way finder triggers, dump them in the graveyard, next turn get 2 flyers for 2. but with coco we get nothing out of it, which might be why doomed traveler could be more beneficial
I also agree that Melira main deck overall might be better than anafenza just because infect is such a pain against this deck... Also shuts down ink moth nexus... Are satyr wayfinder essential to the deck? Seems like it can both help us and hurt the combo plan. Maybe doomed traveler to fill way finder spot?
@alphagprime..so if you didn't have a budget restriction, what would a true b/w combo build look like? I think messenger would be a great addition.but beyond that what would the main deck consist of?
Awesome, thanks for the break down! I really loved modern dead guy ale with pack rat but overall this seems like a stronger build than merely b/w. Tons of cheap removal, life gain, card advantage, hand disruption..Maybe one day we could get a tarmagoyf bomb, but until then brimaz is the closest thing..Curious to see what the red/white manland will be...
Is there anyway we could get small break down of T1 and T2 decks? I need a new deck and this is my top 3 to build next. After online testing I really do think jack snows deck is the best version as of now... how does this do with combo decks? what are the hardest decks that we face game 1?
This deck doesn't seem to depend on the opponents creatures dying. The combo is based off the deaths of our own creatures. Besides the only removal you would MD is path to exile...
I'm starting to get a feel for the abzan build over the orzhov. I like the fact that combo is the main win con but if for some reason we just need a beat down voice of resurgence works wonders...
How are the matches against combo decks like twin/tron or aggro decks like burn/infect?
Sorry I was in a hurry when i wrote that. I didn't sideboard for any of those matches and neither did my opponents. Just mainboard testing...
Regarding the deck..
22 lands were never too big of a problem, but i may add another in place of the 2nd kolaghan's command and move 1 to sideboard. But I think running 3 liliana of the veil with 4x lingering souls just seems right. SFGM so far has been ok. I find myself losing a good bit of life just off of lands so every life link helps. As far as what would go in that spot im not sure.. there aren't too many 2 drop bombs. I love tidehollow but not sure if its what we need.. I havent seen much of gideon, ally of zendikar so I cant really say if he is as good as Jack Snow says. Elspeth seems like it *should* be here. It makes SFGM a powerhouse, but im reserving judgement
for the most part its identical to Jack snow's but adding the kolighans command main has been super helpful against tron and aether vial type decks. Since this deck doesn't have a ton of creatures it has been nice to draw out a bolt on a dark confidant only to bring it back next turn.
played this version against a couple decks.
infect 3-1
made a bad misplay in the 1st game. i lost by not killing hisglistener elf on my turn. Lili shined here with the cheap removal and hand disruption
naya burn 2-0
no sideboard but managed to sneak by in both games. shambling vents helped me stabilize late game with lili constantly discarding his draws
slivers 2-0
again no sideboard, but kolaghan's command was an allstar in this game 2 for 1'ing artifact destruction and pinging slivers. Couldnt handle all the removal, then got Olivia online, and burning down all his creatures got her up to an 8/8.
I reeeeaally loved my dead guy ale deck, but adding red gives us such a huge advantage especially lifegain.
I haven't tested it yet but 3 Gideon's and 3 Lilliana's seem like a little much. Why not 2 Gideon and 2 lili, and make room for 2 more creatures or the 4th lingering souls?
@jacksnow after playing your deck list online a number of times I've grown quite fond of it. For the most part I play the modern version of dead guy ale, but it's always a little lacking. The life gain and extra cheap removal is huge.... Still need more time with it
