posted a message on Pre-release Pool + Deck - What Would You Change?
Thanks for the comments everyone. The conversation here reflects what my thought process while playing the pre-release. I started with a WU deck, very close to magicmerl's. The flyers seemed good in theory, but so many of the spells were tempo-based, and the deck was way too slow to capitalize on them. There also wasn't anything exciting to ramp to, so the scions were less useful than they would ordinarily be.

I played that in the first two matches, and it just felt like the early game was too slow, and the late game had no way to pull ahead or fight back against large threats. After that, I changed to the WB deck. The synergy and actual removal made a huge difference. It all just worked together much better, and I was able to process with the Strangler more times than I thought (probably through sheer luck, given I only had two ingesters).

I clearly should have been running Slab Hammer. I had not considered how strong it would be with the spell lands I pulled, and after hitting 5 lands, the deck doesn't really need more mana.

posted a message on returning fixed mechanic
Of the other two mechanics, one is a repeated mechanic brought back that strongly hits the flavor of Greek mythology.

I think this is level up, and that it is the mechanic for the heroes. Perfectly captures increasing in proficiency over the course of an epic quest.

The second returning mechanic is a mechanic that the developers thought had potential but didn’t live up to it first time out - it has been mechanically retweaked and given a new name and flavor. This last mechanic is also tied to the gods

Could be licids... They did say thy found a way for enchantments to bring the gods to life. Not really confident about this though. Also, Maro has talked a lot on his blog lately about flanking, which fits here but would be underwhelming as mechanical identity for gods.

The set does something that's never done before except on another Future Sight card.
I this is Enchantment Creatures. Lucent Liminid is the only one, and they didn't say it's a mechanic, but rather something that's only been done in Future Sight.

posted a message on Any chance of Doubling Season reprint?
Mark Rosewater has said explicitly that they will not reprint Doubling Season because of its interaction with planeswalkers. Not in a an actual set, anyway.
