Why doesn't the poll include Izzet Guildmage?

    ... or like.... any others?

Sure, they may suck for you, but they all do something (well, except the Orzhov one. He's lame. Does nothing that his comrades cannot do)

And then, how can you even run this poll without knowing the Rakdos one?

EDIT: And why does TitaniumDragon above me not see the following play:

1: Activate Selesnya Guildmage's token ability for 3G
2: Counter that with Azorious for 2U
    1: Mana advantage?
    2: . . . Keep playing, earthy.

And not only that, but right up until the time Selesnya master can activate the ability, try this on his elves:

1: Upkeep, I tap down your Elf with Azorious Guildmage.
2: You just spent 3 mana to deny me one.
1: Yeah, but, I saw your hand last turn and I snuck a peek at the cards off the top of your library with [effect] too, so... y'know
    2: Frown

Clearly, the first image is *an* Azorious land, but which one?
It cannot be the dual, since the dual is supposed to be non-plane specific for possible futre releases.
So it is either the guildhall or the Karoo.
Now, let's consider: We have a description of "Prahv, the Spires" in the fiction about the Hussar on the site. Does this pic match that definition?

I don't think so. It just looks like another terra forma, with elements of island (the water and floating things) and the plains (structural, straight, simple towers). Thus, I say it is the Karoo.

The second image was accompanying the mention of the "Haymaker" that the Doppelganger through at the Vedalken Hussar. It is likely a Black if not Black-Red effect which affects creature's negatively. I would not so quickly conclude it is removal. It looks like there is an element of pain involved, like you want some sort of fear to be inspired.

Yes, the next picture is obviously some sort of Phalanx. It seems that the Azorious likes groups of four among its lower ranks.
I would suspect a large toughness, Vigilance, an additional defensive ability, and maybe Defender.

And the last one cannot even be seen.

    What is in that picture?

After that silly fake of the Simic Guildmage the other day, someone who knew what the real card did felt compelled to contact me and fill me in on an approximation of what it does.

The basic abilities are below. Activation costs are right, general ability is right, what I guessed on was the 'you control' stuff, which would significantly alter the power of this somewhat narrow guildmage.

    Simic Guildmage :symug::symug:
    Creature - Elf Wizard
:1mana::symg:: Move a +1/+1 counter from target creature you control to another target creature you control.
:1mana::symu:: Attach an aura enchanting target creature you control to another target creature you control.
    2/2

(The ability of the guildmage may or may not have the 'you control' clause. I wouldn't be surprised either way.)

That "attach" would have been "move".

Precedents: Aura Graft and Autumn-Tail, Kitsune Sage.

What, exactly, did this guy tell you?

I'd be really happy about that enchantment ability, but.... wouldn't it be odd that there is already a Green guildmage that deals with +1/+1 counters?

Wow, gayness. me and my friend built a deck and filled it with psionic gift's and draw cards spells. "Oh sweet there IS a win condition to this deck! *Plays ****ton of draw spells and decks* CRAP!" but I guess that doesnt work, but locking them out of draw is good too haha.

I really can't tell what you meant by this, but I think you interpreted my earlier statement incorrectly.

Shared Fate replaces draw, but you still get cards.

Those cards are removed from the game off the top of an opponent's library.
You aren't "locked out of a draw". Though technically, yes, you will not draw cards anymore, this does not mean you have a resource lock - you are still gaining a new card each time you are told to draw.

Wouldn't it make more sense as "Azorius Ascendance?"

    That's what I would think.

Dimir Intrigues refers to what the DImir guild does.
Golgari Deathcreep is an aspect of the guild's modus operandi
Charge of the Boros is a noun directly referring to an aspect of the guild in action
Selesnya United is a catch-phrase which people think is a sentence (which would actually mean "They had united"), but really is just the noun, Selesnya, qualified by the adjective, united.
Izzet Gizmometry is a noun which is supposedly a facet of the guild but as we see in the deck and the guild there is no "Gizmometerizing"... so it's lame.
I don't even remember the name of the Gruul one. I burn Red and Green cards I see, to destroy the evidence.... :maniac:

The Orzhov one is called .... gosh, I don't think I've ever looked at the precons recently...

Simic Mutology is probably like Izzet Gizmometry - just a fun word.

Bloodsport could be the one word (made-up) that describes everything the Rakdos do. They practice bloodsport, and they are bloodsports.

Ascendant.. though... could only describe one person. Likely an Azorious guildmember.

But that would be too singular.

The only time a card ever changed names was either when one object (permanent or spell or... well anything else which exists in the game) copies another, or when you had the card __________ from Unhinged.
EDIT: For some reaosn, that links to Storm Herd. I don't know why. Ignore it. I'm referring to the card with no name from Unhinged.... you know... that has the ability in its flavour text...

When an effect states a word which is a subtype without any other qualifiers, assume it refers to the subtype.

In this case, Mountain, though the name of a card, is also a subtype of lands. Thus, it is making the affected permanents (nonbasic lands) have the land subtype Mountain.

Which has rules baggage as explained above.

No. Shared Fate (card tags) sets up a replacement effect which replaces the game action of "Draw a card" with a new action of "remove the top card of an opponent's library from the game...".

So, in this case nothing would happen and he would lose (the next time he drew a card) if shared fate left play.

And the reason *why* this circumstance doesn't cause you to lose the game is because the "Decking rule" is actually very specific:

If, at any time, a player is required to draw more cards than there are in his or her library, instead that player draws the remaining cards, and that players loses the game the next time any player would see priority (this is a state-based effect)

The term "draw" is very specific, referring only to the draw on your draw step, and effects that say "Draw N cards"

Shared Fate replaces drawing a card with the remove-from-game dealy, but the key is no draw is happening.

If no draw is happening, the above condition ("required to draw [other details that become unimportant because no one is drawing cards anymore]") is never satisfied, thus, no one will ever lose to the "Decking rule"

Note, it is only casually referred to by that name, unlike the "Legend Rule", which actually names itself in that part of the comp rules.

I think the key here is that in now way could itever be relevant for which reason the redirection doesn't happen.

It doesn't happen, it doesn't try to happen.

The effect is the same, and there is (unlike other cases where if you nudge it enough you can make it matter) no case where you really need to know why the redirection doesn't happen.

We can agree that the damage cannot be redirected to or from a creature that doesn't exist. We cannot deal the damage to a phantom of a creature, and according to the comp rules and the oracle wording, we cannot have the phantom of the creature deal damage.

Razia only affects the two targets, and both targets must be around consistently from targeting to resolution to damage. If not, there is no creature to speak of, and thus, no redirection to employ.

    Case closed.

If your opponent asks "What is that card?", your answer cannot misrepresent the game state. (i.e. Saying "Just look at the card" could be misconstrued that you are incinuating that it is a Plains) It's in the best interest to either reply saying it's a Forest, or remind your opponent that he has the right to ask a judge what the Oracle wording of the card is.

Yes, but I think the rules were forumated formulated so that a player can inconspicuously cast a glance across the table and not let on what information he is interested in.

I always play with the cards in my hand distinct and separate so they can be counted from behind and sometimes I remember to ask my opponent to do the same. Maybe this isn't a rule, and call me stupid, but I just think that's how it should be so I do it.

I think in this case, what is certainly going on is, if not intentionally misrepresenting the game state, *knowingly* taking inappropriate actions which might cause the game state to be misrepresented.

Honestly, if the guy wants cool forests, he can put them in his Force of Nature deck. A tourny should have no place for "stylish misprints". Tell him that.

@rowsdowser, i like that nephilim idea, similar to the other nephilims it makes u want to play monocolor Wink

    That was awesome.

If you show me how to do various emoticons of praise, I'll edit this post to include one.

Oh and... yeah, I suppose my addition of "Instant" was a little hasty...

Still though.... could that card be printed at all? It would be ownage removal for sets to come.. we're not going to have multicolour forever....

I hope the idea of my opponats ditching his cards becomes popular...give me the opportunity to teach people a leson in tempo when I bust out my whitefish deck. I dont think it will catch n with "Pros" but I think alot of players will try and see what they can do withthe Hellbent Mechanic. Imsure there will be Rakdo Deck wins...btu I dont think they will be trying to discard thier hands with terroble instants.

    -T-

If what you're trying to do is discard your hand, then One With Nothing is not a terrible instant.

The fact of the matter is that it is the only card in recent and available print that allows you to set hand size = 0 *at instant speed* for only 1 mana and without warning your opponent that you can.

I want you to imagine this play:

"I Attack with everything" (pretty threatening board, but opponent seems like he can handle it. It is threatening though, since you have Rakdos Anthem out, but you've only got a BLood Crypt untapped, so you can't empty your hand of 4)
<opponent blocks, leaving some guys through because he thinks he's got a plan>
    You assign damage.
You play One With Nothing, setting up Rakdos Anthem to smack your opponent for 10 instead of 5. gg?

And OWN actually puts the cards in your graveyard, so not all is lost. For Black, and less with a little help.

EDIT: plus, there's always the Mindslaver+Isochron Scepter+Donate combo of ultimate embarrassment:
<Dude... you just played One With Nothing....>

    :shame:

    Destroy target monocoloured creature.

    In order to promote multicolour.

If Hero's Demise existed in a set which used such important legendary creatures, and even now exists in a format alongside LEyline of Singularity, and STILL isn't used, I think we could upgrade your card to instant:

    Spectrify 1B
    Instant
    Destroy target monocoloured creature.

Given the name and the whole "I'm going to kick your ass" mood of the air-creature with a sword, I would suspect it is a White creature for sure.

Probably with the theme like Sunweb, you know, big flying creature that's just a butt that can't go aggro....

BUT, it probably had Blue tacked on, because that's what they do in multicolourd sets: They damage the good name of every colour.

    What the hell!?!!?!?!?!?

    How can that be Graft?!??!

It.... no.... it destroys all my expectations...

Surely that contradicts what we learned of its "evolution" theme, that it allows it to evolve once during the game!

    No... I can't believe it....

It's just +1/+1 counters. Just +1/+1 counters! No... that's not right...

How could that be MonoBlue? What does Blue interest itself with +1/+1 counters? No..

    Dammit.... this is horrible...
