Actually, the art's the only thing I like about it. It shows that cards don't need to match the colors they are, in the art they have(blue skin, clothes, whatever). Hopefully they'll make more cards in this manner.

    QFT.

I for one am really tired of the art matching the color of the spell so exactly. Really, if the mana symbol at the top is a skull I know it's a black spell. I don't need the art to help me.

I like the sphinx, but I was hoping the sphinx would be GU and have the 2GU casting cost in the orb. Oh well. This is cool. I love me some sphinxes.

Edit: I immediately thought of spinal villain when I saw that one picture.

Paul Cheon won a Standard PE last night with a very strange Firemane Control List; he played the martyr/proclamation combo and Searing Meditation. The blue was only for card draw. He 3-0 (6-0)'d the top eight without dropping a game. the only match he lost to in the Swiss was to Headache Combo, which is generally a difficult matchup for control to overcome without hate.

This deck absolutely destroys aggro strategies. It's worst matchup is MartyrTron from what I've seen, with Storm combos right behind. It beats most other control decks because they don't have enough reach to race your martyr lifegain and resolving multiple meditations is usually game-defining.

Can you post a decklist? I'm dying to see a competitive deck use Searing Meditation.

I like comboing her with Wildfire Emissary or another fire-breather.

If all else fails, you can dump her mana on a storage land.

You can use her mana to help flip over a morphed Akroma, AoF.

Sudden Shock and discounted Char are probably her two best uses. A discounted Stonewood Invocation isn't bad. If need be, you can even get off a cheap Krosan Grip to kill a Sacred Mesa, Factory token, or other relevant card.

Ball Lightning is one of my favorite cards, and I'm so happy to see it back. Changing it to green doesn't bother me at all. However, that it's planeshifted and therefore so rare--and presumably costly--ticks me off. I want a playset and I don't want to pay $20 each for them. Hopefully, I'll just luck out and get them in my boxes/at the prerelease.

In some article or another, Wizards (MaRo, I think) said that Madness belongs in black. Therefore, I think all the Madness cards will be black, including the Wurm. If not the Wurm, I'll be that's the only non-black Madness card. Yes, I know Fiery Temper was reprinted, but that's a timeshift.

I really love this card. No, it probably isn't great for Standard, but there are many ways to put this card to work. I have a deck that discards auras to pump Wild Mongrel and then uses Nomad Mythmaker to put them into play. This card fits that deck perfectly. In casual, Retether combos with lots of stuff.

To anyone complaining it's too narrow to be a rare, that's exactly why it should be a rare. In a draft, you don't want two or three of these floating around, because they will be mostly useless. You also don't want to open 15 of these in a box. This card is a perfect example of what a rare should be.

The real problem is, there are only four spells right now that can actually answer BOTH akromas (and don't cost an outrageous amount): Utopia Vow, Wrath of God, Damnation, and Cruel Edict. And that last one is contingent on the Akroma player having no other creatures in play.

Actually, there are a few more:
    Squall Line
    Void
    Evacuation
Plague Wind (although that does cost an outrageous amont)

What obscene fatties seen have seen play in T2?
Keiga, Meloku, Angel of Despair, SSS, Akroma, Koko, Yosei.

You do mean recent T2, right? Because if not, Rith, Dromar, Spiritmonger, Verdant Force, and Spirit of the Night would like to have words with you.

    GeminiDreams,

I like your Kird Ape idea. I really think that it's really name will be "... Simian". Maybe Riptide Simian, Citanul Simian? Dunno....

Simian Ape sounds a little redundant, doesn't it?

My honest guess is that it would shift to green and be Swamp.

Why couldn't be an exact mirror image? Green and get bigger from mountains. This is because Zoo needs to run 8 kirdies. :p

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Green or White and got bigger off of plains/forests.

It's not actually that far out of color/theme. Blue has Annex, White has Armageddon, and Red has, well, everything else (Stone Rain, Wildfire, Rain of Salt,Pillage,Molten Rain)

The white part didn't bother me (I'm a 'geddon player from way back), but the blue struck me as really odd. I thought of Annex, but that doesn't destroy. It doesn't bother me, but it does seem odd. Of course, this is Planar Chaos.

Numot is cool, but a blue critter that blows up lands? That's bizarre. This would've been a more in-theme ability on the RBW one. Still, this is a great dragon. Not sure if it will see constructed play, but it's decent.

The Tomb is interesting. Not sure what to do with it, other than hook it up with swampwalkers in casual. I guess it makes it easier to splash black.

idiot edit: I forgot about the interactions of that land with Magus of the Coffers, Tendrils of Corruption and Consume Spirit. Wow! This really is Torment v2!

    If I had my way, signature races would be;

    White- Dwarves
    Red- Goblins
    Green- Elves
Blue- Moonfolk (Seriously. These guys were cool)
    Black- Rats/Nezumi

Sign me up for that! I like your categorization very much. I would prefer Merfolk to Moonfolk, but I'd accept the Moonfolk. I love Rats and want more of them. Swarmyard FTW!

Seriously, that system makes plenty of sense. I wish there was a hope in hell WotC would adopt it.

You can sac him to the Rusalka or bring him back after a Wrath. Plus he will mostly get in to do his damage and gets bigger with Bad Moon. I think he's a very solid creature.

There is an entry for 2GU. This can be the casting cost of the sphinx, since it is in a forest close to a river.

Nice find and it seems really spot on. I hope it is good enough for play. Sphinx is one of my favorite creature types that has been seriously under-utilized.

Maybe some Thieving Magpie variant with higher power?

What about a version of this that runs Razia's Purification? You can really cripple your opponent and sac a lot of stuff to the Gargadons. If you use Flagstones of Trokair, you will end up with an extra land, too.

Hmm. I'll start working on a list.
