Apparently my meta is shifting to combo, which makes me tempted to become that player by playing Resource Denial or something like it.

    Dewwit.

It's a part of the game, and they need to be able to fight through it Grin

I'm kind of wanting to play Kaho, Minamo Historian, but have never really been a fan of Mono-Blue. I kinda wish they had made another Legendary with that effect, though multicolored. Maybe Temur?

Ah, Risk Factor. It's that time of spoiler season again, when everyone has to be reminded that Browbeat and Sword-Point Diplomacy are not Modern-(or even Standard-)playable cards. Risk Factor does even less damage than Browbeat, meaning you could have just burnt them with Exquisite Firecraft, Flames of the Blood Hand or Flame Javelin instead. Burn is a deck that often needs to topdeck to win; if you draw Exquisite Firecraft when your opponent is at 4, you win, but if you draw Risk Factor while your opponent is at 4, maybe you don't. No point throwing away percentage points on unreliable cards like this.

It has jump-start, but a bad card that you get to cast twice is still a bad card.

I think if Risk Factor goes in anything, it'll go into a Counterburn deck. If such a deck ever exists and can work is another story.

Sadly, the final clause on Etrata makes it pretty clear she's intended for Commander.

Notta; as an avid Commander player (Commander and modern are the best formats)I can tell you that she's pretty bad in Commander. You either shuffle her into your library and have to waste resources digging her back out (might as well try to win the game if you did that), or you send her back to the command zone and have to cast her three times for 18 mana (4 + 6 + 8) in order to kill one player. You can do a lot more for 18 mana.

If she was able to be Collected Company-ed, though, she'd make Bad Company (BGx, U in this case.) a deck that could actually work. It's already decent with Varolz, The Scar-Striped, Death's Shadow, and Grim Flayer, and Etrata could've been a reason to go U over R (Vexing Devil, Fling, Ghor-Clan Rampager) other than Skaab Ruinator.

I feel like Etrata would have been better as a 2/4 for 3 rather than a 3/5 for four.

Is Firemane Angel any good in the sideboard in a meta with a decent amount of burn/Aggro?

With all the ways we have to just dump it straight to the graveyard, I'd think gaining anywhere from 2-4 life a turn passively would be backbreaking against those kinds of decks.

Lands doesn't have a Burgeoning, Ghost Quarter, or even Ramunap Excavator. Those are critical misses with respect to the identity of the power of lands decks, which is to maximize the power of utility lands. There should be more utility lands and even a Realms Uncharted would be fine.

While those are nice, I honestly wasn't really expecting them to come to play in the Jund deck. We all know the power of Lands decks, what they do and what they're trying to do. However, as an introductory product to the idea of Lands Mattering, I think they could have easily made a fun and unique precon without making it so one dimensional.

As I said in the other thread, by simply taking cards like Drown in Filth, Borborygmos Enraged, and Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant, and made more cards caring about what lands were where, they would have made an excellent precon that was not only a great entry to a style of deck, but a pre-con powered one at that. As it is, our "Lands Matter" deck is a stupid "Ramp into fatty, turn fatty sideways" deck that has next to no finesse to playing it :/

I wasn't expecting much when the Hydra and Spider were spoiled, tbh.

So I was fully expecting to see some X spells in the jund list, most likely Lavalanche (which is in there).

But that's not a "Lands Matter" decklist, that's a Big Mana decklist. There's a huge difference.

The only land that I can look at in that list and think "Yeah, I'd want to pull that back into the battlefield over and over again" is Bojuka Bog, with Myriad Landscape being a close second.

Why does the Land Matters deck not have a new land with an effect? Why don't they have the creature that etbs as a land (Arixmethes)? Why doesn't it have any repeatable way to sacrifice lands in order to pull them back out again in the graveyard colors? Why is only the commander on the front of the box on theme?

There is so much they could have done with this concept (a few more Retrace cards (Monstrify), "Sac Lands" (Sylvan Safekeeper), more ETB land cards/sac lands (Ebon Stronghold as a low power card), a little bit of Dredge support (Drown in Filth)). Heck, Drown in Filth, Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant, Borborygmos Enraged, and other cards like that would have made me actually have to worry about what lands were where and would have made for a very interesting precon.

As it is, this is just a stupid battlecruiser ramp deck that someone could easily put together by themselves. I'm not even upset by the value, just how shoddily the deck is constructed according to the theme.

I think this will be a singles round for me, sadly. I'll probably pick up Lord Windgrace, Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow, and Reality Scramble and that'll be it for me.

So considering that there are four commanders per box spoiled, it's safe to say that Serra ain't coming this time around.

Unfortunate. I'd personally love to see a decent Angel based planeswalker.

Oh, you also need Mana Severance; depending on how many tokens you have, and if you have one of the type cards out, you can guarantee the fact that you swing for lethal since you won't turn a single land over.

Not really. I see potential in Echo Storm, Fury Storm, Reality Scramble, Saheeli's Directive, Myth Unbound, Retrofitter Foundry, and some of the commanders to be particularly strong. But not notably moreso than is common for Commander products.

If Magus of the Balance had an activation cost of less than 3 mana, you might have a point. But at 5 mana it's almost fair.

Magus of the Balance seems to be an artifact card more than a white one, because you can do the usual shenanigans with it without losing all your mana rocks. In a Jeskai or such artifact deck, I think the potential is still there.

I would also say that Whiptongue Hydra is pretty good in the metas that it fits in, Treasure Nabber seems great, and Estrid's Invocation seems like it's just waiting to be abused.

I also think Heavenly Blademaster is a great card in equipment heavy decks since it has evasion, doublestrike, auto equips whatever you want when it enters, and can *easily* have haste due to Lightning Greaves or similar. Two swords of X and Y and a pair of boots and she's hitting really, really hard.

I would throw in a Grave Titan, due to getting more "ninjas" and having a rather high mana cost for being revealed.

Also Oona, Queen of the Fae seems like a good token producer as well.

Edit: Okay, I really like Yuriko. Just sad her trigger is restricted to ninjas Frown
Still, probably better to buy a couple singles than the sealed product from what I have seen.
Also, "Commander Ninjitsu" is <snip> they should have just errata'd Ninjitsu to work from the Command Zone.

    Xenograft, Conspiracy, Arcane Adaptation......

She's a great commander for card advantage in the early turns, then you just make a couple of tokens, drop one of those three, play Mana Severance, and easily alpha strike the entire table.

Did blue really need Impulse-draw? Aminatou's Augury is a good card, but I don't like how it's basically a better Apex of Power.....

^ "If she's blocked, you get to sac her and ninjutsu her back in"

    Ok, that's hilarious.

The only issue is that there aren't a lot of other good ninjas.

But Yuriko herself is plenty powerful, and if you're going to play her you might as well throw in all of the other good ninjas for synergy.

Not at all my good man. She's in the colors of Xenograft and Conspiracy, you can easily just use her Ninja thing as additional value during the regular game and then as an alpha strike later on with a lot of tokens due to her Trump-esque Bob effect.
