The Shuffler article contains the code used for the shuffler. The computer does not have a choice on whether or how to use that code, so MWS cannot deviate from the results proffered by the code. Since the code is sound, the shuffler is sound.

What we have is sample bias. You remember "bad" shuffles and so your recollection overemphasizes the bad shuffles. The Shuffler has been tested objectively over a sample of hundreds of thousands shuffles multiple times. It conforms to the expected statistical distribution of cards.

The further your real-life experiences deviate from MWS, the less random your real-life shuffling.

    Yes.

Ostensibly the registration is to support development and unlock certain features.

In actuality, registration is to show your appreciation for the work of others that you now employ and enjoy.

And unless you only play in solitaire mode or by direct IP connection, you most likely utilize MWSPlay.net which is wholly offered by the developers.

    Yes.

You should still pay for it, though.

What about us, deck testers that have patience and rules knowledge? ... So, should i be condemned to the irrational noob-ish-ness of random people on MWS? Mad

When did "tend to" become "blanket condemnation"?

What I wonder is, with experiences such as these, how people are able to stomach playing online in the first place. I love Magic Workstation and I use the solitaire mode incessantly for testing (best $20 I've ever spent on Magic), but I absolutely can't stand playing random people online.

I love playing random people online. I just steer clear of anyone in deck-testing mode (if I want competitive play, I go to Magic-League or MTGTemple for a game).

Deck testers tend to have the least patience while the casual crowd has the least rules knowledge (both, unfortunately, plumb the depths of bad manners).

Then it came to me, you could design equipment that are "big" that only "big" creatures can handle because they are too heavy for the small creatures to carry.

Doing it by converted mana cost does not quite work because you can have weakling creatures with high P/T thanks to special abilities.

Instead, follow the example of O-Naginata. It can only be attached to a creature with 3 or more power, necessitating a certain level of strength to wield the weapon.

I think this is partly because the MWS shuffler sucks ass

    How, exactly?

If you could please read this article and get back to me with the point or points in the programming that you find insufficient. It includes the shuffling algorithm as well as a link to the pseudorandom number generator's algorithm.

MWSChat is broken. It does not work. I am not sure if it ever really worked. It is a useless artifact of a long dead build.

Use Connect to Opponent (Ctrl+I) to find games. Just make sure your deck is selected rather than your master base. It will automatically default to MWSPlay.net and I have never seen it empty.

I disagree. If the forum were entirely devoted to Magic Online discussion, it would be called something akin to "Magic Online" or "Magic Online Discussion."

If you play on Magic Workstation, there are leagues at MtGTemple.com and Magic-League.com (not to mention the pick-up games available through the program's server).

Make sure you manually save the deck before closing MWS. Last I heard, trying to close MWS and saving at the "Do you want to save?" prompt will lead to this error.

    Catholic here.

I do not believe the mention of "genetic modification" is meant to exclude the practice whole cloth. I believe the Church supports genetic research towards the ends of treating and curing genetic diseases. Rather, I believe the sin of genetic modification is found in the idea of "designer babies."

Insofar as I understand Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life and the proper place of mankind in procreation, it would be an abuse to genetically modify one's child to, for example, have blue eyes instead of green eyes. Or to be taller, shorter, smarter, etc.

It would not be an abuse, however, to cure the child's cystic fibrosis.

Unfortunately, I am not a particularly good choice for elaboration as to why.

Can you give me a link to an Apprentice file?

I tried Magic-League but their decks section has a simple txt list for Apprentice decks (which you can easily copy and paste into MWS).

Ninja Edit: Okay, I got an Apprentice .dec file from StarCityGames.

I was able to open and import it just fine. Make sure you are loading it into the bottom half (usually the Master base is forced to load up top unless you uncheck that option in Preferences).

Failing that, any .dec can be opened in Notepad. Just copy the decklist and paste it into MWS.

People are not following the Play Guide if they are using the arrows to indicate attacks.

When people do not follow the Play Guide, the universe falls out of balance.
