The only reason this deck even exists is because WR is a good tempo card.

If you are not running WR you might as well just play UW. If Growth Spiral is the bees knees just play Bant controll where you tap out for Teferi.

One possible card in the sideboard is old school teferi.

Can be found with tutor. More importantly he can be cast eot forcing a counter. When they tap out (or if they let him resolve) use the window to play wildernes reclamation.

I do not think elder deep fiend is good. The reason we can support high mcm costs is because WR nets us mana. Elder deep fiend has to be cast in their turn. The sqme with draining whelk, time stop etc.

You are idealy looking for cards uo to 4 that you can cast of a tutor, or the turn you play WR. Or a big instant you can float mana to cast. Jin-Gitaxis comes to mind.

Blue pact could also be good to sett up a play, as paying 5 does not nesaseraly ruin us.

I am wondering, why do these decks only run 3 wildernes reclamation? Would not 4 be better? It cas so much card draw, having 2 in hand does not seem that bad.

I have run 2 in the main when I run flayers. They are supricingly relevant, and it opens up slots in the sifeboard. I no flayer rock I think they sound a bit worse.

Although Sol Maka played mishras baubles, so you never know.

What is torpor orb for? The animator module? It does bot work with replacement effects, only triggered abilaties.

@akalah I to have been experimenting with rock and eldrazies before. I did try some weard lists. Matter reshaper/kitchen finks/eternal witnes into edlrict evolution for smasher or TKS. My general takeaway was that it was hard to balance the mana. I was heavy into planes walkers. I do notvthink such a deck can support double green and black. Should I run birds? Who knows.

All I know is that TKS is the pinacle of what GBx wants to do. Remove hands and apply preasure. In the end I could not make it work. Adding a 4th colour demands a lott of mana. Perhaps FoR could help out? Also, warping wail is a cool one of.

But enough about that. How do people feel about tasigurs over bobs?

FlyingDelver I do belive it was a stock list I used when I found the list running 2 sword of fire and ice.

As I said the list was a very different beast then what we are seeing now.

If I rememver correctly it must have been something like:

    4 Bop
    4 Wall of Blossoms
    4 Eternal Witnes
    4 Ravenus Ballots
    1 Geneis
    1 Kokusho, the Evening Star

    4 Cabal Therapy
    2 Vampyric Tutor
    4 Pernicius Deed
2 Sword of Fire and Ice
    1 Reacurring Nightmare
    1 Cranial Extraction
    x amount of spot removal

    1 Volraths Stronghold
    4 Treetop Village
    4 Wasteland (?)
    1 Dustbowl
    x amount of lands

I bring this up to debate Sword of Fire and Ice. As you can see the deck is an entierly different beast. Most notably Cabal Terapy is very good with Birds, Wall of Blossom and Eternal Witnes as they all rebuy resources, allow you to rebuy Cabal Therapy or flash it back. If the first terapy gets a hit, you can garantee that the second one gets a hit, if you are lucky enough to get 2 hits on one you are so far ahead on the resources. This foundation means that it justefies mana dorks. In that configuration Sword of Fire and Ice represents such good controll vs midrange decks, and card draw in grindy situations.

    But that deck was absurd.

Also note that 2 Vampyric Tutor + Cranial Extraction or Haunting Echoes means you can mostly take out linear combo decks by removing a key piece. This deck was absurd. Eternal Witnes + Volraths Stronghold is absurd. Eternal Witnes + Genesis is Absurd. Eternal Witnes or Wall of Blossoms with Reacurring Nightmare is absurd.

Pernicius Deed was also so good. You popped it down, and then you can sweep when ever you want. And you can divide the mana over 2 turns, something we can not do with Gaze of Granite.

But Sword of Fire and Ice was also good with Treetop Village. With 5 lands you can stil trigger it. In these modern days Sword of Life and Death could also be cool. Unfortunatly I do not think it is very good as you need mana dorks to run them probably, and modern Rock can not support them. That being said both of them are good at grinding.

Update: Looking at your primer on a pc based web page. The layout on here is sick. (Good.)

When was Obliterock ever a deck?

This primer ia very well done. I only came 1/3 of the way before I realised I need to sett of time to read it propperly. Good job so far, I will get back to it if there is anything.

One thing, very minor, the format does not work on mobile phone. Do not swett it though, the decklist where fine and visible.

Some minor things. Around extended period rock, many lists ran sword of fire and ice. It is not mentioned. Mind you they ran bird so you could gi bird t1, sword 2, discard + equip attack turn 3. Mind you thise decks where chocked full of legacy style cards. (Cabal, tutor, stronghold and reacurring.)

Also, under gravyeard hate, could you list Ravrnous Trap. It is good vs dredge. And unlike leyline you do not have to draw it directly.

I think Ajani is a bit underwhelming at 4 mana. The counter things are not that interesting. Often you will not have 2 targets for it on the draws that are threath light. There are some good synergies with manlands, (lifelink or trample) as well as grim flayer.

BGx has the best 2 drops in the game, so the patern would be return a 2 drop to defend it. It might have good synergi with grim flayer. Also tidehollow skuller could be good vs non interactive decks.

If you are in abzan I am a big fan of Sorin Sojourner. The vampier is medioker, but the +1/0 and lifelink is very good to tipp a lot of matchups.

I tried Sol Makas list in a local tournament.

Lost vs monogreen tron. I was stuck on lands (ghost quarter dod not help) and he never ran out of basics. Game one lost hands down. Game 2 he just sided into more midrange. One sphere later (that backfired when I was short on lands) Tron just came up to 8 lands and ugined me.

Lost vs a waste not deck. Wonn vs burn and wonn vs pelt colector zoo deck.

I miss treetop village. I also miss more card draw. I liked the traverse, but eternal witnes and trunn did not impress me. And I really like eternal witness in other modern decks. (I played kiki chord for a long while.)

I also playtested it vs storm. It was 50/50. The storm player sided out the mana bears, stranding me with a lot of dead cards. It is fun mind games.

Yeah. Or bolt. But the deck had only commited 3 cards and a land drop. Quite good in the blind.

Ghost Quarter and assassins throphy + discard gives awnsers to natural tron. Field can be to slow.

@pzbw7z in what matchup do you want Phyrexian Obliterator? You might actually tro to jump through some hoops (read Dromoka's Command) if you want to run him. Just dodge blood moons.

Obliterock was the flavor of the month a years years ago. It's just nostalgia. It's a fun card for FNM. I did play it for quite a while.

Back in my day we dark ritualed into Phyrexian Negator.

Grim Flayer reminds me of Tidehollow Skuller. It often eats a removal. Except when your oponent does not interact, or when you have delerium.
