@SNESman you should try Bident of thassa it have drawn me out of alot of sticky situations with only judge's familiar in play it can draw enough gas to win. I know it doesnt make tokens but its an artifact
Thorn are best in the sideboard, when they are good they are amazing, when they are bad they are awful. Most decks don't care about them. For my part i still side them in from time to time. There are a lot of combo player, i see ad nauseam, grishoalbrand and burn every once in a while so they are still very helpful in those matchups. Not so long ago i faced two u/b mill decks in a row so i was glad i had the available for game 2-3 haha.
As to the plan behind Thorn of Amethyst, It's still under test, but its a nice complement to what I'm trying to do, or the direction I'm taking.
This list runs 4 lodestones, 4 certarchs, 2 phyrexian metamorph, 4 judge's familiar, and now 2 thorn of amethyst. Tempo has been a huge deal of victories, and locking out happens far more often than one might think.
Replaced 2 Thopther Spy Network for two Thorn of Amethyst. Not enough games for a final verdict, but so far locking / tempoing out people far more often.
Thopter Spy Network haven't been an all star atm. Mostly because I never find it when it matters, hehehe. It's sort of a backup plan against attrition matches, perhaps it's place (if any) resides on the SB. I'm keeping it maindeck for the time being for testing purposes.
Overall, most wins are coming from a disruption / tempo plan then presenting a very fast clock.
And its consistently beating top tier decks. Buried Ruin has been great as the Trading Posts.
Vedalken Certarch has been good, and sometimes my only out in certain matchups.
On this version you get to play the MUD game in modern sometimes, and it's a huge boost to the tempo game we are playing.
Been impressed with Sage of Epityr so far, will def buy polluted deltas on mol anytime soon to further explore it.
Hangarback Walker: haven't bought those just yet but they seem like a solid addition.
Vedalken Shackles: capacity to put us over the top, however, how can we foil kolagan command to protect it?
Lark: Seems too slow.
Here's my current version followed by commentary:
4 Grand Architect
2 Bident of Thassa
4 Martyr of Frost
4 Myr Superion
4 Chief Engineer
4 Sage of Epityr
4 Judge's Familiar
4 Lodestone Golem
4 Flooded Strand
4 Buried Ruin
4 Phyrexian Metamorph
1 Hallowed Fountain
12 Island
1 Academy Ruins
4 Sky Hussar
Phyrexian Metamorph, Academy Ruins, Martyr of Frost: infinite counterspells, this is further true when you keep drawing because of sky hussar and boost you mana with grand architect (6 mana + academy or 3 mana plus academy plus architect plus a blue dork.
Dude, this deck is awesome, played against it on modo today and it sounded freaking awesome. I mught be brewing back to blumen again, meanwhile, here was my last list:
4 Grand Architect
4 Vedalken Engineer
4 Etherium Sculptor
4 Æther Spellbomb
4 Riddlesmith
4 Terrarion
4 Chromatic Star
4 Chromatic Sphere
4 Mishra, Artificer Prodigy
4 Flooded Strand
1 Watery Grave
1 Steam Vents
1 Verdant Catacombs
1 Marsh Flats
1 Blood Crypt
12 Island
1 Academy Ruins
2 Molten-Tail Masticore
Atop the previous mentioned benefits (notifying friends that you're playing mtgo, having all your games on the same place) I would add the screenshots function, it's great to easily have them all saved and uploaded for sharing etc...

Vedalken Certarch, Judge's Familiar, Lodestone Golem trio.
They undermine and sometimes lock down the opponent mana.
Welding Jar Keeps the tempo in favor and it's a must have along the Golem.
Sage of Epityr combined with fetch lands is maybe good enough, since here it contributes later with the turn 2 Lodestones and turn 3 Wurmcoils.
Here's the list Ive been trying around:
4 Judge's Familiar
4 Chief Engineer
12 Island
4 Flooded Strand
3 Myr Superion
