You might want to cut two Grapeshot, as they're your win condition and when you're comboing off, you'll likely draw over half your deck, so a playset of Grapeshot isn't really necessary.
There's also an absence of Desperate Ravings/Faithless Looting, both of which keep fueling the combo. Look into other spells that dig, like Anticipate, Peer through Depths, and Thought Scour.
Also you could probably cut one fetch, 17 land seems a bit excessive.
Insanely lucky draws for the win probably stems from a lack of some spells, like Thought Scour and Ravings. They dig much deeper than 3 Peeks and 4 Probes.
So I just beat a guy when I missed a land drop turn 3, drew a third land turn 4, had in hand electromancer, two rituals, PiF, ascension, and a Manamorphose.
Mostly they're able to kill me faster than I anticipate initially after game 1. After some more thought I think I'm being way too conservative with Manamorphose and other cantrips to draw into my engines.
@lordoftheshadows Defense Grid has done wonders against the few Faeries decklists I played against, as well as control matchups. Plus the amount of times I actually draw Defense Grid and play it haven't really overlapped with the amount of times I've drawn my counters.
That actually leads me to something I want to bring up. Dispel vs. Spell Pierce. Which is more consistently better?
Just got back from FNM with testing. Mostly my matchups are pretty standard, nothing too unusual, but I'm losing a lot to tempo, delver and midrange. I'm not sure if I'm just playing incorrectly against them, or maybe my sideboard tech isn't doing the job, or maybe it's just bad luck.
In any case, I'm going to put my sideboard here.
I forgot to include the 4th copy of Shivan Reef. Also someone just sold me another copy of Steam Vents, so now I hAve a playset of both. That should be 16 lanf, but I still don't think I have enough fetches, despite all the hunting I've been doing.
Thoughts? There might be too much pain. I also traded for an extra Shivan Reef, maybe take out the red fetch for it?
As for the fetches, I don't have any other than the ones in the deck, but next week's FNM I'll be trying to find some more, maybe some Tarns and Misty Rainforest.
The Pact is there for the utility more than anything else, but if Dispel/Spell Pierce is a better option overall, I'll use those instead. I want to test the current decklist a bit before making any big changes to the mainboard.
For the landbase, taking out the Evolving Wilds will be just fine to me, but getting more Steam Vents will be a small problem. Shivan Reef will be easier to trade for, at least for me.
Would this landbase be good enough? I was just notified that a copy of Misty Rainforest would be arriving soon.
Well, I'm nearly done with my own deck, just getting a couple more cards in the mail from various trades and eBay orders. Once I have everything in the list I'll be seeing how it does at my LGS.
In any case, I'm going to do some testing with Anticipate.
Plus Anticipate is at instant speed, so it could/would be a bit more efficient mana use, and has the same freedom as Sleight of Hand in the sense that you can choose any card from the top 3.
So, I've been playing my decklist of this deck on Cockatrice, and I have a couple interaction questions:
When I cast a card from my graveyard when Pyromancer Ascension is on the battlefield with 2 counters on it, say, Pyretic Ritual, do both copies of the card count towards my storm count?
And does the same go if I were to flashback a spell with or without using Past in Flame, does that flashbacked spell count toward storm count?
This helped a lot actually, thanks.
Just to see if I understand what you're saying, Insight isn't good enough because, while it is very good when we're comboing off, it doesn't thin out our decks enough and is inconsistent if it's in our opening hand.
This might have already been said, but I haven't read the entire thread yet, so here's my question.
Would Magmatic Insight be a viable card in mainboard, or at least sideboard? You do have to pitch a land, but from what I've seen only about 4-5 lands are enough to get the combo off. Insight is basically cycling a land for more gas, and only costs one red.
Then again, I've only just begun seriously building this deck, so I may be completely wrong and there's just not enough room for it in Storm.
There's also an absence of Desperate Ravings/Faithless Looting, both of which keep fueling the combo. Look into other spells that dig, like Anticipate, Peer through Depths, and Thought Scour.

The more I play this deck, the more I love it.

Looks like it's time to empty my wallet and trade binder for those fetches.
