From my experience, Ad Nauseam is pretty well positioned in the current meta. Delver, which is one of the most common decks at the moment, is a pretty good matchup, and the things we have trouble with (namely Infect) aren't very common. In addition, discard (which is the bane of combo decks) is definitely on the decline.
In regards to Leyline and Patrician's Scorn: I don't think it's ever a good idea to run Patrician's Scorn mainboard, because no one runs Leyline mainboard. However, I do side it in in most matchups because it can come out of decks you don't expect.
EDIT: And in regards to Eidolon of Rhetoric, Ethersworn Canonist, and the like, you should be running at least 1 Slaughter Pact mainboard, and be able to side in another. Pact the thing at the end of your opponent's turn, and combo off when the Pact trigger is on the stack.
EDITEDIT: Just realized no one really answered Jymx's question about having only one wincon. Yes, Ad Nauseam typically only runs one copy of its wincon (which is Lighting Storm) but that is almost always enough. Most lists run a mainboard Conjurerer's Bauble to fight discard, and you don't have to worry about whether or not you'll draw into Lighting Storm.
Cloud of Faeries is a pretty well-known combo deck in Pauper. I've only heard of it referred to as Cloud of Faeries and Mono-Blue. It uses Cloud of Faeries, Ghostly Flicker, and Mnemonic Wall go make infinite mana with karoo lands.
"A mana ability is either (a) an activated ability without a target that could put mana into a player’s mana pool when it resolves or (b) a triggered ability without a target that triggers from a mana ability and could produce additional mana. A mana ability can generate other effects at the same time it produces mana."
Opal Palace's ability, along with Horizon Canopy's, falls into the first category. The only common things that produce mana that aren't mana abilities are spells that add mana to your mana pool, like Dark Ritual.
Nope. They're still mana abilities, so they aren't affected.
EDIT: to be clear, any activated abilities that produce mana are mana abilities, as are triggered abilities that trigger from mana abilities to produce mana. This is specified in section 406.1 of the Comprehensive Rules.
EDIT2: I don't believe that's correct. Opal Palace's second ability is still a mana ability even though it requires a cost to activate.
From what I've seen, the issue isn't necessarily the power level of the card in comparison to DTT and TC (although that definitely has a nonzero amount to do with it), it's that the decks that did run rev-primarily UWR control and UW tron-just aren't very competitive in the current meta.
Hello everyone i am looking for a deck that has a ton of staples and can change from deck to deck with ease
Playstyle is aggro/control i do not like combo.
Budget no budget 600+
Decks i like: Jund seems fun but does not seem competitive enough
I also want a deck the can be converted to legacy without any major list changes.
I currently play U/W miracles in legacy it is great
And have a UR delver deck that is not fun to play.
Modern merfolk converts to Legacy merfolk really smoothly-you just thrown in Dazes and Force of Wills. It isn't heavy on staples, but the counterspells and Aether Vials it runs are used in other decks.
The extra Hallowed Fountain and Watery Grave are placeholders until I get my hands on a pair of Flooded Strands. I'm thinking of cutting the third mainboard Unlife for a Mystical Teachings. The Steel Sabotages are there because I haven't been able to get my hands on any Hurkle's Recalls yet. Aegis of the Gods is supposed to be a budget Leyline (since I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment) but I've never boarded them in, and I'm concerned that any matchup for which I'd board them in would be able to deal with them too easily. Any recommendations for replacements until I can actually get Leylines? I'm also considering cutting either the sideboard Swan Song or Phyrexian Unlife for a Conflagrate.
Yeah, I understand that-I use Lightning Storm, and was just curious about Conflagrate. I could see having one in the board to side in vs. a deck that could board Slaughter Games. Is that a reasonable strategy, or is combo hate like that too rare to be worth preparing for?
I've been considering putting this list together, and I can get all of the maindeck and most of the sideboard. Unfortunately, at the moment, I don't have the money to shell out for a playset of leylines. What would you suggest to replace them with in the sideboard until I can get them?
