I created my Hasbro account ahead of time, preloaded as much info as I could (shipping/billing addresses) then sat on the morning with auto-refresh and page change notification going. They updated right at 8am PST and the site immediately bogged down. Was able to load one into cart and check out though. This will be my third set (got the other two off eBay). With Liliana spiking, and Chandra/Gideon holding good value, it's very worthwhile to pick and strip the sets individually. Getting one for only $100 saves a lot. I'm planning on holding on to the Jaces and Nissas, since they're only about $35 right now anyway.
I can't afford that luxury being from the UK so am forced to buy online. £200 all in isn't too bad seeing as shops here are selling for £310 and no one has one in stock.
I'm not down on it at all. If you've read my posts you'd see I've said it "looks like a hit to me". I'm working on a Legacy deck and my collection at the same time. What I'm down on the the rampant price gouging that goes on with these and yes some (not all) of the blame goes to buyers who stupidly will pay 3 or 4 times MSRP for these sets. Poor choices and actions of others(producer, seller and buyers) makes it harder for some of us to procure decent pricing on these.
While I understand where you're coming from, you shouldn't just group every player as the "end consumer". Yes literally it does look like that but functionally the product has to go through the murky waters of the Secondary Market before it ends up with the "true end consumer" who won't resell the product. I'm not even touching on those people who solely purchase Magic for that reason (honestly those people are just opportunistic), but seriously speaking, most players (who mostly play) are still partially "invested" into the whole chain, like it or not.
What you described as a "decent" pricing (at MSRP) is actually clearly "very cheap and highly profitable" to everyone, not just the middleman. Ask anyone here if they would like to purchase a foil Dark Depths for around 1/5th of its price and along with 15 other free foil cards of great value and the answer is yes.... even if the person doesn't even want to play/collect with any of those cards. I know you faulted all sellers and buyers (not exclusively the middleman), but I think the extra focus/blame on the middleman generally isn't completely justified either, since they have bills to pay to sustain the interest that WotC gives them in the first place (plus for most of them it's their job and livelihood to begin with), they are in a sense very much a victim of the Secondary Market as we are.
Focusing on the MSRP does nothing. Ever since FTVs were announced they pretty much admitted the MSRP was just a mathematical equation and doesn't reflect anything accurately. I mean even if they enforced it, what's stopping individuals from just opening them into singles where there is no MSRP involved? In fact, the FTV series is slowly, but already showing its breakdown already, I generally see less and less people buy them at inflated prices each passing year because it's cheaper to get what you want from it as singles anyway (and some stores are already breaking them as singles since it's easier to justify and sell as singles in the Secondary Market).
So does that make me a bad person as I'll be sitting on my one copy. I don't intend to sell it any time soon and it will probably sit in my display for many years. I did think about buying a second copy and making a quick buck but that's only becasue people will pay silly money for it.
Thanks for all that. I'm am registered on the site but got confused about payment. It wanted me to add funds but In assuming I can just pay by PayPal directly. Seeing as the pound isn't doing so well I'm not in a rush to buy.
Firstly I'm not asking for people to sell me stuff. I would like to know where I can buy old sealed product like FTV:Exiled and Archenemy. I have tried the usual online auction sites and I've tried on here in the trading post but it doesn't allow for such items to be traded.
I should add preferably in the EU as there is not import duty to pay.
I fortunately own a set of both Planechase sets and all the planes and the have missed an opportunity to put everything together in one nice set. I hope they have the promo cards mounted in a similar to the SDCC stuff. I missed the boat in pre ordering for £100 so here's hoping I can find somewhere cheaper than £179.
I've left my box out by the computer so everytime I do work I want to open the thing. I just can't bring myself to do it. How long I can resist I don't know.
Just looked around in the UK and it's already available for preorder at £100. Not sure whether to wait and see if theprice drops as I already have a complete set of both planechase still sealed.

I like them, I like them that much I ordered a set.

Thank you
