How was it. “Hogaak will dominate everything!”.

So far, my prediction was more than accurate. Hogaak Tier 1, nowhere near to being oppressive.

Hard to deny at this point. Honestly I enjoyed the games watching that, more than most Phoenix games I watched, but with Phoenix whiffing on the GP for the first time (I think?) well now people can just say 'everything is fine, nothing to see here!'

No Changes, and with UW x 2 in the GP? lol @ SFM.

There's still top 16/32 which will provide a more accurate picture of Hogaak + other decks' performance.
Not surprised UW did well, it's got so many tools the past year or two.

Yeah we certainly dont know the full story yet, but I am of the opinion that Wizard's puts a dramatic amount of weight behind Top 8, and 'perception'.

Will be interesting to dig into this + SCG + SCG Classic, and see what went down.

There are actually two copies of UW Control in top 8 of GP and no Phoenix.

Oh wow. Will be super interested in seeing the lists.

What a mess of a weekend, I love it. Grin

Well...thats a disaster from the perspective of getting Hogaak out of here. We are stuck with it for sure now.

That is a really diverse top 8 out of the GP though.

Think he won his win-and-in to top 8 too.

That would be awesome, he's been on the losing end of that win and in top 8 several times.

OK, the GP numbers are looking a bit closer to expected.

    Hogaak - 18%
    Humans - 7%
    Phoenix - 7%
    Mono R Phoenix - 6.8%
    Burn - 5.5%
    E Tron - 5.5%
    UW - 5.5%
    Jund - 5%

    Lets gooooooooo Hogaak Top 8s!

    EDIT: SCG Top 8 Pairings.

    UR Phoenix/Urza/UR Phoenix
    R Phoenix/GW Combo/Humans

    Humans/UR Phoenix/UR Phoenix
    Hogaak/Humans/Infect

    Hogaak/Humans/E Tron
    Urza/Burn/Infect

    Hogaak/Humans/GDS
    UR Phoenix/UR Phoenix/UR Phoenix

If the GP matches that at all, I'm selling some flappy birds tomorrow.

I mean, Phoenix is definitely a quiet offender. It had fantastic results at the MC tournament, but due to limited I don't think Phoenix was properly represented.

I very much think faithless looting is becoming an issue for modern and could go down the road of Probe. No, faithless looting is not to nerf Hoogak decks, it's an overall meta health issue.

I dont know why people continued to say Phoenix was fine. We will see though. If we get 2 or 3 Phoenix in this weekend's Top 8's, I'm laughing and then selling.

arclight phoenix still doing well, is phoenix a quiet offender?

    Wink

(I got some hate a few weeks back on Twitter for pointing out how powerful Phoenix is, people know.)

These results are really disappointing, no way does it see a ban if they dont have some massive conversion to Top 8.

They made a statement noting that they thought the new Eldrazi could be an issue with Eye/Temple, but didn't want to be held back in Standard design for a potential issue in Modern.

    Comical really.
havnet seen any of the coverage yet, but comical sounds good to me. i hope bridgevine is hilarious in its performance. lets put this to bed sooner rather than later so the format can move on.

Funny thing is I don't know we have seen the ceiling on the deck in terms of its potential lines. Kind of like how Amulet has weird lines, Hogaak can go from a modest board to 'wait what happened' insanely fast.

We have only seen the first iterations on this.

Depends on your definition of quiet. There is no deck, in as short a frame other than Eldrazi that matches its Top 8 performances.

I will say watching this Hogaak deck, its amazing.

    Hogaak
    Bridge from Below
    Vengevine
    Bloodghast
    Carrion Feeder
    Altar
    Sticher's Supplier

The angles, and path's this deck can take, is there really anything like it ever? I dont know.

Funny comment just now from Patrick on SCG "Hogaak generates better games than Phoenix" and as someone who played a TON of phoenix, and quickly burns out on it? He's not wrong.

What was the hand/line? I'm positive that would take a Bridge+Hogaak self milling a few times.

Actually, drop the 2 Deputy, and 1 Narset from the side, 3 Trackers, and call it good there.
