mikeyG posted a message on Guardians of Meletis is Magic's first reference to homosexuality.Posted in: DebateQuote from OracAnd why should it matter?
Wizards' "intentions" or what anyone takes from it? Making a big deal out of it either way isn't needed. Whether opposite genders or the same, we should be striving to move past the point where it matters.
I do agree, but unfortunately we're absolutely not at that point yet and this certainly does matter. It's sad that a vague reference on a card most people will overlook is a big enough deal that it matters this way, but this is MtG's first step in LGBT inclusiveness and visibility is still such an issue in most facets of media that even a small token reference like this is something to celebrate.
Should we be in a place where visibility like this no longer matters? Yes, I completely agree that's the ideal. Are we in that place? No, we are very far from it. But instances like Guardians of Meletis are steps in the right direction. -

rianalnn posted a message on Closure of the GutterThis thread is about as off-the-rails as any I have ever seen here.Posted in: Community Discussion
What effort that has been made towards a civilized debate about the nature of the Gutter & its place as a part of the overall Salvation community has clearly been cast aside for what I can only describe as fevered mud wrestling. We left this thread open as a sign of faith, hoping some kind of understanding would be sought. Instead I see poor behavior being used as an excuse for even more poor behavior & a general lack of regard for the respect that should define any mature debate.
The staff will be undertaking a poll covering all the considered outcomes, & the Gutter membership will be asked to take the same poll. Based on those results, the administration will determine what the next step will be.
When a conclusive decision is made, the general community will be informed. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I was very impressed by DCIII, Rhand, and Antny, and I thought TMCT and Shockwave were both ahead of the curve as far as not being manipulated by the mafia.
Funnily enough, the semi-lurkiness that led the mafia to believe I was a power role was simply me trying to not get lynched. I tend to overplay as town day 1 and have been mislynched several times because of it.

This is the best analogy I've seen in a long time. LOVE. IT.

The silver lining: when gays' behavior is stupid, intolerant, pathetic, ignorant, cringeworthy, [insert string of pejoratives] we can a least hold them up in front of the rest of the world and say, "See? We gays really are just like you."
