Hey! This deck looks nice. I'm actually doing a very similar thing as you, modifying the precon and making Kemba my commander. Like you, I'm going for an equipment theme and a token subtheme. Anyways I was wondering you have any advice about what to take out? Thanks.

Hello everyone, after almost a year away, I would like to come back and play on MTGO. I was used to be a casual (real sucky kind of casual) but I am planning to put in more efforts to become better. I thought myself more of a control/combo kind of player, but looking at the current metagame I would like to give Midrange/Control deck a try. I hope that the card in the deck I choose could last for a little while longer, and the deck can live through metagame changes a little better than others. I would list some decks I am looking at, and my thoughts on them. Please feel free to give suggestions, and point out my errors (since I have yet to join in any matches). My current budget would be 200-250 tix, but if that proves impossible, I will consider adding a little more (30-50 tix). If my budget still seems unreasonable, please let me know.

Temur Midrange is the first one I had in mind. With the uncounterable hexproof fatties, Sarkhan (I like it more than Sorin), Rattleclaw Mystic, and so on, the deck looks really good. The problem is the deck seem to lean on more of the aggro side with very little chance to switch gear into control mode. Another thing is that the deck, although seems promising, might not be able to keep up with other decks (Temur seems a little weak compared to others). My fear is that if I invested in this deck, it will end up fizzle out. But another advantage of this deck is, it seems comparatively cheaper to build then the other decks.

Jeskai Tempo is another deck I would really like to try. One of my regrets when I stepped out of magic is not having the opportunity to play American midrange. While I find the deck very promising, current lists lean, again, on the aggro side rather than control build. I guess it is because of the current metagame. If I am playing this deck, I would really look forward to resolving an End Hostilities. The ability to switch between aggro and control is really what draws me to Jeskai decks. The downside is... the deck seems really expensive to get.

Abzan Midrange also seems very appealing to me. The Rock nature of the deck is really enticing, and seems capable of adapting to changes in the metagame. One of the downside I am seeing is that current build seems to utilize a lot of the cards from the previous cycle, this makes me very hesitant to jump in. Also as the deck is very popular, the cost for getting all the cards would be very high. I don't think I can afford this deck with just 250 tix as my budget.

Last but not least, the two Reanimator decks (Sultai and Abzan) seems very interesting too. One of my favourite creations during my early Magic life is a reanimator deck with Reya Dawnbringer and Devouring Strossus. I am not sure the difference of strength and weaknesses between these two reanimator decks, and would like to hear your opinion on this. The two Reanimator decks, while not very popular, is currently my highest pick if I am going to have fun. But I feel I am walking in blind, knowing not much about them. Are they well-positioned in the current metagame? Will they be very expensive to assemble? Is there anything I need to know if I am to choose reanimator decks as my way to come back?

My apologies for the wall of text. As you can see I have a lot in my mind and am not very sure what to decide. I am sure I am missing or am wrong at a million things, and I look forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts. Thanks for reading!

    Here's the deal:
Abzan Midrange and Jeskai Tempo are the two dominant decks in standard right now. Jeskai Tempo isn't too expensive, but Abzan Midrange is, considering it plays many of the best cards in standard.

I dunno about Temur and reanimator, I can imagine Temur being pretty good, and not too hard to make control-y. As someone who formally played mono black midrange (not devotion), I can say that whip of erebos is a very strong card, and I dunno how a reanimator deck built around it would do but it seems like at worst, it would be okay. I would look into to it more and play test it before you invest though.

My recommendation? Jeskai control. My friend briefly ran that, and went a respectable 3-1 at FNM. It's yer standard
Control deck, running counter spells like dissolve, dissipate, etc, removal like banishing light and end hostilities. Rabblemaster is a surprisingly good card in that deck, so I would run that and some other creatures.

    Underworld Savior 2BBW
    Creature - Zombie Warrior (R)
At your end step, you may sacrifice Underworld Savior. If so, flip a coin and return a target creature from your graveyard to the battlefield. If the coin lands on heads, return Underworld Savior to the battlefield under your control. It gains haste until the end of the turn.

Whenever Shadow Ninja becomes blocked, roll a six-sided die. If you roll a four of higher, remove the blocking creature from combat.

Why would you not just flip a coin if it's 50/50?

Oh that didn't occur to me :p
