Silkscale the Wingless
(G) Legendary Creature - Dragon (R)
Morph - Reveal a green card from your hand
You may not pay Silkscale the Wingless' morph cost unless an opponent controls a creature with flying.
Creatures you control have reach.
Creatures with flying opponents control can’t block creatures without flying you control. Envious of his own kind, he made his life’s mission to take vengeance on those who soar the skies which are now lost to him.
7/7
General speaking I'm not hard and fast about the times, I jsut close submissions the morning after when I wake up. However, right now your entry is illegal as 7/7 was already used. I'm putting your name on the list to participate but you need to fix it.Change it fast for the judging phase, otherwise don't expect folks to put you in there top three.
Judge the five names after yours, wrapping around if you run out. Pick a top three and post it here. You have until Sunday Night, Midnight US EST. Good luck!
The Krampus4WB
Legendary Creature - Demon (M)
Intimidate
Whenever a creature deals damage to you, put a naughty counter on it. 2WB: Exile target creature with a naughty counter on it until The Krampus leaves the battlefield. "Be nice this season, unless you wish to find out what the inside of my basket looks like..."
7/6
Make it a 6/6 And I'd totally be on board. As it, seems pushed compared to halo hunter.
The Grinch2UB
Legendary Creature - Horror (R) T: Gain control of target snow permanent. “Pop guns! And bicycles! Roller skates! Drums!
Checkerboards! Tricycles! Popcorn! And plums!
And he stuffed them in bags. Then the Grinch, very nimbly,
Stuffed all the bags, one by one, up the chimbley!” -Dr. Seuss
3/3
Great reference. Simple, elegent card. I didn;t realize toys were snow permanents though. Flavor misstep for me. Very powerful in a snow environment. Too much so. Add a cost to that ability.
White Elephant3WW
Legendary Snow Creature - Elephant
Trample.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player exiles the top card of his or her library face down.
Whenever a player would draw a card, they may instead exile the top card of his or her library face down. If they do, they may look at any cards exiled face down in this way and cast a spell exiled in this way as though it was in their hand.
4/4
"Oh. Wow. You shouldn't have."
Eh. I missing the reference. It's a good card, but misses out on the un without the flavor for me. Perhaps my fault more than yours. Also, rarity.
Missile Toad
Creature - Frog (U)
As long as Missile Toad is on the ceiling it is unblockable.
Whenever a player plays a creature without kissing it, Missile Toad deals 3 damage to that player.
“Them’s the Rules”
3/2
Funny play on words. The hijinks of trying to keep on the ceiling, while funny, seem impractical. In fact, likely to get someone hurt, sadly. Neat idea in general though besides that one practical factor.
...silver border??? Does that mean we can use weird un mechanics or what?
Sounds fun.
Rabid Snowman2GG
Creature - Elemental (R)
Trample
Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, put a -1/-1 counter on Rabid Snowman. U, T: Remove a -1/-1 counter from Rabid Snowman.
5/5
I get that the snowman is melting. I like using blue mana to rebuild it. I'm confused why you decided to sculpt this as a green card or why instants and sorceries are what melt it.
Goblin Carolers2R
Creature - Goblin Singer (R)
Haste
Whenever you are not singing a Christmas carol, untap Goblin Carolers and target opponent gains control of it. "Songs of the... Wuzzename, um, yeah.. waitamintue, something.. is here... em, merry merry merry Christmas?"
5/5
This seems exactly what I would expect from a Xmas unglued set.
This is a month long contest with a minimum of 4 rounds. Each round, you will be given a selection of options to pick from. You must pick exactly one option, one "element", from each list in a given round. You then design your card, and submit it as you would in any other thread.
But there's a catch.
As soon as an entry is submitted, the "Elements" that player used are then off limits and will be crossed of the list. Futhermore, if all the elements are used up in the round, no more entries can be submitted.
At the end of the entry period (about 3-4 days or when all the elements are used) peer judging will be used, where you will judge 5 other participants based on order of submission. You must judge the card as submitted, without credence or care that they may have had less options then other players. Only the end result matters. You make a top 3 list, with the the winner receiving 3 points, 2nd 2, and 3rd 1. Over the month the points are tailed with the winner announced each month. You will be given 2 days. If you are delinquent in judging, you will be disqualified from the round. You may participate in as many or few rounds as you wish each month. However, if your are disqualified more than once in a month, you are ineligible for that month.
Feel free to discuss the rules and goings on with EoC here!
Thanks for playing! I know this round was a smaller, in part due to the Holiday. Expect a main Elements of Creation thread to be posted shortly with the monthly results!
Redeemed Archangel4GWW
Legendary Creature — Angel (M)
Flying
At the beginning of your upkeep, distribute four +1/+1 counters among any number of target creatures. “I thought my torment was due to the world not accepting who I declared myself to be, but then I realized it was due to me not accepting the world for what it was created to be.”
4/4
You did take a very distinct evolutionary direction here, and I think it reads well. I am always open to interpretation/alternate reality versions of cards and this fits the bill quite nicely. It plays with +1/+1 counters while dipping into green for the shear number, and comes equipped with the standard 4/4 flying angel body. It's quite elegant, and I can see it appealing to most types of players. My only strike against it is it doesn't feel quite as mythic as the original. By making it's ability only trigger during your own upkeep, it loses some of the grandiose nature my version had, despite the scaling up of counters. It would have to be balanced differently of course, but I can't quite put my finger on it why it just doesn't feel quite as mythic to me. Maybe it just feels more fair at it's cost. Regardless, it's a minor complaint.
Imperial Crow3RW
Legendary Creature — Bird (M)
Flying, indestructible
When Imperial Crow enters the battlefield, you may have it fight target creature. “It guided me home. Now may its light defend all the empire and its citizens as faithfully and strongly as it protected me.”
—Emperor Jimmu
4/3
This is a very different direction from all the other entries. It certainly takes evolution to a different place, making it feel like a pretty distinct creature. You justify it's status as a fighting capable crow in the flavor text, but it still feels perhaps one step too far away from the original. If I just looked at the cards mechanically without names and flavor I probably wouldn't associate the two, and I feel that's important for this challenge. Despite that, it is a very playable card that takes the fight mechanic to the extreme. It's certainly a pushed card. I'd play it. I like what's it trying to do. Not quite sure thats it's fair.
Ujol Stormfang2RR
Legendary Creature — Elemental Wolf (M)
Haste
Whenever Ujol Stormfang attacks, it deals 2 damage to defending player and each creature he or she controls.
Whenever Ujol Stormfang blocks, it deals 2 damage to attacking player and each creature he or she controls. Its fury is lightning. Its cry is thunder.
2/2
It's interesting that you choose to abondon the vigilance the original had but still include both an attack and block trigger. I felt that was an important interaction based on the original, but you do pull it off in this version in a way I still think works. It would certainly be pushed with vigilance at 4, even with the multicolor. I like how much it hurts, and the choice of attacking a defending to gain the benefit is nice, though I think more often attacking would be the prefrence of the deck this would go into. Very spikey, but so was your last card. Overall a solid entry.
You took some risks with non obvious answers in evolving the cards. I approve. I think it's important to challenge what's expected in design. Also, I believe for the most part your strategy worked. Good job.
Emperor's Blackwing4RBW
Legendary Creature - Bird {M}
Indestructible
When Emperor's Blackwing enters the battlefield, return up to two target creature cards from your graveyard to the battlefield. Those creatures gain indestructible, and they gain haste until end of turn.
If Emperor's Blackwing or a creature put onto the battlefield with it would leave the battlefield, instead exile it and all creatures put onto the battlefield with it.
2/2
That's a scary bird. It certainly just screams "more power" versus the original. The last clause makes this card feel sloppier then it needed to be. It just feels clunky in general. Then there is the power level of this thing. I get 3 indestructible creatures for 7? Even with the whole getting rid of all three if you can kill the bird, it's a rather large barrier to cross. Feeding the graveyard for a card like this wouldn't be hard either. The way I see this going down is, unless you've already lost when you cast this, you should win. I don't like that.
Artorius the Liberator3RW
Legendary Creature - Human {M}
At the beginning of your upkeep, for each Equipment you control, put a 1/1 red and white Soldier creature token with haste onto the battlefield. You may attach that Equipment to that creature. The ruler of one kingdom swiftly became the ruler of many.
4/4
Nice idea here. I'm a fan of making token bodies for equipment and it's implemented well here. It also solves one of the challenges of making an equipment heavy deck (what about the creatures to equip them?) It does lose the raw power boost the original gave in exchange for tokens, which feels more equivalent then an evolution, but still, it's interesting enough I don't view it harshly. It seems quite fair too while feeling mythic. Of your designs, this one I like the most.
Lucied the Scornful3WWW
Legendary Creature - Angel {M}
Flying
At the beginning of each upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on Lucied the Scornful. 1WW, Remove X +1/+1 counters from Lucied the Scornful: Destroy each other creature with converted mana cost X. "If you think you're greater than me, let's just see how great you really are. Perish!"
4/4
Well, it makes sense as an evolution. It's not particularly inspired, but it's reasonable. Killing stuff is certainly a sensible direction to take this in, though it feels strange for me for the character to be giving up power to slay others. Balance/design wise sure that works, flavor wise this makes Vorthos sad. Speaking of making Vorthos sad, that flavor text sounds...immature. It's not the diction I would expect for a character inspired or derived from Lucifier (minus maybe telling folks to perish!) Overall I don't dislike it persay, but it really doesn't do anything for me either.
Not the strongest showing I've seen from you this month, but there are some respectable ideas. The Angel is decent and Arthur is a strong entry but the crow is both overclocked and crude.
Artorius, The Lionhearted3WW
Legendary Creature - Human (M)
Vigilance
As long as Artorius, The Lionhearted is equipped, treat other creatures you control as though that equipment were attached to them. "My men are my pride, in every sense"
4/4
I liked this idea a lot. In fact I had the same idea as initial idea for my evolution of the card too. However, I choose to nix the idea for several reasons, which I could not work around and feel appear in your version of the card too.
1: The proper wording is difficult to determine. I don't think you solved this problem, and it becomes apparent especially because...
2: Some equipment don't interact with the ability properly. Take Konda's Banner for example.
3: Assuming it did work, it limits design space for equipment. Cards like Konda's Banner are one potential example.
4: It's not a strict improvement over the original card. Sharing the equipment between men gives a ton of added benefits over bravelion83's original card to be sure, but it doesn't include the base P/T of the creature.
Like I said, I do like the idea but I don't feel these problems have been solved. One or two of these things might be reasonable issues but all together it's too much and why I didn't submit a card with that effect myself. The flavor of the card however is on point and quite good.
The Angel of Retribution3WW
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Flying
At the beginning of each upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on The Angel of Retribution.
As long as The Angel of Retribution is in your graveyard, at the beginning of each upkeep, you may pay 1B. If you do, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. "You did not revere me in life. But you will fear me in death."
3/3
As pointed out, R&D doesn't like the idea of +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters in the same environment. Also, as an "evolution" this is disappointing for me. It gets a bigger body to start, but otherwise it's the same card unless it's the graveyard, in which case it gets a slow creature kill ability option. Meh. That and the flavor justifications of this being an evolution of Lucifer (my original being before the fall) doesn't make much sense to me. You are the only one who brings black into the equation, I'll grant you that, but the whole post mortim ability as evolution doesn't really jive with the character or the concept of a persona either.
Ujol, the Gathering Storm3RGW
Legendary Creature - Elemental Wolf
Vigilance, haste
Whenever Ujol, the Gathering Storm attacks, put a token copy of it onto the battlefield attacking.
Whenever Ujol, the Gathering Storm blocks a creature, put a token copy it onto the battlefield blocking that creature.
The "legend rule" doesn't apply to Ujol, the Gathering Storm. Clouds and wolves always travel in packs.
2/2
So you turned Ujol into a super Gemini Engine. I'm ok with that. It's deceptively powerful in that it can make so many copies pretty quickly, and it doesn't matter if you kill the original. That's kinda neat, and with a prohibitive enough cost/body I think it's ok. The legend rule clause, while needed, does take away from the simplicity of the design. I like the direction here you took the best out of your entries, but it still suffers in elegance/execution a bit.
There were certainly good ideas in your designs, but they suffered in execution. While Your Arthur and Ujol variant I can respect, your angel card leaves me wanting.
1: bravelion83 2: aftermarketradio
3: RaikouRider
bravlion83 was the clear winner out of the three for me, but aftermarketradio and RaikouRider was a tiebreaker. A tiebreaker for me always leans towards creativity, so while I feel RaikouRiders entries overall were more polished, aftermarketradio's pushed more boundaries. Very close between the two of you.
Drag to the DepthsUB
Instant (C)
Target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of islands and swamps you control.
Sorry, that just crossed my mind. as for Sea LIFE.
Belly Home Whale5UU
Creature - Whale (R)
Islandwalk
Creatures attacking you get -X/-0, where X is the number of islands you control.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay X, where X is the number of islands you control. If you don't, return ~ to your hand.
5/5
Will of the ConclaveGGGG
Creature - Elemental (R)
Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature's color.)
Spend only mana produced by creatures to cast Will of the Conclave. "By the power of our voices combined, Vitu-Ghazi will be defended."
8/8
A 8/8 Elemental has already been done. Please modify your entry.
Pressure Strike Adept1W
Creature - Human Monk (C) Awareness - Whenever a player casts a spell, you may tap this untapped creature. If you do, target creature can't attack or block this turn. She watches for the precise moment where they reveal their inner weakness.
2/2
Ageless Wish Ponderer2U
Creature - Djinn Wizard (U) Awareness - Whenever a player casts a spell, you may tap this untapped creature. If you do, draw a card. I once thought I'd spend eternity granting wishes. Now I just contemplate what to wish for.
2/3
Dragon's Breath Firebird2RR
Creature - Phoenix (R)
Flying Awareness - Whenever a player casts a spell, you may tap this untapped creature. If you do, put a rebirth counter on it.
When ~ dies, if it had a rebirth counter on it, return it onto the battlefield under it's owners control. It deals 3 damage to target creature or player. I shall live until I see the dragon's flame once more.

Awareness - Whenever a player casts a spell, you may tap this untapped creature. If you do, put a rebirth counter on it.
When ~ dies, if it had a rebirth counter on it, return it onto the battlefield under it's owners control. It deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
I shall live until I see the dragon's flame once more.

IIW: cards that HATE something
Elements of Creation
Welcome to Elements of Creation.

When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search you library for a card named Team of Reindeer, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
A deck can have up to 8 cards named Team of Reindeer.
The elves sent them the singnal. Soon, there would be enough to deliver a worlds worth of gifts.
