If it ever took off it would have to sideboard to counter the obvious 1x Gaea's Blessing sideboard hate plan... I'm loving this though. And I'd hate to see what it could do in Vintage. Shadowmoor has brought this Johnny back to the fold after the long comboless winter of Lorwyn/Morningtide...

I like Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic. It's like 8-bit Theatre ... with art (good art too!) The same guy has also done a Doctor Who webcomic which is great fun.

Calling all pirated media "lost income" makes an assumption that, in the absence of a free illegal option, the punter would be purchasing that media, no questions asked.

This fails to take into account the fact that many people download things that they wouldn't spend money on.

"Well, I wouldn't pay money for that CD, but downloading it free off the Interwebs? Why not?"

Thus I propose that the loss figures given by the RIAA and others are inflated by a huge and impossible to estimate margin from the actual financial loss.

On a personal note, my CD buying habits are pretty much unchanged by the internet. If I actually want something I want it now, not three days from now on a torrent ;p

Batman would win, because he was prepared. C.f. The Dark Knight Returns.

A hasty and blind-with-rage Soops vs. a Batman expecting an attack from Superman and with time to prepare? No contest.

Inexplicably, BSG is released on dvd not as full seasons, but as half-seasons. In order to have the complete season two, you'd have to buy the 2.0 and 2.5 boxsets (the first and second halves of that respective season).

Ah, I see. The same is not true in my country; we can get the whole season in one box. And Season 3 is out here already (i.e. sitting on a table to my left) - and I'd be very surprised if we had it before more northerly climes did. Although if SlideGob truly lives in Antarctica that could explain it. Grin
We have to buy the X-Files in half-seasons, though. Such is life.

    I don't think so.

Also, I believe he brought up the "Drug kingdoms, populated by illiterate people and ruled by cruel dictators" as another excuse we could use to invade.

Otherwise, there really wouldn't be much of a debate.
    Its really this:
Whose fault is it that people are cutting down the trees?
    Answer:
Not the United States of America.

WHAT?! A world problem NOT caused by the USA!? Unheard of!

Oh, oh, wait, I can still parse this.

    Unsustainable exploitation of Amazon rainforest
    caused by
    Economic Privation
    caused by
World Bank and generally unfair economic policy
    caused by
    USA

Phew, that was a close one!

Yes. The point is, its a lot easier to do what you want to do when you are famous and have means. Sell out a bit, and then once you have the attention of a wide audience, go your own way.
I give the example of Kylie Minogue. She started out pre-sold out, singing saccharine pop songs which were written for her, and with no creative control. Later on, when she had matured a lot, she started to write her own songs and explore creatively, often producing material that was unpopular with fans and critics. Eventually, she reached the point where her popularity exploded again to its previous levels or more, but this time with her own material and on her own terms.

I hate people who are mean to "servers" or treat them with disrespect. This even annoys me as a customer when other people do it. Just because someone is serving you food doesn't give anyone the right to treat them like dirt. They are probably only doing it to pay the bills while they finish their PhD thesis in something you can't even pronounce.

I'd also like to say that the American system of paying less than minimum wage and filling the rest out with tips is despicable, should be completely illegal, and is everywhere else (unless tipping is made completely compulsory, in which case they are more like a surcharge). Disregarding the obvious gender bias, whereby females make 3 times as much as males due to horny male patrons, regardless of skill or personality, its just a channel for greedy chains that won't even fork out minimum wage to support the people who work for them. No

  • posted a message on New Theory on Dark Matter, The expansion of the Universe, and Time
    Quote from Sobek
Isn't this just more confirmation of a big freeze? Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't absolute zero = stopped time? At least under general relativity. So I guess just chalk this up as more evidence that the universe is slowing down.

But it raises the intriguing possibility that the expansion of the Universe itself (and consequently, the Big Bang theory) is an illusion. What if the Universe has been around forever and the illusion of expansion has been created by Time slowing down?

As Time has no theoretical maximum speed that we know of, this process could have been going on forever. And continue going on forever (as Time could get slower and slower in ever smaller increments without ever stopping.)

However, without knowing more about the nature of Time we can't know.

Astronomists who have theories are important. And this is quite an impressive display of lateral thinking. When you think about it, there is no less proof of this guy's idea than the conventional idea. There is no reason to regard Time as a constant...we already know it isn't. This theory may be testable on some level though...I don't know how though. It would be a revolutionary discovery if true...the scientific model of the Universe would have to be redrawn...again.

No seriously, I wouldn't because I don't carry cash. I haven't seen a coin or note in two years. Hard times coming for beggars with no smart card.

I think Santa takes this hands down. According to These figures, to be able to do his job on Christmas Eve, St Nick has the technology to travel at 650 miles per second, carrying 321,300 tons of toys and protect himself from the G force and air resistance of such a speed.
The chances of him not be able to wipe the floor with a big fish, a monkey and some guys wearing tinfoil are remote.

Quoted for truth. Also, I've seen Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and guess what? Santa beats aliens.
