No, it's pretty clear Irencrag loses its abilities. Besides, they wouldn't make an equipment that taps for mana.

    The Crag loses its abilities.
    It says
If you do, it gains equip 3 and "Equipped creature gets +3/+3" and loses all other abilities.

Expressed more generally: "If you do, it gains [ability] and [second ability] and loses all other abilities."

The "loses all other abilities" is outside the quotation marks for the second ability.

then that’s the most poor wording I have ever seen atleast I’m not the only one who made the mistake

Nope, it's actually about the only way to word this short of making it a DFC. A DFC would probably have been a cleaner solution but I don't see them doing it as a one off.

If it weren't for Scam I could definitely see Candy Trail in Modern with Urza and/or Emry.

That one point of toughness sure makes a difference. Enough of a difference to justify the extra 1m? Probably not in an archetype that's happy functioning on 2 lands but I guess we will see. Being bolt proof is a nice thing.

How on earth was Utopia Sprawl a $5 card? Pauper? I would have thought even there that supply outstrips demand by a wide margin?

There's more demand than just Pauper. Any enchantress deck in Legacy, Modern, or EDH (assuming you're playing green) is going to be playing it. Plus, in Modern it is the hardest turn 1 mana accelerant to interact with, especially if you put it on a basic forest, as Prismatic Ending and Portable Hole are really about the only commonly played ways to answer it on curve, so it's a very reliable accelerant as long as you are playing mostly forests. It also benefits from the fact that there's not really a substitute for it, as in 30 years of Magic sets, it and Wild Growth are the only 2 one-drop enchantment ramp cards, which means that if you want to build a deck in any format Sprawl is legal that wants ramp and cares about enchantments, it's about as close to an auto-include as you can get.

Well, that was quite a thorough explanation, thank you. Smile

As an Enchantress player I probably should have realized this.

Leaked early but already have the cheapest option I could find you can do a total of 4R with Shrieking Mogg to tap everything for 15+ cards

    More known options include

How do you figure 15+ cards?

how many creatures usually in play from a 4 player table

Okay, that's probably a fair average but it's such a wide range, could be anywhere from 0 to too many on any given turn. I don't think the draw would be anywhere near as reliable as a good number of better options?

On Apprentice's Folly: As someone pointed out recently, Sagas with undesirable chapter 3s make great bargain food, and this also makes bargain food and ETB triggers. This feels like something Grixis bargain could definitely use.

Speaking of Grixis bargain, that Virtue is a rather nice piece of cardboard too.

Ah yes the counterspell with set mechanic of the set. These tend to come in two different flavours (1CC with bonus effect, or counterspell if you jump through hoops).

I was not high on the Foretell one (the last I recall from group B) but I know some people played it to good effect. This I think will be something I try to find a home for.

As part of the liking it a lot camp I'm actually constantly surprised that control players aren't higher on this card. A nice mana sink, extra draws at all kinds of lovely moments, cast Absorb as a cantrip, cast Lightning Helix as a cantrip.

I've played it in Standard, Historic and Commander all to good effect.

The new art makes me smile.

It was, at least for a while, some of the best ongoing draw in white. I've played it to great effect in standard and historic.

The body is nice but 2 draw a card off of Absorb or Lightning Helix is quite welcome.

Mods - I had a browser issue where I thought this pust got eaten by the interwebs. Apologies for the double post.

Let me get this straight intruder alarm which is notorious for nearly countless infinite combos in commander particularly Slivers and Chulane is gonna be legal in historic

But spreading seas is day one banned in historic?

Merfolk seems to be a perfectly fine deck in Historic and probably doesn't need the extra help?

So, and I'm probably super slow on the uptake here but Bargain is the new batching mechanic?
yes, seems to me like a version of exploit but more prone to blow-outs by countermagic, dress down etc. much better in more confined environment where you will get additional value from something going into the graveyard which this set will probably be. i can imagine this will result from a lot of missed triggers from less experienced players. judges at prerelease will have quite a lot of work.

Yes, but given that we have kicker in standard right now this is just more of the same but more specific kicker costs, really shouldn't be much more work for judges.

Fury is a messed up Magic card. It's also a card that isn't from the hot new set they are trying to sell a Brazillion units of, so no, Ring & Bowmasters (also messed up Magic cards) have precisely a 0% chance of being banned.

    Sell your Fury's, I think.

The funniest thing about it all is, I think Bowmasters can't be banned b/c it was apparently designed a safety valve for One Ring in Standard. (Too bad they're both still way too good?! lol.)

I have really only been looking at stats lately and not play patterns but is Fury really the worst of them? Statistically speaking it's far from the most popular incarnation. It feels like Grief into Feign Death is the stronger play pattern?

not really. For grief the issue is only with opening hand with those two cards and it still relatively slow clock. fury is problematic in both early game as fast clock and late game when it provides x-for-1 advantage, clock and attacker. But mainly the issue is that it provides enormous advantage against creature based decks if they commit to the board virtually anything.
Frankly all incarnations are atrocious designs that led to invalidating most of decks not playing them.

This makes sense, thank you. I'd sort of had the sense that the format was too fast to care about Fury even before the incarnations. Amulet Titan has meant the format had a turn two clock long before MH2 so 4 damage doesn't feel consequential all the time. But I can see how banning Fury could open up room for Humans or Elves.
