"6) A dinosaur with name equal to its creature types"
    "Dinosaur Elder" maybe

    Or, The Dinosaur God
I think the is an allowable variance here.

I have a feeling it might be Traps. The latest email teaser, if it wasn't a dead giveaway or a sleek distraction, sort of hints at Traps being the "popular mechanic" being remade. Attached for reference and highlighted by my own effort.

But overall I didn't think Traps were that popular, at least not compared to, say, Landfall and Quests.

my culprit list is between Cascade, Quest counters, and Traps

so yea its very possible. plus thats a mechanic it can definitely get a different way to trigger the traps other than meeting a condition.

Doesn't a trap still appear in some builds of Amulet Titan? I think of so, then this is a popular mechanic.

that would be a yes if amulet Titan ocastionally uses them.

I was able to find it on the list of several builds over the last few years but I'm not sure what the threshold is. Obviously it's a sideboard option against control at best.

my issue is that the wording they chose looks like normal english sentence. cool but may be confusing because it does not stand out like cursived keywords we have on other cards. i would prefer to not deliberately make already complex game even more complex if possible.

Further to that though, I'm not at all sure the original complaint has any merit, there's precedence for this. In Zendikar we call it Landfall in the rest of the multiverse it's "whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control". Names are specifically linked to contexts all the dang time.

The word "landfall" has no mechanical significance. There is no card that can care about landfall, because it doesn't have any inherent meaning in the rules. It's just a signifier for the reader.

"Making a villainous choice" on the other hand is a proper mechanic that can be (and is) referenced mechanically on other cards. That means the same card will have the same oracle wording even when it is reprinted out of context. Landfall (and other pseudo-keywords) can be omitted from the oracle text without changing the function of the card.

So, no, it is not precedence.

Both of these are valid, I concede my previous point and tip my hat to both of you.

Actually, this was reversed later; today, "Landfall" can be used anywhere.

Interesting, do you have a source for that? I had thought we had seen a landfall card as recently as Neon Dynasty(?) that didn't get a keyword...

I do know that cards never intended for Standard they use all the keywords all the time but I had thought that the big 4 seasonal Standard sets they didn't due to not being relevant enough in the Standard/Limited environments.

So we use different templating now for UB cards?

Man, UB sounds better and better as time moves on.

Creative has, to their credit, been trying to listen to players' critiques of UB (beyond the usual "it stinks") and making it feel distinctly different from regular sets. That's a challenge, but also ends up being good for the sets, because like with Horizons, they get to think outside the box they normally have to design for.

Reprint of a card I want in the set I dislike the most.... damn.

    Quit reading my mind

But even so, wouldn't the existence of another printing reduce the cost on the existing (and very pretty) copies?

I get that what I'm about to say is a"flaw" inherent to the game - the old 15 squirrels in a trenchcoat problem..

But, Adipose Offspring being 2/2s, the Star Whale only being an 8/8 and Frost Fish being 9 toughness worth of body really highlights the body scaling issues.

But, that being said, I love the use of Emerge to capture a great episode.

When it comes to P/T, you always must look cards in a vacuum, it's an error to compare them to other cards, or the flavor inevitably fails. Same with mechanics, Go to the throat it's perfectly fine flavor-wise until you realise that it can kill also stuff like Headless Rider if you look on cards in Magic history, and flavor fails again.

But to me, that's not at all a bug of the game, but a feature, exposing the flavor fails are exactly what makes this game infinitely more funny to comment with friends while playing, assuring a laugh to everyone Smile

    That's 100% valid.

They aren't robots. They're a sapient, sentient race. They just hate everything with a homicidal passion. The Doctor had a dilemma about committing genocide. It's what the Daleks would do, after all.

And they had been shown to be quite pitiful in many ways and potentially worthy of rehabilitation. The fact that their previous conflict had led to mutual genocide also weighed heavily on the Doctor.

IS this modern legal? In all cases, that rohirrim charger can be really nasty with a single worldslayer in your deck...

Since worldslayer blows up your stuff too wouldn't Kaldra Compleat be better?

Instant-speed Divination, AND it's flavored (deliberately or not) after one of the best scenes from The Sword in the Stone. Yeah, I like this card a lot.

The Song was in the previews, and it's good finisher for this Limited archetype's rat decks.

Now if only Quick Study drew 1 more cars and cost 2 less. /S

I'll be playing Quick Study for sure.

No, it's pretty clear Irencrag loses its abilities. Besides, they wouldn't make an equipment that taps for mana.

    The Crag loses its abilities.
    It says
If you do, it gains equip 3 and "Equipped creature gets +3/+3" and loses all other abilities.

Expressed more generally: "If you do, it gains [ability] and [second ability] and loses all other abilities."

The "loses all other abilities" is outside the quotation marks for the second ability.

then that’s the most poor wording I have ever seen atleast I’m not the only one who made the mistake

Nope, it's actually about the only way to word this short of making it a DFC. A DFC would probably have been a cleaner solution but I don't see them doing it as a one off.

Could also have been "you may have it become a legendary equipment artifact with [abilities] named [name]. If you do, it loses all other abilities." Not sure if that's all that much clearer.

Aside, since we're discussing syntax anyway, couldn't it have just said it becomes an equipment? I thought a new subtype would only overwrite other subtypes without needing to specify the type and supertype again.

I think you are functionally right but it would be quite confusing to many players. The current version is verbose but clear.

The dread knight is clearly based on the green knight and that bad boy is very very testable outside standard

I tried Tenacious Underdog in Modern, and the guy either cost 4 mana (and 2 life) whenever I wanted a card or my opponent often didn't take the 2-drop bait for turns straight. While at least Mosswood Dreadknight lets you get a card for 2 mana (and 1 life), it runs into the same "opponent won't take the bait" problem as Tenacious Underdog. I'm sadly skeptical about the Dreadknight making it into Modern as a result.

If it weren't for Scam I could definitely see Candy Trail in Modern with Urza and/or Emry.

I can see those artifact-heavy Underworld Breach decks with Emry try Candy Trail. I'm personally trying Candy Trail in Green Tron due to its The One Ring being a huge life hog and Green Tron sometimes mulliganing to hell, so any cheap scry, cantrip, and life gain helps, especially if I can tutor for it with Urza's Saga.

I'd been thinking about Tron too, hadn't even thought about the Saga interaction and it seemed good.
