I need to work on the lands here, but otherwise I consider this deck build 'done'. Also, i will no longer be referencing the 3 year old deck that is currently on the original post, and shifting to this one. I feel this list is more robust, successful, and consistent; where as the list on the original post is dated, incredibly incosistent; and the original designer no longer supports/updates his build.
Strategy is simple: play cantrip artifacts until you hit a cost reducer to make stuff free; then establish a draw engine of some sort, then storm for the win.
My first thought upon seeing the storm deck has Basalt Monolith/Grim Monolith/Mana Vault is why not run Power Artifact adding the potential for infinite mana. Granted I don't really understand storm that much aside from my general dislike of running into it in modern. But, at least to me, it seems like a sound competitive addition.
Also out of general curiosity what does Mishra add to the storm variation. I don't see any of the interactions that once drew me to the deck. While my knowledge of legendary creatures is somewhat lacking, as it stands I can't help but feel that there is probably a better fit for that commander slot.
As someone who's local edh meta includes mono red goblins and mono white tokens spreading plague is probably the most entertaining card to drop on the field.
Friday I had a friend somehow forget his decks as he was rushing out the house. He was like "Anyone got a deck I can borrow that different?" I replied "Define different." He said something "You know like not just blind aggro or control." So I lent him Mishra. I have to admit watching someone else play the deck taught me quite a bit. His decks tend to be more aggro, while I tend to lean more towards control. So watching an aggro player's thought process and some of the choices he made. I mean I never would have seen some of them. It was enlightening.
If someone asks you what your win condition is, the correct answer is always killer robots.
Touche
But yeah usually I wont cast Lattice unless I have the forge on the field to protect it. But this time around I also had Ice Cave in my hand so I figured I would take the chance with how the game was going. Sadly it did not pay off.
I stick to Tom Ross's list with minor changes
Replaced one Swamp with Funeral Charm
I played about 70 matches on xmage and maintain a 70% matches winrate
Played 5 games against Eldrazi, won all of them, though there were mainly pre Pro Tour variants
This is what I run except I still have Necrogen Mists holding the spot for my Lili's. But I will add that my local meta was heavily over taken by Grixis Control (literally like if there were 18 players, 10 would be running that deck) so my deck usually did pretty poor as of late. Admittedly haven't played the deck in over a month out of general frustration and people harassing me over the bridges I cycle in and out of my deck.
I don't doubt that Lili's wouldn't help me with that match up considerably (as she would provide another potential kill spell) but I can't rationalize the price. Particularly now that she has spiked yet again -_-*
Well I got completely destroyed by a Mizzix of the Izmagnus deck yesterday. Like the game was going poorly in my favor but I was still holding my own. Turn 6 I dropped a Mycosynth Lattice on the field to try and even out my mana based (and potentially help a friend's mana base as well as he was drawing poor land drops) The Mizzix player cast High Tide followed by a Shattering Spree and cleared both our fields except for my lattice. -_-* Game was over at that point. A turn later he somehow set up infinite turns. But on the flip side he traded me a foil Japanese Possibility Storm so that was pretty cool
Also Also So apparently this deck has caused a few players some distress as of late. One in particular has specifically built a R/U counter/control deck. And by that I mean his objective is to counter everything he can and steal or copy anything of use of mine. He explicitly told me he built it to prey on my deck.
Friday he used Acquire to take my Blightsteel and then somehow flashed it back to take my Darksteel Forge. Telling me that it was half of my "infinite combo." So I Cyclonic Rift(ed) the field. And then cast Praetor's Grasp, took his original Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and cast it the next turn with Lightning Greaves on the field. And the next I hardcast Blightsteel and equipped the Greaves. He never quite recovered.
Seems like good swap outs, that said, Semblance Anvil can be fun in this deck if you have the extra card advantage and dont need a certain card in hand as bad as all that mana reduction can help you. Its an allstar card in a Mishra-Storm build.
Great story btw, must've felt great to have your opponent tutor FOR you
Ahh ok thank you for the explanation. That's how I thought it would work but I wasn't 100% sure. I wanted to check since earlier that Friday I lost a modern game to a Grishoalbrand Deck. I didn't know at what point was the correct step to respond to a trigger, I took a guess and turned out to be wrong. And yeah him tutoring for me was pretty funny.
Last week I was playing a guy with my Mishra deck. he was playing some mono black reanimation deck. He asked me, with a snarky tone, if I minded quick games? I was like honestly I'm not a fan of them. He then asked what kind of deck I was running. I told him that I would answer after the match. He kept pushing and told me his was combo and that it usually went off turn 4. He was like "So now that you know what I'm running I'll ask again, what is yours?" I responded "Chaos" and dropped Possibility Storm on the field. He did finally beat me but it took him a solid hour to get together what he needed to do it. (I kept him locked out from his combo with Portcullis but at the cost of my inability to play creatures of my own.) Afterwards he asked me "So what the hell is the win condition that deck." I told him that I didn't really think there was any one win condition, it kinda just comes together only sometimes it doesn't. To which he told me that wasn't a good response. I then asked him "Would have prefer I said Chaos again?" with a smile and he vocally was like "ugh" and stormed off.
Later a friend told me that he was telling some people near the store entrance about how I wasted his time. All I could do was laugh.
Ice Cave + Mycosynth Lattice + Mana (unwinding clock or infinite combo) = counter all opponents spells. They cannot counter yours due to mishra's ability if you stack your triggers properly.
Ok seeing as how I have all the needed pieces, please tell me exactly how would this be done cause I sometimes have trouble with triggers on the stack.

Certainly an interesting and creative tech choice, I like it a lot. Personally if I was going after their lands I'd Spreading Seas them... or, you know, whatever the black card for that is (has been brought up before). I still think I'll wait for the meta to adjust and police itself at least a little bit but I imagine Affinity and Infect will be more problematic, in that order, so I'm dusting off my set of Disfigures for sideboarding purposes. Anyway, I digress. Painter's Servant seems a very cool way to tackle the Eldrazi problem.
The cards you may be thinking of are Evil Presence and Contaminated Ground. I've been playing around with them in an MBC Devotion deck prior to the recent Pro Tour. I haven't had much chance to test against the current colorless Eldrazi builds, but I used them to nasty effect against the Black Eldrazi decks, typically losing to either mana screw or mana flood. Otherwise, life was pretty good. I have no doubt that 8Rack can be tweaked to take advantage of this, as they also manage to hit the Wastes that Blood Moon misses.
I mean on one hand its kinda neat since it officially makes 8rack more expensive then my B/U mill deck. (They were pretty even for a long time)
What brought it about? Is it the eldrazi? I can understand Bridge but if so, why Urborg as well?
BTW guys, Painter's Servant works pretty well for us against Eldrazi. It turns off Temple and Eye and Even Ancient Stirrings! I wanted to mention something - Eldrazi is obsoleting Tron currently. This means that our worst matchup is being phased out in favor of this Eldrazi thing. Now Eldrazi is good and in no way to be considered a super easy match, but it's infinitely better than our Tron match was.
Being that Nahiri and Sorin traveled the multiverse for years and had a mentor apprentice relationship, and Sorin seeing her as a daughter, I'd say their dynamic would be that of an abandoned child/student and shameful guardian. Especially given the fact that's exactly what the gist is that we know of: Sorin not upholding his promise to come to Zendikar aid and Nahiri having to pick up the pieces herself.
Just personally don't see the estranged lovers angle.
Ahhh somehow I never caught the many years teacher part. (Time to read some character wiki pages)

Also tragic slip is the best answer imo when someone using my deck swings at me with a Blightsteel Colossus
C'est la vie
-_-*
When I posted that it had shot up to $60+ a card. Hadn't checked it since, now I am sad lol.

I would throw money at my screen if they announced that

Also I have switched out my Semblance Anvil, Ancient Ziggurat, and Fabricate
Replaced them with: Metalworker, Mana Confluence, and Recurring Insight
Once I know how it works I intend to switch out Muzzio, Visionary Architect for Ice Cave

I actually already had Contaminated Ground in my sideboard cause like 4 players at my LCS ran Tron regularly lol

It went from an average of $10-$11 to $35 -_-* Without a doubt for that very reason.
Honestly I don't draft so if forced either:
a) the card I know is worth the most
b) the card that best fits my existing deck interests
With that said Invasive Surgery cause I love the flavor
