In both of those examples, I would think that a user would be much more likely to be seeking something specific, greatly increasing the value of the search function, and due to the sheer volume of variety within these topics (multiple games, 100's of different cars, different tech topics, etc.) it makes more sense in that context.
If you're looking for one specific thing, the search function is fine here and works well. But most forum users enter discussions through browsing topics. By segregating the forums so severely, you end up with a good number of interesting topics that go unseen simply because the correct subforum is buried beneath 3 other ones. In my experience this style discourages discussion (which is the point of a forum) and discovery, which is how most discussion spawns. And I'm still curious how splintering them into oblivino is actually beneficial to this site.
So I've foregone Jace in my testing, replacing him with 3 Fiery Impulse and another Roast. In about 15 games, Jace only flipped twice. Every other time he ate a removal spell, a majority of which were Searing Blood against mono red. I think that until the mono red hype dies down, Jaceless is correct. Putting Jace down has literally caused me to lose multiple games I would have won had it not been for Searing Blood. Now, when black removal starts to reappear, Jace's value goes up tenfold because it forces them to take a turn off, but with mono red this is not the case. Also, wondering if Orbs of Warding is worth squeezing in the side. I wouldn't *think* a mono red player would bring in Smash to Smithereens game 2 (unless they saw Alhammarret's Archive), but it just seems really slow in our deck. Taking off a turn to drop this when we could potentially just win otherwise seems a little on the suicidal end of the spectrum. Thoughts?
Hey, really enjoy this site for spoilers but I'm curious what the benefit is of splintering the Magic discussion forums into total oblivion. Just under the game discussion alone there are about 40 subforums, and that's not even counting the additional subforums contained within those.
I enjoy the discussions on here but actually finding the right place for a particular discussion where people are actually present to read and participate back in the discussion is a cumbersome nightmare. This is literally the worst forum design I've ever used, and I've been on net forums since 1996.
Does it not make sense to condense the forums into a smaller, easier to navigate section. Something like
Simple, easy to find where you want to be, and will increase the topic visibility to the point that there might actually be consistent, healthy discussions rather than the tumbleweeds that blow through most of the forums. I think a slimmed down forum navigation will bring about more active discussion. Is a redesign something you guys could consider? What are other user's opinions of this? I can't be the only one.
EDIT: Apologies for posting in the wrong forum. Though I can't help but feel that it helps drive my point home a little bit.
As someone who's been playing UR Sphinx's Tutelage exclusively since I saw it at the PT, I can say without a doubt that Jar would have to be banned to stop that deck from becoming a tier one nightmare.
Thoughts? Liliana in testing has been a great enabler for reanimation shenanigans, especially if she ever lives to emblem. Emblem + Fleshbag Marauder / Merciless Executioner is a hard lock against creature decks.
Control has had an excellent run this block. Fringe UB with Khans, Tier 1.5 with Ugin and Tasigur, and then to Esper Dragons, a Tier 1 metagame defining deck that was the undisputed king for a time (then people discovered Deathmist Raptor was insane).
Piledriver existing pretty much kills off Esper Dragons for good, but classic UB Control packing 4 Bile Blight is still playable, though admittedly less exciting than it was previously.
True I didn't even think about that. Still it's really only decent against Twin and BW Tokens, it's not very good against anything else so it's not something I expect to see. Based on a quick study of mtgtop8, the only deck that has played it with any consistency is Affinity, a matchup I feel very good about to begin with.
I must have missed that one. Where did you find the list?
As for Young Pyromancer, I don't know how I feel about it in the deck. In theory it can be good but I dislike that it makes you want to run cards like probe to get immediate value out of it. However main concern is that in the current meta there has been an increase in token hate due to the rise of Junk and, BW tokens and it makes the deck even weaker to Illness in the Ranks, a card I am seeing more and more of.
Illness in the Ranks eh? That's something I haven't seen yet in my meta. Unless BW Tokens is huge in your meta (I haven't played against it in months) that seems like a narrow card taking up a precious slot. While it definitely makes Young Pyromancer bad, if they are sideboarding against that then that's just more room for you to combo off or go attrition with Pestermite and Tasigur, the Golden Fang beats. I like that it gives you the ability to stay in the game against more aggressive strategies when you don't have the combo in hand and grinding the game out isn't a realistic option. Time will tell. One thing I am thinking after a little goldfishing is that 4 Inquisition of Kozilek feels like too many, I'd kind of like another Remand or two myself.
This seems to be the url, but I can't access it yet.

Imagine that stack on MTGO though
You could get 4 if you can kill this with the trigger on the stack.
