($120 ebay value with reasonable ability to sell not counting the box/sleeves/die)Quote from SonofaBith »By virtue of its name alone, where does anyone see an Inquisition of Kozilek reprint?
It's not an EDH staple, so it won't be in the Commander decks, and besides, Wizards doesn't usually put $30 cards in those anyways (Wurmcoil was close, but at least that's an EDH staple). It likely won't be in the next Modern Event deck, because it was just in the LAST Modern Event Deck. That leaves the next likely reprint in the next Modern Masters, which if history serves means summer of 2017, a good 18 months away. If I remember correctly, Lorwyn Thoughtseize was nearing $50 before the reprint (Lorwyn version having currently settled at $30). No one can predict WOTC, but logic points to no reprint in the foreseeable future, and could IoK could climb to $40-45 over the next year?
As an aside, remember how much of a dud the Modern Event Deck was? $75 MSRP, a month after release you could find them online for $40-$50 apiece. I got mine for $35 at a Black Friday sale.
-IoK $25 x2 = $50 (same as ebay)
-Sword of F&F = $14 ($11 on ebay)
-Elspeth, Knight = $13 ($7.50 on ebay w/emblem)
-PtE $7 x3 = $21 ($6.50 x 3 = $19.50 on ebay)
-Relic $5 x3 = $15 ($3 x 3 = $9 on ebay)
-Isolated Chapel $2.75 x4 = $11 ($1.50 x 4 = $6 on ebay)
-City of Brass $2.75 x2 = $5.50 ($2 x 2 = $4 on ebay)
-Caves of Koilos: (.75 x 4 = $3 on ebay)
-Honor of the Pure: (.75 x 3 = $2.25 on ebay)
-Dismember: (.75 x 2 = $1.50 on ebay)
-Vault of the Archangel: ($1.25 on ebay)
-Windbrisk Heights: (.75 x 4 = $3 on ebay)
-Kataki War's Wage: (.50 x 3 = $1.50 on ebay)
All prices are TCPG Low. That's $130 right there.
I added the prices above in ( ) to account for what they can be reasonably sold for on ebay in the form of playsets (basically if you bought multiples with the intent to re-sell them as playsets).
Before the increase these box sets were selling well at $70 each. After the spike anything under $80 sold out immediately, and many of the $80 ones by now have sold out leaving just a few under $90 available now. Funny how these were viewed as such a bad value when they came out, and now are selling for above MSRP. And as someone mentioned, they were available for $40-$50 each for a while, and were a good value there to break apart the cards to sell as singles, and as the cards in them have slowly increased, so has the price up until the larger spike we just saw today that went along with the increase in inquisitions.

Matchup is tough (but not unbeatable) because they spew out so much so fast then drop their pump dudes and its an uphill battle. Forked Bolt, Electrolyze and other 2 for 1 spells help a lot. A lot of their dudes only has 1 toughness. Izzet Staticaster is huge here. EE is super good here since that's pretty much the only way to get rid of Etched Champion for us. Spell snare is great in the matchup as well. I would try to focus my energy into playing the control game in the beginning. Try to outgrind him. Once he's in topdeck or you feel it's a good spot, the go into attack mode and close the game. But if the Champion hits the board it instantly becomes a race since we can't get rid of it.

I feel ghostly prison is good here. Infect doesn't run a lot of lands. Any lands they run they want to use to pump their dudes up. Dropping a prison will slow them down until you get blockers and removal. They can't overrun you in 2 turns.

Not the greatest, but at least I didn't totally crap out.

Now I'm not sure if I want to open my box or sell it....

Dig Through Time got banned because it worked a bit like ponder and brainstorm. If ponder and brainstorm got banned, then so should Dig.
Seems consistent to me.
Just my 2 cents.

I think Chess has more strategy involved. The playing field is more equal (none of this I have T1 $$$ deck vs your budget deck shenanigans). Everyone starts with the same pieces. Luck is less of an issue here. The difference between the good players vs the bad ones is skill level.
The issue with chess is it's slow. If you can't see the moves and strategies it's like staring into empty space. Whereas MTG, things are happening at a faster pace. Different decks keeps each game interesting. The faster pace of MTG keeps people more interested. Chess can be a bore sometimes (I've fallen asleep in the middle of a tournament match before).
The other appeal to MTG is the social aspect. MTG players socialize before, during, and after the game. Players talk to each other and interact. Less so in Chess. Especially in the middle of a game.
In the end its more about strategy and skills as opposed to what cards do I have vs what you have.

I'm a bit new to this myself, but I've been looking at a lot of lists. I'd definitely go 4 Mogis Marauder. People don't like Master of the Feast (the extra card Master gives is quite the disadvantage) that much so maybe down that to no more than 2.
Spiteful return is nice because it does 2 damage regardless of blocks or not. Plus bestow cost is quite cheap.
Otherwise, I think its a good start.
