In the Jeskai matchup I usually bring in my own surgicals or some form of GY hate (Rip/Relic). But in those matchups with things like path it can be pretty problematic so i don't always keep my serras in and I throw in my bigger more problematic threats and planeswalkers. You can surgical your own serra in the GY in response to your ops surgical and simply fail to find the other serras, this removes it as a target in your GY. Likewise to targeting yourself with relic and removing the targeted card and same thing for mistveil plains, only time it really becomes an issue when they extirpate your card because of split second.
But Surgical Extraction states that you search that players GY, hand and library and exile that card from them all. So there is no "fail to find".
Your posts inspired me to figure out how it works, it's a pretty clever interaction and I think it could potentially win games hence I'm sharing it(since i'm pretty new to modern and someone else could maaybe find it useful):
First the card text:
Choose target card in a graveyard other than a basic land card. Search its owner's graveyard, hand, and library for any number of cards with the same name as that card and exile them. Then that player shuffles their library.
Any can be zero, so you don't have to remove any more than the copy in the graveyard to make the opponents fizzle.
Also:
701.14b If a player is searching a hidden zone for cards with a stated quality, such as a card with a certain card type or color, that player isn’t required to find some or all of those cards even if they’re present in that zone.
You don't even have to look for them, you just exile the copy in your graveyard and declare a fail to find, and procede to shuffle (Is it mandatory to shuffle if you didn't look? I would say 90% yes because the card says so, but I could be wrong.)
The tl:dr is you can respond to a surgical with a surgical, just exile the copy in the grave, and his will fizzle(as pointed out by Jiskel)
Sorry if it's not entirely in topic, but it might turn out useful for the less experienced players like me, first time poster long time lurker.
There is an other question I have, what do you guys think of Resplendent Angel from core19? Is it too fragile? is it playable?
PS:Good luck Kastellan! Hope to see you on the stream!
That's brilliant! Thanks for explaining. Details like these always trip me up in this game.

How does this deck stack up against control decks like Jeskai Control? I'm thinking of dusting off my old Martyr-proc deck and giving it a go at my next FNM.
Let's say I have 2 Lingering Souls in my GY. Opponent has an Ooze. Can my opponent activate his scavenging ooze and eat the lingering souls I'm attempting to flashback in response to me casting (with flashback) lingering souls?
I can't imagine MTG at my local Gamestops. There's 2-3 Gamestops near me and I can't see where they would setup enough tables to even hold an 8 person event. Their floor space is way too small. There's no access to bathrooms. You wouldn't let people wander into the back stock area for bathrooms, would you?
Do you know how many LGS I've been to where there were not enough tables for a single draft pod, the floor space was way too small, and there was no access to bathrooms? Do you know how many people across the world have been to the same number of LGS that could be described in this way?
Yet those very same LGS are supposedly the center of our game's "culture", and this GameStop discussion is some kind of suspicious thing.
I can't say I've ever been to a store where there were not enough accommodations and a public bathroom for its players...and I've been to stores in several different countries. I get that there might be stores in poorer countries where what you describe is true, but this is GameStop in the USA. Let's keep in mind USA has the largest player base by far. Do we have to play down to the level of stores in poorer countries?

I kept hearing on podcasts saying how WOTC is choosing to discontinue the modern masters sets. I don't see anything regarding this. I did hear that they were going to do themed/draftable sets though. But is that supposed to imply that WOTC will replace modern masters with these themed/draftable sets?
I'm thinking of Mardu Pyromancer myself. Seems a lot of fun. What scares me though is there's only 8-10 creatures. Maybe I'm not used to the playstyle, but am I supposed to play like burn and throw spells at his face while laying down the occassional creature (like burn)? Or should I be playing my YP, and focus on making tokens.
FORCE OF WILL!!
Best counterspell ever! And I don't even need to spend mana to deny you of your win! It's so good, I feel I'm cheating every time I deny you with it. HAHAHA!

Half the deck are elf lords. Definitely slower than merfolk. Seems super linear with no real tricks. Thoughts?
I'm thinking of trying it out.

Both strategies seem fragile. Thoughts?
