Going for the small tournament (about 30 people) and expecting to be there a lot of mirrors. Any spicy tech what would be useful there? Running 1 LoTV and 1 Hazoret main, 2 spellbombs and 1-2 surgicals SB, should I add/remove something to beat mirrors?
But is it? We are running 2-3 copies of Gavony Township and with our lifegain we can run some painlands. And why are you saying it doesn't do much? It counters all that nasty sweepers like Pyroclasm, Anger of the Gods, etc. And it counters Scapeshift and Pestermite/Exarch
How is his effect is weaker? I guess most damage will still be from our creatures die and after that it's the same and you get around hexproof plus it's a 1/1 body, which also helps. But I didn't like Blood Artist before, so I still don't think he can make a cut in our deck.
Only thing I can imagine is when your sac outlet is dead and someone cast Surgical Extraction. But let's be realistic here. How many deck runs those spells? My LGS is very competitve and I've seen none. People started to side Grafdigger's Cage which hurts us alot more than any of those spells.
I think putting Lily in place of Pridemage is an error. Gravedigger's cage just shuts her planeslwaker side, and we need to get rid of that annoying artifact.
I participated in a little modern event in my LGS. There were 12 of us and there was TOP 4. I went 3-0-1. I'm playing dork version.
Match 1 VS U/R Twin(2-1):
Game 1 I beated him down while removing his threats with abrupts and paths.
Game 2 We had Blood moon and Choke at the same time. And his blood moon hurted him because he had no Islands, but then he topdecks one. and plays Keranos. I decided to destroy Blood Moon with abrupt it and casted a rhino. He proceeded to combo off on his turn.
Game 3 Abrupts did their job and I beated him down.
Match 2 VS B/W Tokens(2-1)
Game 1 All he had is thoughtseize and two Tidehollow Sculler and no other threats. I had 2x Lingering Souls and Wilt-leaf Liege. So, I was playing tokens instead of him.
Game 2 He had three paths for my Rhino and Two Lieges and I lost.
Game 3 Liege and Rhino killed him because he had no removal.
Match 3 VS Abzan(2-0)
Game 1 I was on the play. My start was too good for him to handle. T1 Birds, T2 Lingering Souls, T3 Lingering souls, T4 Liege. He conceded after that.
Game 2 He had me down on the ropes this match. I was at 5 when he was at 10. I killed removed all of his threats, leaving only two spirits and Treetop Villiage, I had Voice of Resurgence and Loxodon Smiter. He puted me down to 2. And I had to win. He left Treetop to block. And I had wilt-leaf in my hands. Then I proceed to topdeck Path to Exile for his treetop and killed him.
Match 4 VS Elves(0-0-1)
We decided to draw and get into top 4.
Top 4 match was against bloom titan, nothing to say, match is unwinnable.
While my result was good, I don't like playing this deck anymore. I guess I'm going to move to Company deck, it fits my playstyle better. GL guys with your results with this deck!
I have a few questions though. All in combo vs. Value or some balance? Archangel of Thune enables 2 combos but can be a hefty cost. Whats the consensus on the trade-off. Manabase, needing WW for Anafenza seems harder to manage than the old Pod base.
Old Pod manabase supports perfectly WW cost for anafenza. Godless Shrine, Temple Garden and Thickets/filters/checkland are perfect for this. Well, pod supported well WW for Archangel of Thune.
Lastly a couple thoughts from the old days of Pod, Tarmagoyf vs Voice? When do we start looking at cards for the mirror, Anafenza the Foremost seems like a great fit here. And RGtron, without devoting serious SB to Fulminator this still seems like a nightmare match-up.
Voice for me, he is beast in control match-ups. Worship works perfectly in the mirror along with Scavenging Ooze. Anafenza is meh. RGtron is a sad match-up still, but I managed to beat tron several times.
How does the infinite big creature combo work with this deck exactly? Isn't it the persist creature which comes into play from GY that pretty much always gets bolstered?
You need both Melira and Anafenza on the board. You can sack creature to bolster trigger again.

Fun facts through the tournament:- Horizon Canopy made 13 damage to me and drew me only three cards.
- I only comboed off 4 times and not even once in the first game.
- I used Gavony Township 10 times.
- Evolutionary leap drew me 3 creatures and I played it three games, but it was useful only once.
