I'm happy they banned jace, tms. I mean come on 88% of people had play sets in their deck.... Then on top of that when you see a drop in people showing up to FNM and other standard games, they had to do something.
Couldn't be better said, when 88% of Day 2 decks sport a playset of Jaces, it just can't be any fun, hooray for endless Jace-on-Jace action.
Still Koth or some other mythical crap may explode in price now, I certainly don't miss Standard, if I ever return to Magic, I'll probably play only Limited, €60 singles aren't my thing=)
Between that Ignus and the cat that taxes library search, Boros decks can really punish decks that use fetchlands, with the Ignus on board suddenly fetchland+shockland doesn't seem too attractive anymore, especially if you need your shockland to come into play untapped.
I just love Skinrender, besides being a very playable solid card for Limited, now you can summon your very own Alien Xenomorph =) They just need to print the Queen now.
As a top of the curve in RDW, Koth is insane. He isn't very versatile but he is incredible in that deck, turning every mountain into a threat, and if he reaches ultimate, the game is basically over; nothing is going to beat 4-5 damage a turn from RDW
My thoughts exactly, Koth should prove impressive in RDW, it needs just 4 lands, and may even end up costing just 1RR since you can untap a land the turn he comes into play, the ultimate is just bonkers, you have at least 4 colorless pingers, so not even pro-red is going to stop them:)
I'll leave up debating the ramp effect to those who like ramp decks.
Turbo Tunnel
Legendary Land
:symtap:: Destroy target Creature. It can't be regenerated. If a creature is destroyed this way, put it on the bottom of its owner's deck instead of in that player's graveyard.
I really laughed with this one, and guess Volkmire's Inferno would do the same but to ALL critters, I have seen the videos in youtube and that level is f**** insane.
Ah, 8-bit nostalgia, even to this day I have not finished Battletoads, I've made it to the Dark Queen a couple of times though.
This could be a very exciting format, I for one really support the idea since I started playing during ODY-ONS T2, and was sad to see Goblins go away (even if they aren't a top deck in this format just knowing you can unleash the little bastards feels good), also, Counterspell.
At least in this regard WOTC is acting reasonably, since no matter what Vintage (especially) players say, those formats are too expensive, and in countries where Magic is relatively new, getting hold of dual lands, let alone the Power 9, so making a PTQ or Pro Tour with Vintage would alienate the vast majority of players.
I can't imagine the misery of playing versus this nuke bomb in Limited, casting it would remind me of the Shadowmoor prerelease when I dropped back to back Valleycrusher and Oona like 3 times, and the opponents conceded after 2 or 3 turns, and one even just after I dropped Oona.
What a demoralizing card to be on the receiving end of...you can't burn it, you can't beat it in combat unless you chump it with like your whole army.
I'd love to drop it against an opponent, but I admit this could be as frustrating to play against as hardcore LD or the Draw-Go decks from the old days.
I can see this card being played, if RoE slows down the format enough, 7 mana wouldn't be a farfetched proposition, and there are many ways to ramp this card, also, the Eldrazi land and there's still many things we don't know which could help ramp enough mana for such a devastating and colorless effect....some G-based ramp deck could put this to good use, also, control decks can run thise bomb for the late game.
All in all,I can't see this card not making a splash in the format...and its mythic rare-ness making it more expensive.
This is a ver exciting announcement, I absolutely loved the setting and concept of Mirrodin, how they created a metallic world that was not either a post-apocalyptic wasteland, or an hypertechnological dystopia, in fact I have always thought that Mirrodin should be featured in a kickass XBox 360 game, such a world deserves to be experienced in a way other than just cards.
Also, since blue loves artifacts, *maybe* they'll finally print some decent card drawing or counters this time....
Savage Limited beating, play this guy for almost free when you hit your 6th land drop, and you only need him to survive until next upkeep to get a deal from the token, and then it becomes stupidly good with one dragon per turn, and it definitely deserves a test run for Constructed, a late-game bomb for just R...yeah, I know it's a lighting rod, but that's why you play it together with your 6th land drop, hoping the opponent has exhausted some of his cheap removal.
Ok my 5 cents: It is a good card and could find a place in control decks but it is not as powerful as some people here might think. Ok, let's got through the abilities one-by-one:
1. I think many people are overestimating this one. You can't reliably deny your opponent a removal/land/creature/whatever with this ability. It's not Zur's Weirding. You can make it a bit less likely that your opponent draws an answer but it isn't a lock by any means. That being said, it is still nice and pretty flexbile and you should play it anyway to get out of Lightning Bolt range
2. Brainstorm eh? A pretty powerful repeatable effect, especially with all the Fetchlands out there. Sorcery speed sucks of course, but hey it's repeatable Brainstorm. There are a lot worse sorcery speed draw spells out there.
3. Repeatable bounce is always fun - at least for you. Much much better than the card Unsummon and together with ability number 2 the reason to play this Jace
4. Uplayable mill junk. I'm acutally glad it's so expensive because I think it would be a very annoying "ups, I win" card otherwise. Besides, mill is retarded anyway.
It still suffers from the planeswalker rules though, which aren't very control-friendly and one of the reasons I don't like planeswalkers very much. It's abilies would be much better at instant-speed and it is pretty vulnerable to the masses of good creatures out there - two facts that will always hamper its use in control decks. But it still as good as control planeswalkers get, so you might as will use them :).
Oh and for the record: We still need a lot more cards to get blue back in shape.
I fully agree with you, I think playing the +2 ability right away is pretty much the only choice vs decks packing bolt, or a lot of critters (every deck out there except for turbofog it seems), otherwise you may be playing this winner:
Dumb Brainstorm :2mana::symu::symu:
Sorcery
Draw 3 cards and then put 2 cards from your hand on top of your library.Target opponent discards a card.
Beyond the lackluster comes into play turn, the repeatable brainstorm, plus 5 loyalty seem very very solid however.
Now that's a sweet winning condition for U/W control decks, and since it's not legendary you can run 3 without worrying too much...now all that's missing is some usable countermagic, and decent counters, and counters that don't suck, oh! and decent card drawing too (though Courier's Capsule could be certainly worse).
Can you please enlighten me on the average price for a diamond engagement ring?
In my country normally there's just the actual wedding ring, engagement rings aren't really a widespread thing, and when and if they are given they are normally just gold rings, same for Spain I think.
If their price ranges in the thousands of dollars, I'd buy such a trinket when they print a foil Black Lotus=)
In Brazil? At least three times a day. 45 degrees heat + humidity is no joke.
Same for Maracaibo (Venezuela) our weather is just like that, so you have to shower once or twice a day, plus body odor is really looked down on in our country, I remember the guy who used to run our gaming shop told a guy once that he would be banned from the shop if he ever showed up again stinking...I missed him in the shop in Madrid, where we had a few guys who fitted well the stereotype of shower-shy Europeans (plus fat and MTG players on top of that)
