That shark seems fun in the Monoblue tempo deck, especially as a SB card against removal-light decks. EOT Flow of Knowledge and you have a 5/5 waiting to burst out from its incubation, and even if most of the noncreature spells you'll play are MV<3, it's still acceptable, though this guy won't take any slots away from Haughty Djinn for sure.
A 5-loyalty PW in T2? Just what Mono-G devotion needed...This sounds dangerous for Pioneer, and possibly Standard. The hexproof ability for the lands seems pretty pushed, cards like this (looking at youNissa, who shakes the World can be balanced by making your manabase vulnerable to removal, but not with this one.
Well, those arts are sweet, and Azorius decks can become even more annoying now, improved Remand in White, which means Orzhov decks or Mono-W Humans can bounce your spells for a massive tempo gain, for extra annoyance make sure to combine it with Thalia and enjoy the sabotage.
When Overrun feels too subtle... just imagine opening this in your Sealed pool and dropping it on a clogged board. Dunno if it will see play outside Commander because there's better stuff to ramp into in Constructed formats, but the "each combat" part sounds especially good for Commander (in my limited knowledge of the format).
Ok, this looks like a high pick for sure, can fit any color and either help your creatures go through with flying, or make your big landlubbers more proactive thanks to vigilance. Even if you don't have many ways to reload it it can still make a difference, bonus if you draft the guy that enters and reloads oil counters before jumping back to your hand
The card comes with three oil counters itself, so this is going to be really strong in Limited I bet, the Sorcery speed is annoying but we're talking three 3/3s for one card that cost you only 1 mana to play in the first place.
This should be played across many formats, the extra cost regarding Stifle or Annul is an acceptable prize to play for the versatility, countering an ETB or PW ability can make or break a game in many cases. I was expecting an Annul reprint but this is also nice, seems like a must have in Blue sideboards in Standard.
Wait, you're telling me that UW now gets a 3/2 with Flying for 2 mana?!? That's incredible efficiency!
Nevermind that ability that probably won't ever trigger in Standard, with those stats Urza's kid could even make UW tempo a contender, I wasn't expecting a 3/2 flyer for 2 without any drawbacks, this set is looking very promising for aggro decks with the Swiftspear reprint and the Phyrexian 7-mana worm's Prototype form.
Arcane Proxy seems just alright, maybe an UR deck could use it to recycle a cheap draw spell, or burn, still, the Sorcery speed puts a real damper on it, I wouldn't play it in my Monoblue Standard deck, Surge Engine on the other hand...
Ok, now those are reprints I can get behind, Monored definitely got a shot in the arm with Swiftspear back, Phoenix Chick and Kumano Faces Kakkazan are already waiting for ya buddy.
So Phyrexian Fleshgorger can be either a powerful 3-drop to pressure the opponents really fast in Standard Monoblack decks, or a T3 Tron-powered beatstick, I love it.
That Teferi looks powerful at first glance, but I'm more inclined to believe that the high MV and the fact that the tokens it makes don't have evasion will keep him in check, still it seems risky for Commander, but I don't really know the format so I don't know how viable Monoblue decks are.
Now get rid of Yorion in Explorer as well and I'll be happy. I just can't stand that card, if I wanted to play with unwieldy stacks of cards I'd play Commander, not 2-player formats. I was half expecting them to do something about Greasefang as well though, T3 Parhelion II is a miserable play experience I'd rather avoid.
The Meathook Massacre gone should help aggro decks a fair bit, the Domain sweeper is pretty mediocre if you're playing monoblack, and while Path of Peril or Bloodline Culling can be devastating against small creature aggro, they don't have the life swing that can put the game beyond reach, Liliana may be a problem further down the road but she sells packsis too new to the format to ban yet, and she's not as effective against decks that fill up the board, or, ironically, Black-based aggro since they can just discard boxers or skeletons to her +1 to play them later.
I agree that Mono-B may dip into white and/or red to mitigate the loss of MM, oh well, our FNM just got better, the 2 whales playing MM decks will have to find something else:rolleyes:.
Look, an unblockable 3/2 for 3! That you can play on 2, so it can swing on 3, that can pump itself more, and draw cards later.
Well, looks like Blue will also get on theEvolved Sleeper train as well, these kind of cards always end up finding a home, dropping this guy and protecting it feels like a solid plan, a 5/4 unblockable creature wins games fast.
The English translation is clearly missing "this turn" on the tax. And,since a huge amount of blue should be playing on your opponent's turn this is basically downside only for your opponent. Not being legendary is really nice, allowing blue mages to have more then one of these on the battlefield is dangerous. As a blue player, I approve.
I'm afraid I'll have to agree with this post instead:
Symmetrical feels meh and having your opponent get first crack at the extra card feels even worse. Hard pass for me in Standard, Pioneer and Modern.
Too many opponents with pretty much no hand/with only lands in hand/in the late game with many lands on the battlefield/also playing the instants game will gladly draw that extra card.
For sure there's a risk to this card, and maybe the risk is too high but I'm willing to give it a try, at least on the board against stompy
And Stompy players will thank you for shoring up their lack of card draw, if they have one or two beaters on the board, they'll gladly draw that extra card and refill their hand while you're the one digging for an answer, and once you find it, they'll drop the cards you gave them at your own mana investment.
It does, "virado" means turned in Portuguese, and it's also the word for tapping cards.
