I bought it 2 months ago very cheap and still dont know if i want to play it. Might need the money tho.
Whats your take?
I'm pretty biased, but I am prepared to play the ***** out of it! I am very unsure about how good it can be in this meta, but it is fun with a somewhat competitive edge. That's what a Timmy Spike like myself needs...

It will be a statement. Although i agree that buying into tier 1 decks may be a bad idea.
Also, i dont understand how Eldrazi can still be the best deck without Eye.
Well, before the doomsday talk completely overtakes everyone, why is this making everyone think wizards is trying to ban T1 decks for just being T1? The reason they likely would ban opal with eye is because both are legendary enablers that allow explosive starts in two decks, both of which were going head to head and leaving the rest in the dust. Also, if wizards is taking control of modern they may also want to slowly drop the power level of modern by banning cards that don't fit with their vision. -

It feels really crazy to ban Opal after months of Eldrazi dominance, which skewed the metagame so horrifically it's impossible to assess any other element of the metagame outside of the Eldrazi.Posted in: Modern Archives
I'm still predicting an Eye ban or a dual Eye/Temple ban, and I'll be stunned if Affinity takes a hit tomorrow too. -

Serj posted a message on Current Modern Banlist Discussion (1/18/2016 update - Summer Bloom/Splinter Twin Banned)I think people are also missing the fact that a lot of eldrazi players were playing in the actual open on day 2 instead of playing in the classic. Something to consider about the light amount of eldrazi in the classic.Posted in: Modern Archives
I also fail to see how smasher or tks present a quicker more efficient clock and disruption compared to lodestone himself. You know a 5 powered dude that taxes everything that's played in a chalice and 3sphere deck. Throwing tks golem and smasher in the same deck sounds like it would solve the consistency issues both decks have as well as easier to build around the clunk of the decks. I'll probably build it at somepoint because most of the eldrazi decks at the open were awful and clunky and very subpar if it did t have a suberp draw (it's avg draws have been worse than any stompy deck I've played, and it's high end draws are nowhere near as good). But that's a discussion in another part of the forums for another time.
I'm ready to get my popcorn and beer to watch GP Detroit and get drinking games set up for every time there's an eldrazi deck on camera. Then proceed to plan a banlist party at our lgs where I will burn temples and eyes. -

Earthbound21 posted a message on Current Modern Banlist Discussion (1/18/2016 update - Summer Bloom/Splinter Twin Banned)Posted in: Modern ArchivesQuote from Deurge »SSG isn't the problem, I think the issue is people are not used to playing against combo decks in Modern. They have never been oppressive and if you play a linear aggro deck (which are a good share of the meta right now) it's only natural to lose against combo decks WHEN and IF they manage to go off. Decks like Ad Nauseam and Shoal (which I play) are very easy to hate on and very prone to bricking. We're not talking TES or OmniTell here. We're not talking T3 uncounterable Show and Tell because of Boseiju landing Omniscience and then Emrakul. I think people just want to play Standard 2.0 because it's easier and requires a lot less thought, defeating the purpose of Magic all together. Back on topic, a good ban right now would be Eldrazi Temple, since it's the card enabling the really, REALLY broken plays. Eye of Ugin alone is not enough.
Just ban both. Nail the lid on the stupid deck. In the category of "Linear" it is the worst offender the format has ever seen, besides maybe Blazing Shoal Infect, but even that deck had to pack defensive counterspells. Even BreachPost and full power Storm were more manageable by the hate cards available, than Eldrazi is. Enough is enough. All the numbers, all the community voices (pros and otherwise), and all the forum posts from everyday Magic players say this deck just needs to die. The only people who want to dissuade you towards a Mox Opal/Spirit Guide/"all these cards that are historically completely fine" ban are people who are oblivious to cold hard facts or people who want to protect their investment. Just kill the deck and let Modern return to some semblance of normalcy.
Facts -
Mox Opal can only ever make one mana/turn.
Spirit Guide can only make one mana/game.
Eye of Ugin can make upwards of four mana/turn.
Eldrazi Temple makes two mana/turn.
Just ban the ******* Eldrazi deck and be done with it. It needs to happen. It will happen. Stop giving half-assed defenses of the thing. You people are wrong.
And everyone who wants to eliminate every combo deck, seriously, enough. Wizards has already banned the good ones. Don't come in this thread and talk about how Ad Nauseam and Griselbrand need bans when COMBINED they hold ~4% metagame share. (source: http://modernnexus.com/modern-metagame-and-eldrazi-checkup/)
I think the mods need to enforce higher standards on this thread. To much garbage is spouted daily that prevents any real informed discussion. -

Lantern posted a message on Lantern's Modified Banlist Modern TournamentPosted in: Modern ArchivesLantern's Modified Banlist Tournament
Welcome to Lantern's Modified Banlist Tournament! Below you'll find all the rules, stipulations, format, and answers to all the questions. Please read carefully before entering, as breaking these rules could result in a round loss, if not disqualification.
What is the Modified Banlist Tournament?
Once upon a time, when modern as a format was new, the mod Lantern, ran a series of tournament to help the modern community come together and get a real feel for modern was. Modern is pretty well defined now, so that's not needed.
But with all the turmoil from the banlist over the years, I've decided its time for a Lantern tournament again.
So heres the deal, this is a one day swiss FREE tournament, using all of Modern's rules except a modified ban list. These following cards ARE legal in this event:
why isnt BLANK on the list?
There could be a lot of reasons for this. The first is simply "Lantern doesn't think it will be 'good' for the format." This whole kit and caboodle is under my effort (to be clear, running these is A LOT of effort) and so I'm just going to make it easier on myself and stick to what I know won't break easily.
Other than that, I've also got a rule of thumb which is "Don't unban cards from the last 1-2 announcements." Its too close, and I want to keep a little separation.
I also want to make it clear, that doesnt mean your card won't be unbanned in the future. The idea is to have the "smallest banlist with out breaking or creating an unhealthy format." Since the community will be helping balance this meta, we can only push little by little.
Reasonings for these unbans? We're starting with some smaller changes and working up. The idea is to unban a wide choice for each color, as in, a card that could go in many decks. Blue gets AV, which can power up combo, control, and tempo. White gets stoneforge, which is basically a package deal. Black gets return, which goes into grave decks, red gets bloodbraid (cheating kinda, I know, but the other red cards werent easily safe) which helps aggro and midrange, and green gets green sun, which helps hate packaged decks, hopefully to fight return and stoneforge.
Again. This is a start, if balance isn't good, Ill take community advice and adjust. If control isnt good, ill see if its a lack of raw power (unban jace), aggro too good (ban bbelf) ect. So if something "breaks" its great! Thats what its here for, to test.

If you still like to debate and chat with other folks about Modern, at least try with cards that are a little more realistic to come off.
