I've seen several list going without Serum Visions. Is it worth dropping for other spells?
@h3xw0l7 I like the list, you are however light on removal spells, as mentioned before. If you where to have the full play set of Fatal Push, how'd the list look like?
Many modern events this weekend, I'm hoping for some sort of BUG list to take top 8 or 16 :)..
I agree again about being a bit light on removal, I also posted a 59 card list (it was late and I think I sleeved up a mana leak just to hit 60 for testing). I could include edict effects in the board for the random bogles match however as much as I like LotVs -2 her +1 just always felt terrible with this list. Going forward, this is what I plan to take to a 4 round on Thursday.
Regarding edict effects, is Warren Weirding worth considering for the tribal type? This would be sideboard if included, I may pick a few up and test with it and see if I ever want to bring it in. I could also board 3 Liliana of the Veil to swap with Liliana, the Last Hope where I want the edict effect though I probably won't pending a bogles meta.
I tried the following list based on the Willy Edel list posted above. I don't have my complete set of fatal pushes yet and I made a few changes based on how I wanted to play it, the ability to fuel the graveyard and recur your threats with Liliana, the Last Hope seemed to be a great place to start. I also don't have Zen fetches and have no intention to get them soon (they're bound to be reprinted soon, right? )
Against burn the threat of Tarmogoyf and Grim Flayer with Spell Snare and Stubborn Denial backup was great and collective brutality is a house against them. I think I dropped one out of ten games against it.
Against Jund, the matches were much closer as Grim Flayer gets stonewalled by their Tarmogoyfs. I found myself flashing in snapcaster quite a bit in response to LotV -2 which worked well the first few times to catch my opponent. Otherwise I have nothing really profound to say regarding this matchup, an unchecked Dark Confidant does work and this list ran a one of huntmaster of the fells and Chandra, Torch of Defiance which was great at killing Grim Flayers.
I'll be taking this list to a few local FNMs and SCG Modern night events and I hope to get more insight into what works and what my sideboard needs to look like. The testing above was just friendly testing to let me get familiar with the deck. Going in, I had concerns that delirium might be hard to achieve but it never really proved a problem, I don't think I ever attacked with Grim Flayer as a 2/2.
I just feel like Blood Moon is amazing right now, locally I see a ton of Tron, BGx and Bant Eldrazi and main deck blood moon just steals games, allowing you to hardcast Through the Breach in my extremely limited testing. Right now this is the deck I'm thinking of starting with.
The languish are just budget replacements for Damnation but otherwise it's a list that's faithful to the BR list I saw Caleb stream. I figure I would use it as a starting point and tune it accordingly. I had done some preliminary testing with Cathartic Reunion and while it wasn't enough to be definitively for or against it it didn't seem great most of the time. Any suggestions beyond going back to Grixis? I figured I would exhaust my interest in the BR version before going back to the grixis version but I do appreciate your response. I would have responded a bit earlier but I've been fighting the flu so I wasn't ignoring your response, promise!
I watched Caleb Durward's BR Goryo's deck and it looked fairly rock solid but I haven't seen much discussion about it. I have played the grixis version quite a bit and I find blood moon to be amazing, so much so that I'm either looking to try his list or just jam Blood Moons into the grixis version. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm curious why no one is talking about the BR version anymore.
I've been lurking for awhile and have UB Tezzeret together for quite some time and fell in love with a Coretapper list with Death Cloud that was posted a few pages back. I put the following list together and took it to a small Modern tournament where I went 2-2. (Mana flood against burn was one loss, and Gaddock Teeg maindeck in a GW Death and Taxes build just destroyed me )
Reflecting back, I was destroyed by a Gaddock Teeg in a GW Death and Taxes build, that was a neat answer. I'm still undecided on the Sea Gate Wreckage being a four of, it never really hurt but it wasn't as helpful as I expected. It was awkward post Death Cloud where I would usually only have an Astral Cornucopia with counters on it and couldn't generate the colorless necessary to activate it.
Going forward, I was thinking of altering the list slightly to try Smallpox. This is the current list I'm working with.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I see Boom//Bust making quite a few lists but I wanted to continue investigating this route before I switch. Thanks!
I've been playing the following decklist for about two months now after switching from UW Tron Gifts and I find it just fizzles and loses steam fairly quickly if I don't open or draw a gifts ungiven, I really think a Sphinx's Revelation or other card draw effect is missing in my current list.
I also want to like the Life from the Loam/Ghost Quarter combo but it always seems to slow so I am considering removing it. It's not really good until they don't have basics and at that point I'm wasting my land drop until I can eventually turn them into a wasteland. After two months of playing the deck three nights a week it's only ever been that effective once.
I have really enjoyed Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, he's been amazing as a looter and another means to discard your combo pieces you don't want in your hand. I typically hate it when he flips as his snapcaster mode has never been amazing for me in this list.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
I've been having luck with UBW splashing for Sorin, Solemn Visitor and Restoration angel. I also run one Vault of the Archangel to make my bitterblossom tokens great on the defensive. I'm still waiting for more substantial results, though we haven't had any noteworthy Modern events recently.
