Does Young Pyromancer count? Serra Angel and Psychatog are solid locks for me no matter what comes out. The tog gets there easily on power but I think Serra Angel isn't the bomb she used to be (but still a very solid card on the board).
I actually just got the 30th anniversary Serra Angel and since I'm a Kev Walker fan girl I'll be swapping it in for my FTV:A Rebecca Guay one (which is a shame because I have that art on a playmat).
We used to have threads for the annual commander releases, even if the only real card we got some years was just Heirloom Blade or Ash Barrens. Noise Marine seems cubeable to me so I think we should make a thread.
Yeah fair points and i generally agree. I just don't really see the point, if people want to make a scd thread they can do it already. I actually enjoy the people posting in the wrong threads, it's funny.
Hoping the price of Cryptic Spries falls through the floor and I can just buy a stack of them to either discard after a draft or otherwise have 1 unmarked one and 10 marked ones on hand.
I was definitely hesitant about the swap. I resisted swapping Man-o'-War for Exclusion Mage a few years ago because bouncing your own guys is interesting value and obviously the jelly is iconic, but when a card comes out that's this close to being strictly better, I felt like it was time to kill the sacred cow.
I don't post much these days but I read pretty much every post in the peasant threads and you've really hit the ground running in terms of post quality btw so welcome.
I don't think it's reasonable to expect power creep to add a bunch of new cards every set. NEO was certainly a high water mark over the last few years of standard sets.
It's not always about power creep; we want interesting cards. I realize that argument may be weakened when the only card I am adding and one that I considered are pure power creep and strictly better than older cards, but it doesn't have to be that way. Looking back at the last several sets, there have been plenty of additions that were interesting and offered choices without being pure power creep.
Yeah fair point but I think there's a lot of interesting new cards in every set that will never make the cut because their power isn't pushed enough. Ultimately to make the cut the new cards need to be on par with some of the most powerful Peasant cards ever printed and that's not something I expect to see from more than a handful of cards in any set.

Well, I'm moving again, and again it's with a magic player. So I might be back around these parts more often.
It is nice to see a couple of old reliable posters still here that I can plagiarize lists of potential cards from.
Don't read too much into my swaps, I haven't played a game of magic in over a year and a game of cube in about 5 years lmao. If I were to actually purchase the cards to update my list (not done since Ixalan), I'd probably rework the whole list since I think a lot of big changes are overdue.

Welcome back.
Goblin Motivator > Rabbit Battery
Vermin Gorger > Dockside Chef
Goblin Traprunner > Twinshot Sniper - Coinflips are a little silly, don't want to cut a spell for Twinshot since spells matter is a thing in UR.
Drownyard Behemoth > Waker of Waves - overdue, thanks for the reminder rancoredmalone
Curse of Chains > The Modern Age - we don't really need more removal and this is the worst in the cube as well.
Parcelbeast > Colossal Skyturtle - It's whatever
Plaguecrafter > Gravelighter
Spare Supplies > High-Speed Hoverbike - zoom zoom lol
Rhythm of the Wild > Invigorating Hot Spring
Filigree Familiar > Containment Construct - Filligree Familiar is filler, Construct is niche but interesting.
