Hey guys, how do you sideboard against Jund, Junk and the Mirror? (as Nahiri build)
I know that Ancestral Vision is great against BGx, but aside from that, what is or isn't good against them?
One note about ensnaring bridge is that you can target Ancestral Vision to your opponent so you can attack for lethal that turn. While not the best thing ever, sometimes it may be handful.
I hate blood moon -_-
1-of Jace felt ok to me. There are some awkward times when you want to flashback Cryptic Command in your opponent's turn for example and you can't. But generally it's ok. You can flashback your removals and even cryptic command on your turn, given the flexibility of that card. The +2 also helps against some aggro matchups.
I played a small event yesterday, but went (1-1-1).
Match 1 - Affinity (0-2)
G1 is kinda hard against them. I mana leaked an Arcbound Ravager, and the next turn he plays an Steel Overseer which just got the game from there. Lose
G2 was very long, I should have won easily, but a blood moon ruined my game. It went to turns and he killed me with an Etched Champion while he was at 1 life. Lose
Match 2 - Naya Zoo (1-1)
G1 was pretty easy, he did pratically nothing. Win
G2 Blood Moon again! I survived for a bit of time, but ended up losing to a single Wild Nacatl. Lose
Match 3 - Abzan Company (2-1)
G1 I was able to outrace him with 2 BB while not letting him combo. Win
G2 He turn-2 Kitchen Finks, turn-3 Kitchen Finks, while I had nothing on the board and 4 mana. Decided to risk playing Kalitas which got path'd right away. Not much else to do. Lose
G3 I continuously beat him with Tar Pit and Mistbind while not letting him resolve anything valuable. Win.
I'm not sad with the results, since I saw that the deck is playing and competing very well. I guess I should have expected the moons and left some answer to it. I was playing with 5 basic Islands and 1 Swamp btw
Round 1 vs. BG Pox 2-0
Round 2 vs. Abzan Company 2-1
Round 3 vs. Boggles 2-0
Round 4 vs. WB Eldrazi ID
Ancestral Vision is as powerful as I remember it to be. A single one was more then enough to defeat a Liliana of the Veil from the Pox player, and that was a game where I mulled to six and had skipped my second land drop. The Abzan Company matchup was the most challenging. Kalitas was brutal in the post-board games. Same goes for Mirran Crusader on his end. The Grafdigger's Cage experiment was interesting and I might consider running with it one more time, since it so efficiently stops what they are doing. The Boggles player was not versed in the finer points of mulliganing with said deck and that's all I can say about that game. I played out the last round for the lols and lost 1-2. The deck is still quite powerful, especially when paired with D&T critters but I feel that two mulls to 5 was what really lost me that match.
Going forward, the deck looks awesome. Perfecting the removal suite as well as the optimization of the sideboard choices for the aggressive matchups should leave me well in the clear. Really looking forward to playing the deck at my 1st Modern WMCQ...
Congrats!
I have one question about your list.
Before Ancestral Vision was unbanned, people had a certain mix of cheap Counterspells (Mana Leak, Spell Snare, Remand), Discards (IoK, Thoughtseize) and Spot removal (Gftt, Doom Blade, Smother, Disfigure, Dismember...).
After the unban, I saw that people were more inclined to remove the discards to give space for the AVs, but it seems you gave up on the Counterspells/Removal side. Didn't you miss more Counters or Removals? Or maybe found yourself with useless Snapcasters in hand?
Took first place in a 5 round 28 person event at my LGS with my new version of faeries.
2-0 Mono B Devotion. Very simple matchup, countered and destroyed everything, got there with faerie swarm in game 1, land beatdown in game 2. Next
1-0-1 Kiki Chord. Game 1 was a great matchup. He got ahead, I dismembered the rg land, played kalitas, gained back all my life while beating him down with both it and a tar pit. You should have seen the look on his face when i sac'd mutavault. Game 2 I misplayed, so hard. We were under stream for the matchup, everyone saw it. I don't even want to talk about it. But there's a recording of it bc twitch wants me to remember my failures :/ Either way, i should have won but we went to turns and it was a draw.
2-0 Geist. Holy crap this matchup is easy. I sideboarded in a dispel game 2. That's it. I took care of everything with either counters or kill spells. Sprites worked wonders.
2-1 Fish. Kalitas you sexy bastard. Won me the game, played him, he held back, i sac'd mutavault. I kill spell a lord, got a zombie, swung, sac'd it. At this point he's 7/9. Out of control. Game 2 he outpaced me, just got too far ahead, I couldnt recoup. Game 3 I stomped him, so hard. 2 doomblades, dismember, disfigure, mana leak, 2 lands. killed 4 straight creatures, countered one. started beating his face in with lands. He just scooped.
2-1 Burn. God game 1 against burn is rough. Moving on. Game 2. Guys, if you aren't running vampiric link do it. This game was also streamed so there's a recording of it if you want to see how absolutely bonkers it is. Turn one i inquisition a bolt, his t1 he tops a goblin guide, hits for 2 after revealing a vampiric link. t2 i attach it, creature is essentially gone, he then drops an eidelon (****) it stays, we grind out a game until its 4 life to his 2. i top deck kalitas and win the game. His board state is a goblin guide with vamp link, 2 eidelons. He swings i win the game, either of us play a spell we lose, i won with creeping tar pit later but kalitas won. Game 3 I attached a vamp link to eidelon. I instantly win. Burn scoops to that, especially when i counter all his spells that target the eidelon, of which there were 4? lol it was hilarious.
Guys if you haven't switched to vamp links and kalitas, i highly recommend it. Feels SO much better than scions/snappys main and go fors/whatever in the side.
May I ask why you play Slaughter Pact? I think the twin banning has eliminated the need Slaughter Pact, at least in the mainboard. What is it that you want to kill so badly that you're willing to tap three lands for it a the beginning of your turn (the worst time) lest you lose the game?
Also, what has your experience with Kalitas been so far? Do you like him in the main?
Slaughter Pact has been great for me against Eldrazi...but then again, maybe it won't be even a deck soon...
I found it great in situations where you tap out in their turn (i.e casting a Mistbind Clique) and still have a way to deal with their threats that are already in the field.
Thanks for your input! The jace you say is Vryn's Prodigy, right?

Unfortunately I don't have premium so I can't see it. If any of you have it, please tell us if there's any relevant info.
I'd say that the reddit post from mtgprice is almost a mini Primer. Maybe you can gather some ideas from there, or from him.

It exiles Kitchen Finks, not letting it come back with persist.

Michael Majors posted a fae example list in his article. Don't agree much, but well...
Congrats!

Baneslayers are awesome! If you can resolve one against Burn, it's GG.
Very good in any matchup you need extra/faster pressure.
Also, there's a chance your opponent will side out removals, so an unanswered Baneslayer will do wonders!
