I always think about cards like Thoughtseize, Stony Silence and Choke. Obviously they`re better cards than their creature-like variation (Sculler, Kataki) but won't it make even harder to get something useful from CoCo?
Hey guys, I've been lurking in this thread for a while and decided to put together a list. I'm still new to this archetype so I don't know too much about, not to mention my card collection isn't ideal for this deck but its fairly close. Here is my list:
So I'm going out tonight to my testing group with friends and I plan to take it to FNM next week. Just some extra information about relevant cards I own:
1) Extra Paths
2) Playset of Leyline of Sanctity's.
3) A copy of Shambling vent from the prerelease
4) Lots of Sweepers and removal in general
Basically I'm just wondering if this deck is good enough so far. I know I only have one B/W fetchland as of right now, I'm going to try to find some more if I can find a good deal. Also I know some people here are playing Liliana but I just don't know, since I'm playing Auriok Champions and Hero's of Bladehold it just seems really hard on the mana to make that curve work. Anywho thanks in advance.
Well, if you can't get the Marsh Flats yet, you could play Windswept Heath and Flooded Strand. It's kinda hard you wanting to fetch for a basic swamp.
I like your deck, but it's probably not BW tokens
Some notes:
- Spectral Procession is one of (if not our best card). It's not great with bob tho.
- Path to Exile is our best removal, use 4 of them.
- Intangible Virtue is another card you always want a playset.
- I don't think blood artist really fits in this deck that well. If we had at least a sac outlet maybe...
Affinity is 75/25 matchup. We really mess with their plan with flying creatures and removal. Also we have access to stony silence post board.
Jund and Twin aren't bad matchups, it'll depend on how much disruption you have to stop the combo(twin) or remove their big creatures (but you can also chump block them forever).
Is it me or BW Tokens is really getting popular again? I don't if it's too good, since I don't want to see Illness in the Ranks in too many sideboards
Jokes aside, are you guys really planning to change your manabases after BFZ? (Micro-red splash for Crumble to Dust or Shambling Vent in place of something else...)
The problem with the red splash is that I think we'll need more fetches to consistently cast Crumble to Dust on turn 4, but I think I'm going to try it anyway. Winning against tron is too much based on luck, and I'm not the most lucky guy.
This is how I think my manabase will be after BFZ (although I really want to put at least a Lilly on MB, I'm not sure if the manabase is consistent enough to cast her effectively):
Shambling Vents is my hope against Tron (Ex: If you have 2 Shambling Vents in game, you may even kill their Ugin and they can't do nothing to remove it from the game)
This is the deck I've been running with quite some success. The Leylines in the sideboard are a meta call at my LGS.
What I've been trying to do is put a Gavony Township and a Temple Garden in the deck, but I currently run 23 lands. I'd probably cut a plains for the Temple Garden, but for the Gavony Township I don't know if I should cut a colored land for it or if I should go with 24 lands... What do you guys think?
The Urborg is for consistently cast Liliana, but I don't know if it's really necessary. Sometimes it helps to generate mana from fetch lands too, so it's not that bad.
As for the spoilers, I'll probably trade the chapels for the manlands. (I'm not a fan of Windbrisk Heights).
I've been ordering cards for D&T and this is my first attempt at a list. I don't have any torunaments coming up before the end of July, and the meta will change by then, but here is where I'm at.
The "flex slots" maindeck could be Restoration Angel, Aven Riftwatcher, Kitchen Finks, Inquisitor Exarch, Serra Avenger or Jotun Grunt in some combination of numbers. The Finks seem good against burn, Riftwatcher good against burn but also in grindy matchups, as is Exarch, especially if you add Restos to the mix. Grunt is good against decks reliant on graveyard. Its also just good for bashing face, like Serra Avenger. Also, after origins is released, I'm going to need to add Vryn Wingmare to the list. The undecided slots in the 15 are just slots I can't figure out what to fill with.
I think considering the meta right now (lots and lots of Grixis Delver/Control/Twin), Dryad Militant is a better option than Judge's Familiar as our 1-drop.
I play with 2 Brimaz and 2 Bladehold maindeck. One of the things that are great about them is that they don't die to most of the sweepers that people bring against us, like Pyroclasm, Anger of the Gods or Whipflare.
I also use 2 copies of BB, but I rarely see them...
I can't believe what I'm reading! Wear//Tear aligns better than Spell Pierce when against Stony Silence, period! W/T gets rid of Stony Silence under the same conditions Spell Pierce does, as well as after it sticks on the battlefield.
Sorry, but I have to disagree. When Stony Silence is on the stack, you can activate Mox Opal or Drums for blue and cast Spell Pierce.
Wear/Tear will only be cast with Glimmervoid.
I've been running 1 Dismember and 1 Murderous Cut alongside the 4 Paths with good success. I tried Go For The Throat and Doom Blade in the main, but they're a little too conditional for this meta with junk, affinity, and even infect running around.
I like a copy of Darkblast somewhere in the 75 as well; it's sometimes useless but it's also sometimes spectacular.
that's interesting. Where are you finding darkblast to be spectacular?
Ok, so, back into traditional builds, I'm inclined to take this to this weekend's GP side events (I only play modern).
Since its a GP and it will have players from everywhere, it's going to be an unknown meta for me, so if you guys could help me with suggestions on building a "generic sideboard"...
I like Adam's list but really like Secures. Where do I find those 2 slots? Drop 2 Alarms for 2 Secure?
Regarding his list, I'd drop a Thoughtseize and a Sorin to fit that. But Im no fan of less than 4 Intengible Virtue... Probably would drop a Zealous Persecution for the 4th.
This is a rather interesting approach. I have some UW shocks lying around and a couple of Polymorphs. I'll test this too, but I'll be only using Emrakul. You can imagine how opponents will get off guard and expecting you to play pure tokens deck, only to flip Emrakul from your heights, since they'll be expecting anthems on it rather.
Yeah, at first I thought about using 2 Emrakuls, but then I thought about Stain the Mind and things like that, so I decided to get a second big creature.
The Lilianas are interesting because they can make you discard the creatures, if they happen to be in your hand. (Thoughtseizing yourself can make that too...but it's not so great).
Please share your results when you're done testing
May I see the list you're playing right now?

In general, the core of the deck is:
4 Spectral Procession
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Bitterblossom (or Raise the Alarm) (or a split with both)
7 Thoughtseize/Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Path to Exile
To help fix your mana, we use at least 8 fetches and maybe 1 or 2 Fetid Heath.
Jund and Twin aren't bad matchups, it'll depend on how much disruption you have to stop the combo(twin) or remove their big creatures (but you can also chump block them forever).

1 Sacred Foundry

4 Plains
4 Marsh Flats
4 Godless Shrine
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Windswept Heath
4 Path to Exile
