Now that we have the new blue Electromancer (one colorless flexibility is nice), could the deck splash black? All the >1 cmc spells have the same colorless flexibility.
Obviously gonna be slower
i've been playing the deck, initially budget version, now full ponza closely following Matt Mendoza's lists. When someone in my play group switched to scapeshift I noticed how suspect the deck was to disruption by destroying the ramp effect with bolts to birds or elves. I started messing around with a variation using faithless looting to help with filtering but have not seen any other lists with looting. I arrived at looting after the toronto tourney winner using the Garruk's and Harmonize. The problem was if you get a mana dork bolted you have to wait around until you could cast a harmonize or minus a garruk if you had a threat to draw out of your poor board state. With looting being a single red you can draw into what you need, but it really helps if you go this route to bring down your curve so you can pitch lands in the event you want to keep all that you draw.
What basics are you running? This is on-topic I swear
I was thinking of running Ice Age Mountains and Forests because they'll match the Stone Rains & Blood Moons, plus that "You're in a frozen wasteland and can't do anything" vibe matches the deck imo.
I know this forum is mostly for the green version (played this for a year like 2 years back, pls don't infract :^) ) but splashing for Narnam Renegade to use [any] fetches (and maybe Fatal Push) is tasty.
I think going out of the way to do stuff with +1/+1 counters is too variable and kind of gimmicky, but they could be good despite me not liking them.
These are pretty conservative changes, I don't think it'd be worth changing anything drastic.
Renegade helps you break up the line (fight cards > chumping) if you couldn't remove their dudes.
You also get Abrupt Decay, etc. Dismember stops hurting as much if you still decide to run it.
That 2/3 for BB deathtouch lifelink is cool, but would be hard to cast.
Piecing together the rest of the deck, hope to play soon. I got The Dark Blood Moons and Alpha Stone Rains Haven't decided on basic lands and kinda regret getting Ravnica BoP
Would Tireless Tracker be ok as a couple-of to smooth over draws? Maybe out of the sideboard for grindfests?
I know someone was testing Faithless Looting as another draw card.
The deck already had some mana sinks and out-valuing elements, and this dude, with a fetch pulls you ahead on draws.
Trades with a Beast token.
I want some combination of Top, Lavamancer, Barbarian Ring, + fetches, since those cards have a lot of play to them
and I love the versatility.
Was thinking of going up on fetches past 8 to better support Lavamancer, Ring, and Top , but then the Rings are too painful?
Is Ensnaring Bridge pretty much just always better than Ashen Rider? It's great to S&T into play, or just hard cast.
I'd be running Rider in sideboard for budget replacement for S&T scenarios.
It's amazing to me that people are ok with slamming turn 2 Griselbrand, slapping down instant Primeval Titans, dredging 12 power turn 1 etc, Berserk in Modern, Mox Opal existing, etc. but increasing filtering for a tempo delver deck, or increasing consistency of less broken spell based combo decks (Ad Nauseam - slow as *****, Storm - a turn, sometimes 2 faster, but easier to hate) might be a bit too scary!
I think it was massive design mistake to put so much filtering in only blue. Filtering is what gives you a chance at finding your hate cards (and we've heard tons of complaints about Modern when it comes to sideboarding...), adjusting to the game as it unfolds, etc. but since most of that kind of effect is in one color, they don't want it to warp the color pie too much around it (like it does in Legacy, though I'd argue that Brainstorm + Ponder increase diversity of viable decks).
It's not like they care about the color pie here anyway, lol. White is garbage in Modern. BGx is literally legacy staples. Blue gets Serum Visions lol.
Is this deck a good fair deck in the current meta? (looks more degenerate than ever)
Haven't played in a while (like 8 months) and have been building toward it indirectly (with Legacy RUG).
Obviously gonna be slower
Garruk is interesting, outside the obvious generators I like that for the card draw.
Full on 4 Blood Moon and 4 Stone Rain is nice.
Down on Titans and up on Baloth + Witness tells me you prob have a grindy meta.
I really like the deck in general now that the meta seems to be shifting to something slower.
How's Faithless Looting been treating you?
Farewell my first real Modern deck

More balanced if you took 1 and it was Legendary.
