The End of an Era
  • posted a message on Ender's Game
Since reading Ender's Game 10 years ago when I was a freshman in high school I have wanted to see this made into a movie. I love Ender's Game as a novel, but despite my desire to see it on film, I'm going to be very skeptical anyone can pull it off well. It is a very dark story with some extraordinarily violent prepubescent children. How a filmmaker is going to visualize some of the most important scenes and get it past the MPAA will be interesting to see. I think anything less than an R rating will fail the book miserably.

Brother lived with Shawn Fanning so I've met him. Swam against Michael Phelps at a meet in Baltimore, shook his hand after losing lol. Met Ludacris in a local liquor store in Tallahassee, FL before his concert during FSU's homecoming. Chatted with Bobby Bowden a few times before his retirement.

  • posted a message on Problem playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2
I downloaded Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from Steam recently and have been trying to play online. However, I consistently run into the same problem where the entire game will freeze up and a loud buzzing noise will issue from my headset. I can't even alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del out.. I have to force shut-off my computer, which I know isn't good for it.

I've browsed some forums looking for answers and have found some stuff saying there is a known compatibility problem between my graphics card and the game and its being worked on, but these are all from a while ago and I can't seem to find a solution. There's a lot of technical jargon I don't really understand...

    Here are my system specs:

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    Processor
    2.65 gigahertz Intel Core i7 950
    Motherboard
    EVGA 131-GT-E767 Tylersburg
    Graphics Card
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470

Any help or ideas? Maybe one of you is better at sifting through information and can find a solution somewhere on the net? I'm not very computer-literate so all I ask is that you try to please keep it simple. Thanks guys!

  • posted a message on Best Museum/Monument/Historic Site/etc.
San Francisco is home to some really awesome museums.. The Exploratorium, California Academy of Sciences, and Botanical Gardens are all very cool places to visit. Also worth mentioning are the Japanese Tea Gardens, Alcatraz, and the Museum of Modern Art.

Best historical site I've ever been to is Gettysburg, although I really would love to make it overseas at some point and visit historical sites in Europe.

Best monument is the Vietnam Memorial. Incredibly simple, yet one of the most moving experiences of my life. I'd really like to visit the Normandy landing beaches someday, though.

It's 4 vs. 3. But Churchill was chubby and Tojo had maybe some weird martial arts skills. So it could end in a stand-off.
I would guess that he would probably be on the Allied side and even it up 4v4. But I'm only making an assumption.

  • posted a message on If you had the power of Superman, what is the life and role you would choose?
I think I'd find it pretty impossible to stay away from a crime fighting, hedonistic/superstar lifestyle (as long as I knew they wouldn't give birth to people with my powers should they get knocked up). Having super-powered illegitimate children wouldn't sit well with me!

  • posted a message on Seperate Gender Bathrooms - Why?
The worst bathrooms I've ever seen have been college girls' dorm/apartment bathrooms.

I'd prefer them remain separate simply because I don't like the thought of listening to a woman go number two. Not a very sound argument, I know, but it's just the way I feel.

Are you sure you want to be sitting right across from him? No doubt he'd be a ☺☺☺☺ing great choice for a convo, it might be hard to from across the table.

Then again I'm not sure I'd want to sit next to him lol
I tried to situate the other guests so that they may have good convos with those around them. That was a difficult choice to make. I feel like if this happened I'd be more or less a passenger listening to these much smarter, much more interesting people have conversations.

    This is tough!

    1. Arsene Wenger
    2. Mike Krzyzewski
(I'm a Sport Management major interested in a career in sports and I admire these two men the most. John Wooden was considered, but I'm more inclined towards these two because I have grown up watching them coach)

    3. Warren Buffett
(A modern "Captain of Industry" and just astoundingly interesting man with oodles of wisdom)

    4. Niccolò Machiavelli
    5. Voltaire
(I'm a big fan of their works and think a conversation between them would be fascinating)

    6. Benjamin Franklin
    (Obvious reasons)

    7. Winston Churchill
    (English humor.. 'nuff said)

    Quote from KriggY
You are right, no one could known that finding one guy in a country full of mountains will take that long (I´m bit sarcastic but youre right, with all those satelites and other stuff it didnt seem that difficult)
It is an incredibly difficult task to find one man in a third world region with people very loyal to his cause protecting him. It doesn't surprise me that it took this long, but once again.. at that time there was no way anyone could have guessed how long it would take.

    Quote from KriggY
    Am I naive? Yes.
Tell me please, what would happen, if bush had accepted this proposal? The only one thing I can see is he will not get elected in next votings
This is impossible for me to answer.

    Quote from KriggY
Because, in my opininon, if Bush accepted that offer, the war would end years ago, this means less killed soldiers including those from other countries including Great Britain, France, Germany...
And I explained that at that point in time, the American public would have been furious if we negotiated with the Taliban to allow Osama to be handed to a third party country and tried in courts other than our own. Agreeing to that proposal was impossible for the Bush administration in the context of the recent events. And saying that "OMG 458937497345 people died because he didn't accept that proposal!!!!" is naive. No one could have possibly known it would take this long to capture/kill him. Hence, "hindsight is 20/20".

Hm ok, how many of US soldiers died in Afghanistan? Dont know?
Ok according to WIKI (which might be not the most reliable source of information)
    It is 1900 dead soldiers
    then 2600 US civilian supliers
    5500 Afghanistan ppl

then you have more than 15 000 injured and

20 000 casualities on Al-Káida and Taliban side.

    11th september 2001 died 2749 civilians and 350 firemen.

You need to reread my post.

    Quote from KriggY
OK tell me, who gave you the right to deal with osama through your own actions? Your avenging your death civilians, fine, i get it, but with deaths of US soldiers? With deahts of NATO soldiers? I think I can blame US for deaht of 2 our soldiers. And you even killed more civilians in this war. Not only in Afghanistan but also in Iraq.
Are you trolling?? Why can you blame the U.S. for the deaths of NATO soldiers?

    Except for:

If you don't remember, the US was quite busy bombing people at the time. The Taliban weren't too keen on being bombed so a satisfactory compromise would've been reachable.
That would never have flown with the American public at that time. A third party country? After we had just had four airliners flown into our buildings killing 3000+ of our citizens? Never in a million years. Hindsight is 20/20 but at that moment in time that offer was impossible to take.

    Quote from Rodyle
I still disagree that nationality is something to be proud of. It just creates an air of antagonism when different countries meet. Why can't we have globalism, or even better: universalism instead of this small-scale thinking?
That's a very romantic view but people are simply proud of their heritage and where they come from. It's probably been that way since people started settling in localized villages (maybe even earlier), and it will remain that way for a very long time.
