Hand 1: 7 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Lava Spike, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
Keep: this has enough 1 drops and a guide, so I would try to ride it out. There's access to white as well.

Hand 2: 6 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Lava Spike, Boros Charm.
Keep. I don't like 1 landers at 6, but I don't feel like I'm more likely to win with a 2 land 5 then this hand.

Hand 3: 5 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Boros Charm.
Keep. Going to 4 is just punting.

Hand 4: 7 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Searing Blaze, Rift Bolt, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
Mulligan. This doesn't have enough 1 drops for me to try to ride it out for a second land. I feel like a mulligan with a scry is better.

Hand 5: 7 card hand, game 2, Affinity, you're on the play. Fetch, Mountain, Goblin Guide, Spike, Spike, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
Mulligan. There's no interaction and the game is over if they put plating on something, and interacting with affinity is the only way we win.

Don´t you think that on hand 5 we were able to race them?

Hand 1: 7 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Lava Spike, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
Keep. 3 one drops and search for white.

Hand 2: 6 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Lava Spike, Boros Charm.
Keep. Probably it wont get any better on the next mull. (3 one drops already and an GG) Luckyly the scry will be on your side.

Hand 3: 5 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Rift Bolt, Boros Charm.
Keep: It wont get any better again.

Hand 4: 7 card hand, game 1, unknown opponent, you're on the play. Fetch, Goblin Guide, Eidolon, Searing Blaze, Rift Bolt, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
    Mull: To many 2 drops

Hand 5: 7 card hand, game 2, Affinity, you're on the play. Fetch, Mountain, Goblin Guide, Spike, Spike, Boros Charm, Skullcrack.
Keep: 15 damage on hand. I will give it a go.

WHOA! Just got back to magic after several years. Only playing online though. I´ve just sold almost my entire collection but decided to keep the good old burn archetype and guess what happened? yup, hooked to MTGO again. After a 10-0 on the tournament practice room I am ready for tournaments.
This is what I am packing on the sideboard:

    4 Destructive Revelry
    2 Kor Firewalker
    1 Relic of Progenitus
    2 Deflecting Palm
    3 Path to Exile
    3 Skullcrack

Kind of happy with the manabase right now and running 13 creatures (4 GG, 4 MS, 4 Eidolon, 1 Grim Lavamancer.

This deck is soooooo fun to play.

This is a build I just found that is card for card one of my builds almost to the T. All the way down to Thoughtseize that I am missing. I posted this deck on page 63 on 3/18. :p It placed 2nd in a MTGO Daily on the 3/25. I think someone copied what I posted here or on mtgvault.com :p Imitation is the finest form of flattery.

Hey, I came back to MtGO (again) after I saw your deck on the daily you mentioned. I love Death Cloud decks and modern is certainly a format that is familiar for me.

Actually I also copied your deck on MTGO almost card by card except for a couple of changes. I´ve added Druidic Satchel in the MD for 1 Lili (which I dont own) and the singleton Dismember. I´ve read once an article by Mike Flores taling about the card and really love to with it.

I am curious about Beast Within as a joker card. Another thing that I would love to try is Phyrexian Arena and Mimic Vat. I know all are semi powered cards that are unsuitable for competitive playing but I would like to throw the ideas. Also Smallpox seems interesting. Have you entered to another tournament? Does the white splash worths it?

I said that is the only "strong" reason, other are bonus inherent from the Blue it self.

For me, with peaks I'm gaining tempo and not loosing, cause I'm maximizing the damage with creatures which sooner or later will die, plus I'm building my hand to kill with burn and/or build the tempo cards with Remand and Vapor Snag, or better, with burn and tempo cards in hand. This is what make this deck stronger then Mono Red and very good against all decks. Keep the turn 4 or 5 kill constantly with all benefits of blue, MAINLY tempo.

I am sorry sir, but I dont agree that playing a CIPT land is gaining tempo. Boomerang is tempo. Remand is tempo...not Teetering peeks...
Dont you rather use mutagenic growth? I mean... it would be also tempo using your definition.

What about a hand like this? Delver, Teetering Peeks, Island, GG, GG, Magma Jet, Mana Leak (or Remand)....and your next draw is.... Keldon Marauders.. ITS A HUGE LOSS OF TEMPO! otherwise you´ll be in good shape to continue the beats of leave open mana to counter Dark Confidant or whatever they play... So...nice you will be having a 3/1 delver swing on turn to (easily killed by IDK, lightning bolt, tragic slip, gut shot, etc) and you will be way behind in the game in tempo terms.

I mean Teetering peeks can be really great...but I would play more than 1 in a double colored tempo deck. Even if you play 4 steam vents, 4 scalding tarn, and 4 sulfur falls... remember that your creatures are blocked sometimes....and at that time teetering peeks really suck.

nice discussion. i've being toying with something similar a days from now. its quite fun and fast. still have some issues to feel more comfortable with it.
certainly modern is a format were putting effort in proper testing and deck building is much more rewarding than standard right now.

    a few thoughts.

-teetering peeks is nice. but no more than 1 per deck since it is two color aggro deck. we can't afford a to have 2 of this in our opening.
-the main reason for playing blue is to flashback burn spells. i am sure we are not interested in playing UR because we are able to dig or manipulate for more burn spells, or because we can counter their sweepers or their counters. is because the unfair card advantage that snapcaster brings along with burn. so no playing snapcaster mage is a mistake imho.
-innevitability. is the i win button for aggro decks. once your initial rush is over vs a control match or vs a deck that is playing control against you; you need inevitability to make them spend extra resources. in that term i would suggest a single demonfire or maybe keldon megaliths and chandra's phoenix or whatever you feel comfortable with but falls in this category. a card that makes you win the game sooner or later (sooner the better) or make them expend extra resources to deal with or die.

what do you guys think about spell pierce or spell snare?

@ syypher, since you still want norn in there, I'd prob cut a day and maybe the slagstorm or whipflare, 4 sweepers should be fine with the amount of cards you draw and have access to. Then again, I could be completely off base.

@ tangucho that list is very interesting, is that the list Sam black ran on scg!?

    Is not.

I just was thinking in a cool 4cc control deck with planeswalkers... he convince me to use tezzeret and artifacts.

    his list is:

    2 Nihil Spellbomb
    1 Ponder
    2 Tragic Slip
    1 Contagion Clasp
    2 Ratchet Bomb
    4 Sphere of Suns
    2 Pristine Talisman
2 Sword of Feast and Famine

    4 Lingering Souls
    2 Forbidden Alchemy
    1 Liliana of the Veil

    4 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
    2 Solemn Simulacrum
    1 Phyrexian Metamorph

    1 Batterskull
    1 Karn Liberated
    1 Wurmcoil Engine
    1 Black Sun's Zenith

    plus lands.

Actually I don`t know why I didn´t included Phyrexian Metamorph neither some swords on my list.

I´ve playing like 4 hours with this list and besides being really really fun, has an edge against the field. It was inspired in a list sketched by Sam Black on SCG.com

Definitevely I would playtest this extensively but this is the kind of deck that I would like to play on a tournament right now.

Because of the deck colors mostly URwb I called the deck "United States with a Black Planeswalker as Dictator"

I abandoned Lily a few weeks ago and the deck ran so much more smoothly without her. I then saw Solar Flare doing well in the dailies with Lily and thought I would give her a shot again. Once again I was having mana troubles. In my opinion, Esper Control is so much better off as UWb and as such there is no room for Liliana. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I do. Oblivion Ring MD is excelent.

of course is not a straight UB draw and go control deck. Its more like a board control deck. mostly the style of : dig dig answer dig bomb reanimate dig dig answer bomb dig reanimate bomb dig dig dig answer. Of course a control deck cant have good matches against everything but i would certainly go heavy on sweepers right now. No less than 6... i even tested 9 sweepers and not dissapointed since slagstorm serve for other purposes as well. To be honest, with this undying mechanics and being the most powerful cards right now mostly creatures lots of sweepers is the way to go in control decks. (that or superior and faster board presence). You do need a t3 sweeper plan on the play vs zombies. Don´t like desperate ravings at all. randomness is bad general terms. and always bad in control. it narrows playability. between Faithless looting and forbidden alchemy there should be enought digging... I would also play at least a singleton Snapcaster Mage to virtually up count of other spells...

interesting list. I am glad to see that having sweepers as early as you can is endorsed by some recognized competitive players, still i like slagstorm over whipflare. I would switch the numbers of ravings and forbidden alchemy.

I see no reason to splash G for ancient grudge and ray of revelation. I think its overkilling having ratchet bomb, o rings and other solid options vs artifacts and enchantments.

Seems that opinion is that stretching mana base is not detrimental to competitiveness. Surprised that no list is running sphere of suns neither Solemn Simulacrum.

GerryT posted a new 5cc build on SCG today, it's actually pretty sweet. I just jammed a bunch of games with it and it definitely beats up on Delver just as well as Grixis, and has game against pretty much everything as there's soooo much dig and answers for anything. UB is lokely tge scariest matchup but i didnt test it (tested Yuuya Delver, Spirits, RG and Naya Pod). Also the Sun Titan endgame is as awesome as ever. This is probably not the thread for it, though (it's more WRUbg), but it's definitely a deck.

i am curious why he also included green in his deck....

isnt slagstorm worse than day of judgement or really black sun's zenith

not so sure. my impression is that meta is getting faster and one turn earlier sweeper may be relevant in a control deck. besides that slagstorm can also hit planes walkers. I really do like red right now. I can even would like to try the three of them in some numbers.
