I've acquired a Sorin. It's pretty good as a mid-range finisher. Also End of Hostilities as a reset button. I've cut back on Ulcerates completely because there's a heavy red presence at my LGS. Tasigur has been an all star and I may want a second in there. It's basically a Tarmogoyf. So I ended up 3-1 for the 3rd time last week and I'm taking it again today so lets hope that I finally get a 4-0.
I'm using the life lands instead of the scry lands because I don't want to buy scry lands. I'm finding the life gain to be pretty good. I've been thinking about going to 3-4 Soulfire Grandmasters and playing some red burn. Void Snare has been really great out of the sideboard. I'm trying to hunt down a Sorin because I feel I need a few cards like that to go the extra mile for me.
Playing more Tasigurs is an attractive option. Also this deck is getting some huge boosts from the new set. Especially Anticipate.
I put the above list into MTGO to draw some sample hands and there are too many battle effects and not enough creatures. You have 15 creatures there, which would be enough for a 40 card deck, but not a 60 card deck. The weakest cards in the opening hands were the 4-6 mana instants and sorceries. Also was drawing a lot of Plains, but I have to check the ratios on that.
Hey guys Im mostly a vintage player so when it comes to building a standard deck for my local, Im going to play with Vintage cards. Therefore, Im attempting to build a competitive Standard deck with the cards Mentor, Thoughtseize, Cruise/DTT. I'm coming to this forum for help in finding the rest of the deck. Im assuming I want a type of jeskai strategy since I know that Defiant Strike is the best cantrip. Seeker of Way has seen some high level play so I figure that can be a reliable 2 drop alongside possibly Jeskai Elder. Ulcerate and Void Snare seem like super efficient removal that enable delve, though should also have some more general purpose removal and counters.
My metagame isnt super competitive but there will definitely be at least one of each deck represented Im sure. Can someone help me draft up a list that seems to play good cards?
Both are really good. Skylasher is the best turn 2 play while Hydra is better in the late game... But Hydra is also really good against UW decks while Skylasher is a little worse
I've never had a serious problem with Ooze because I can fill the grave faster than they can tap out to RFG stuff; they take a big hit on tempo and then I just kill it with Shadowborn or swing in with a flying Lotleth Troll...
I leave in mana dorks against U/W/x as an incentive for them to Supreme Verdict and basically beat them with bestow. You're right though its all about the slow roll.
My concern is Hexproof... I can't think of a really good way to beat them other than just trying to force out a big dude that may get Selesnya Charmed or Chained. Slum Reaper doesnt work because they play Voice. Im thinking Thoughtseize is the only realistic strategy
I just took 2nd in todays PE, fairly easily, with the same list. My thoughts are that Deathrite Shaman and Nemesis are the weakest cards in the deck as they are generally what I look to side out first.
I had been playing the Jund verson and switched to G/B for speed. Demannic's list is what I started with and never felt a need for change because Im winning 75% of the time or more
Lotleth Troll beats Bile Blight because on turn 2 against 2 mana you're playing a Satyr Wayfinder or passing with Commune/Grisly. Then when they tap out for connections, you unleash with 2 threats (Nemesis+Troll, Nighthowler, Herald) They're then forever trying to catch-up while you cast multiple, cheap threats every turn. (Bestow is a double threat)
2 Shattering Spree
4 Grafdigger's Cage
3 Surgical Extraction
2 Pyroblast
Also, Eidolon of the Great Revel
3 Flooded Strand
19 lands
3 Monastery Mentor
4 Seeker of the Way
1 Soulfire Grandmaster
1 Tasigur, the Golden Fang
1 Dig Through Time
4 Defiant Strike
2 Hero's Downfall
1 Banishing Light
1 Utter End
3 Thoughtseize
3 Bile Blight
4 Disdainful Stroke
1 Valorous Stance
1 Murderous Cut
3 Glare of Heresy
4 Erase
3 Negate

$3 gets you 2x every common in khans and you gotta make a 60 card deck. so what do I play?
