This seems decent in reanimator shells, maybe. It's not the most impressive creature, but it gets itself in the yard much more easily than any other reanimator target, plus it's still a 2-turn clock.

Also, it's uncommon for Peasant cubes! And who doesn't want to reanimate Godzilla?!

This is absolutely bonkers. Not an amazing card itself, but guaranteed starting with this card is gonna be insane.

Honestly the biggest drawback to Purphoros is that there is no redundancy to the effect he offers. Having only one copy of this in your deck when he is the linchpin for the strategy is a bummer. I'd kill to have a playable mini-Purphoros (1 damage) or another cubeable variant of Purphoros. I like this direction for red much much more than the Wildfire archtype which I've never really cared for.

Yeah, impact tremors on a 2-drop creature would be pretty cool.

What about spell swindle? No restriction on timing of mana use, no need to splash green, but costs 1 more.

Venser, Shaper Savant or Glen Elendra Archmage?

It might see play in an aggro deck that really really needs another 2-drop, but I also agree I wouldn't categorise this in colorless. Porcelain Legionnaire, on the other hand...

It's a great card, but it just doesn't make my top 5 Selesnya cards. I rank Militant, Knight of Autumn, Finks, Pridemage, and Chant above it (although, you likely don't need both Chant and Pridemage in a small to middle sized cube). If you push a lands matter theme, Knight of the Reliquary is more important. So while VoR is awesome, I can see lots of cubes just not having the space for it.

    Cheers,
    rant

I am surprised that Dryad Militant is so highly regarded. To me it is a bland 2/1 1-drop that is outclassed by any other 1 drop that would be ran in the decks that might want it (white or green).

I don't support green aggro, so I play Dryad Militant as a white Savannah Lions with upside. I think its upside matters more than cards like Dragon Hunter, Skymarcher Aspirant, or Venerable Knight, for example.

Thanks for the writeup, wtwlf123! Always look forward to these articles.

At 360 powered, I'm personally testing out Nadir Kraken, Phoenix of Ash and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. Sad to hear that the Kraken was too mana-intensive in testing! I'm testing Phoenix of Ash since I don't really want all 5 Rabblemasters at 360. I'm also hoping that the Dryad can further enable the lands deck, but it's probably a pipe dream at current time. Agree that the rest of the set is pretty mediocre, though.

I mean, there are multiple combo cards that are, um, not mediocre.

No storm or aristocrats or persist combos in my cube, and the Heliod/Ballisa combo is too slow.

    Pick 1:
    Accorder Paladin
    Adanto Vanguard
    Charming Prince
    Glory-Bound Initiate
    Imposing Sovereign

Also, which would you rather run - Ancient Stone Idol, or Emrakul the Promised End?

The Idol works with tinker/welder and is arguably better with sneak attack/TTB/Feldon since it leaves behind a 6/12 dude. Emrakul flies, and has a cast trigger (although it's probably not getting hardcast often). Both work reasonably well with reanimator or Show and Tell.

Only two cards I'm really interested in.
Will test Nadir Kraken and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove

Also going to change to the new Nyx basics!

Great card if you're looking for another 4CC wrath. Works great with Gideons.

With this out, Arbor Elf can also untap Gaea's Cradle. Rofellos is a little better, but it's not like he needed any help in the first place.

This is worse than Supreme Will/Miscalculation at 1UU, and it's passable at 2UU - but then it's competing with the likes of Cryptic Command and Mystic Confluence. Probably a pass for me.

I really really want the lands deck to be a thing in cube, it seems like sweet synergy. This/Oracle of Mul Daya/Fastbond as redundant effects, and Life from the Loam/Wrenn and Six/Crucible of Worlds/Ramunap Excavator seems like the tits.

This does very little outside of that deck, though.

We do support the deck and this new card seems crazy good in it. Can't beleive it's real. Last thing we had as similar was Wayward Swordtooth. The RIX Dino looks silly next to it.

What's your cube environment? I have a 360 powered list and slots are pretty tight, but I still enjoy a couple of build arounds which aren't embarrassing, like wildfire, opposition, sneak attack and co. Does your lands.dec measure up well in terms of power and consistency?
