def looks like the coolest mono-G list Ive ever made. Im excited to get some cards and sleeve this up. Anyone have any stories about times theyve played this beauty?
I know the OP said all in combo but what about this combo in a stax shell since this is in blue & white? Keep opponents a few steps behind as we ramp into the commander and hopefully their resources are so jammed up that they cant disrupt the combo when youre set up to go off.
I would think you would want the ability to give Ertai haste once you play him and be able to use his ability more than once around tbhe table etween untap steps.
if you're playing politics you don't need to run so many big dudes. maybe use those slots for more control spells. you basically wanna quietly creep your way into the final 2 at the table with more life and resources than the other player and then tutor up a win-con.
I'm still running 2 act of aggression in my sideboard because even though eldrazi aren't as much of a threat anymore, its pretty fun to hit someone with their own Kalitas to help close out a game.
No so much budget but its def not a $1000 deck. One thing Ive learned about running ashling is that you really don't want to spend too much mana on other spells. you want to keep pumping her as much as possible. Everyone else at the table will leave you alone once they realize you have your finger on the blow everything up button. Sit back and watch others beat each other up. swing in at someone with poor defenses every now and then. I always mulligan into a mana doubler / hearthstone. I want to be able to have enough mana to blow the board up as early as turn 5. The notes on the deck there aren't current but it gives you a good idea how to play this mana hungry mama.
What Ive found works best with playing Ashling is not spending too much mana on other spells cuz you want to constantly be putting 2 counters on her. During your turn during other players turns. always have 6 mana available to blow up the board. Unless the card is making a big splash, I stick to spells that cost 3 or less.
Other cards I would highly recommend that are still budget:
Opal Palace helps you regain some counters if Ashling keeps dyin.
Loxodon Warhammer the cheapest of all equipment that synergize well with Ashling. But theres a handful that go really well with Ashling. Also get a Godo, Bandit Warlord to tutor them up and onto the battlefield.
Warp World - Best way to board wipe Ive found. We never have much to lose. Deals with indestructible creatures we cant damage with Ashling and deals with pesky artifacts and enchantments
Chandra's Ignition & then blow up Ashling is the best way to win a game ever
you could also run Fork to either copy an opponents tutor spell since we don't have lots of good tutors in red or well... fork Chandra's Ignition
4 color hybrid mana cost commanders like reaper king. maybe they are all tribal lords and they also will have some sort of allied pair costed activated ability. So you can build them as all 4 colors or cut them down to 2 color allied pair.
Fetch lands make no sense. The painless mana base is one of our biggest advantages with this deck. So often our opponents are at 17 after T1 because of a fetch and a shock while we're still at 20. Why mess with that 3 life head start when really all we need to do is bash them for 17 more as quickly as possible?
also was there any mention of jolrael, empress of beasts as another political anti-boardwipe play similar to Kamahl, Fist of Krosa? "Oh you're gonna board wipe? Cool you're gonna lose all your lands if you do so buddy." She also would make a decent win-con
Luv this deck. I used to run a Sasaya deck that sometimes left me high and dry for a few turns with lots of mana once it flipped but nothin to sink it into. This is everything Ive been looking for in a mono-G ramp deck.
2 cards missing that I think should be considered: Nullmage Shepherd - tap some newly made saprolings to clear out unwanted pillow fort & stax spells before sac-ing them to pump the attackers.
Exploration - always feels like the strongest T1 play for any green deck.
I don't like the idea of having the same deck as everyone else, do you think Tangle Golem over Leaherbaack Baloth is a bad idea tho, or does this deck get stuck at 3 mana a lot.
umm the Baloth is 3 more devotion for Aspect of the Hydra. its a pretty integral part of the deck.
Between losing 2 devotion to G and it still being able to be bolted the turn you play it, I think we have better & faster 3 drop options
- lightning greaves
- thousand-year elixir
- puppet strings

you might want to run Talrand, Sky Summoner or another token generator to sac to your general. Starfield of Nyx and maybe even Emeria, the Sky Ruin would help recur your sac fodder if you can't get reassembling skeleton online.
I like where this is headed. I've always wanted to see a good political Esper build.

For example Caged Sun & Gauntlet of Power could maybe be Heartstone & Mana Flare or Extraplanar lens (not exactly budget tho)

Never seen Damping Matrix before. What are you siding it in against?
