Seriously, another copycat of a cube staple. What the heck is wrong with this set. There used to be a thing call innovation...
Still a great card but man, I would prefer not to have to make a choice between both version of an already perfectly fine card. And not to run both either...
I guess this is where my planeswalker collection dies, boys. It had a good run, but my wallet just wouldn't survive.
One being in every single pack of the set will maintain the average price low. I guess most of them will cost less than a buck. Your wallet should be safe then Although, they are certainly not going to be on the same level of rarity. Some may cost a bunch.
It reminds me a lot of C14 Ob Nixilis. Pseudo do nothing primary [+] ability and a [-] that repeatedly creates evasive tokens. Except it's better in all points. Cheaper. Better stats/ability ratio. Relevant ultimate. It looks quite strong and for us deservess testing at the very least.
The more we think about, the more we think this card could do some serious work in our unfair section of the cube. On T3, if you curve out and face no opposing creatures, it basicly shock your opponent. And then it snowballs when you cast some more creatures and sacoutlet. The only aspect we don't like about it is that it's pretty bad at attacking itself. A 2/2 for 3 is kinda weak. But on the other hand, Blood Artist and such (while costing only 2) are even worst in that matter and are still great. Might test. But need space...
Yes this card is certainly great. We keep saying to other cube managers that don't run it that they are crazy not to. An absolute most have in power cubes that have a guild section with at least 4 spots. But personnally, I do agree it's in fact top 3 material.
I agree that StW is undervalued in general in the cube community. It's not technically better than Kaya's Wrath, but last one's CMC is so much restrictive that it is certainly more playable. FWIW, people doesn't play around StW in cube like they do in constructed formats. It helps the card to shine even more.
This thing could be Delvers 5-8 for constructed decks (though each creature you add makes both marginally worse), but I'm not even sure Delver itself is good enough for small cubes.
I think it's better than it looks for cube since in there, in contrast to constructed formats, it would act as a Delver of Secrets #2. Spell matter aggro decks now has another option to curve out without having to run too much creatures like Kiln Fiend for example. Runaway Steam-Kin is another card that tend to go into this direction, but in a more mono-red way. FWIW, it was kind of impressive recently in the MTGO cube.
If you're really deep on the Delver of Secrets-type Spells Matters archetype, I could see this making a splash for your playgroup. But I think the concentration of spells needed for this card to be good is probably a bit too high for cube.
On the other hand, since you brought Delver of Secrets, it's kind of nice that WotC is trying to create some more good blue aggro cards, especially 1-drops. Someday, maybe there would be enough needed pieces like this one in order to build a complete blue aggro suit that reflect something really unique and different from the other colors. Definitly a interesting design.
If we weren't running Night Incarnate, the only card we'd considered to cut for this among regular 4CMC wrath would be Languish. And that would mean a precious guild slot would also have to be sacrifice in order to make space . Not sure we'd make that move just to create a new black spot available. Maybe if we needed another one, we'd be inclined to add it. But since the cube has been subdivised into three modules (Base, Fair and Unfair), average cube sessions count less than 540 cards each time. I don't think a 5th 4CMC is needed at that size. Night Incarnate for its part is in there just for fun matter. Nice creature to recure.
In fact, I think this card has been created more with standard in mind that anything else. It's certainly a potent answer to Carnage Tyrant and still mostly unseen 4CMC+ creatures in the format.
I think this card has a shot to be good in cube. Instant speed Rabid Bite that hit planeswalkers is not something we see very often. Being hybrid is also important at evaluating this part of the card. Seems pretty push to me. And a 4/4 trample for 4 is not a bad floor either. I like it pretty much in fact. I think it may be on par with some of the commonly seen top 5 to top 7 gruul cards.
I agree, Titania looks insane in that deck.
I would say 99.9% of cubes don't have that degree of lands support, AND you had to managed to get them all in the same deck heh. That's not easy.
Even when things wheel and the archetype is open, sometimes you get clumps of the support in the same pack, or have to decide between a wayward swordtooth and a birds of paradise or something. Honestly, I'm skeptical you didn't just make this list up, it's that rare to happen to get all these pieces AND 9 non-basic lands.
It's a 100% accurate drafted list that fought against Grixis Artifact, Mardu Purphorous and UB Reanimator. What would be the point to craft a list like this on top of my head anyway. It wouldn't have served the discussion well.
BTW,in your draft sequence example, I would simply take the elf and let possibly wheel the dino. And during the draft, I remember that the deck pilot did let wheel a Wasteland and some fetch in order to draft the draft correctly.
I don’t think I would run a card which cost 3GG and made 2 5/3s. Titania is too unreliable at this point I think - as noted the floor is just dreadful.
I agree. But most of the time, it litterally made infinite 5/3 in this deck, sometimes followed by infinite damage with Goblin Bombardment.
There a list in which she shined recently. No need of that much fetch lands, but I agreed to Titania needs way to put land into your yard. Here, we had KotR, Gitrog, Zuran Orb and Dust Bowl as repeatable effects. Windswept Heath, Evolving Wilds, Ghost Quarter and Gemstone Mine did also help a little. FWIW, this deck ended up undeafeated in a 4-man pod.
Still a great card but man, I would prefer not to have to make a choice between both version of an already perfectly fine card. And not to run both either...
