So, I'm pretty sure Fiend Artisan could be abused with Intruder Alarm. You can abuse Heritage Druid's lack of haste requirement and fetch up Dwynen's Elite.. hmmm.... Maybe it's too brittle with the need for Intruder Alarm though. Thoughts?
Good to see you back here CurdBros!
I just saw Beast Whisperer and immediately thought of this thread too. Beast Whisperer certainly breathes new life into both Curio and Intruder brewing efforts. My initial suspicion is that dying to bolt (and revolted push) this might be too fragile. I wonder if Yeva, Nature's Herald or Leyline of Anticipation could help..
Pretty exciting nonetheless, and I can't wait to see where brewers on this thread take this!
After running the curio/evolutionary leap version for a while
Interesting! I've seen Curio builds (I've been running one myself recently) and Evo Leap builds, but never together! Would you please post you list and explain how it works for you ?
akroma, angel of fury? That is either super ballsy or just terrible. His literal only way to get it in play is vialing up to 8.
I like the mindcensors and split on baby/big Thalias though.
Not quite - if you play it as a morphed creature then flicker it (with one of 6 options in that build - 4 Flickerwisp or 2 Restos) it comes back on to the battlefield face up.
I think it looks pretty sweet, but in that kind of build I'd be more inclined to use Eldrazi Displacer instead of say Copters. That said, it *is* in the sideboard so obviously just a 'fun of' and not a major wincon / focus of the deck.
Hmmm.. interesting. Finally a new toy that might find a place in at least one variant of combo elves - Growing Rites of Itlimoc
It's a safer, less broken Gaea's Cradle. I can't see it having much of a place anywhere except perhaps a Cloudstone Curio build that includes other enchantments like Oath of Nissa and Abundant Growth, but I'm still just starting to mull this card over. What do you, my fellow combo-elf-players think?
WOot! Ross Merriam has top 4'd (and still going!) with an elf build in the SCG Open today (Aug 13). It's pretty light on combo, in that there's only only one Vizier, but in the the quarter finals he destroyed Robots on turn 3 with infinite mana and turn 4 using Ezuri Pump + Devoted Druid.
Edit: Ross ended up third in the modern open, losing against Grixis Death Shadow in the semis. An interesting point to note is that he played without Horizon Canopy, which he couldn't acquire in time for the tournament (and wasn't willing to drop ~$100/each on!). Given his success, it makes one wonder how important Horizon Canopy is - did he do well in the tournament because he didn't have it or did he ultimately lose in the semis because a well timed Horizon Canopy would've given him the out he needed ?
Funny enough, despite holding the torch out for Intruder elves, I've pretty much switched to GW Curio Elves. I've been having a lot more success with it. But then I see there was a recent result with Intruder Elves, and Connely Woods has been honing a (non-elf) Intruder Alarm brew that is a hoot! I've watched him stream a few games and it seems a bit more consistent than my efforts to leverage the elf horde. So many angles to brew, so little time.
update: A bit offtopic since it's not elf related - this video has Conley playing for several hours including a discussion about sideboarding and deck discussion at ~4:20 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/158190697
Here's a list i've brewed. This time, the focus is around an unassuming common from Amonkhet (Supernatural Stamina)
Woof! With Lingering Souls & Fatal Push I kind of figured Esper spirits would be a very strong build, but you're absolutely right that Supernatural Stamina looks like it's a beater in this deck - so much synergistic utility with the rest of our creatures! Thanks for bringing it up!
I'll post the tuned list this week (I play Green Devotion too; so it takes me time to get a good volume of testing in for both)...but thus far I'm very happy with it.
Just a friendly reminder that some of us are patiently waiting to see your new list
It's cool that there's a nod to the concept, but that article was pretty low effort. It doesn't appear to bring anything new to the table - no playtesting, no videos, just rough theorycrafting around a known (but obscure) build. Also, there's some notable omissions of important synergystic cards - notably no Forbidden Orchard).
I wish I had time to prioritize testing some newer approaches to intruder alarm elves, there's a lot to explore! I just discovered Scryb Ranger and haven't put much time into testing Duskwatch Recruiter either yet. That said, with Death's Shadow being the king of the hill, it's really hard to take this build too seriously if it's too dependent on actually landing an Intruder Alarm when they pack 6-8 one mana discard spells.
For reference - here a is link to Mr. Juza's WG Vizier Elf Combo Deck. It's an interesting build in it doesn't deviate too much from earlier beatdown elf lists, only replacing four dorks with Devoted Druids and the addition of a single Vizier of Remedies.
I'm not a pro, but his list seems a bit undeveloped. Since he's playing white, I wonder if Mr.Juza tried including Mirror Entity? Or having a wincon other than Ezuri, Renegade Leader?
Looks good - though with that list (i.e. with four legendary cards) Minamo, School at Water's Edge would probably be fine addition - especially the synergy with Ojutai!
Your list looks pretty sweet. I wonder though, (and maybe this is just buying into the hype) but why not adopt a "if you can't beat 'em, join'em" approach and add some Death's Shadow since you're already playing the colours with a focus on low CMC creatures?
Growth-Chamber Guardian being both an elf and a warrior looks like it might combo with Bramblewood Paragon.
