Is there a consensus on the proper manabase? I have been running the typical fetch + shock setup but looking at the SCG Invitational, it appears that is being eschewed for a manabase more akin to Legacy with 4 Gemstone and 4 Mana Confluence.
I took out the infinite mana combos before GPDC. At one point I wanted an exsanguinate but I was okay without it. I was forced to use stroke on myself for my deck then recur it a couple of times on multiple people.
Last pod I played in at GPDC it was against two friends I had played before. They both picked up aggressive generals and said they were going to try to swing out on me. Turn 1 Land Vampiric Tutor for Mana Crypt. Turn 2 Mana Crypt, Land, Deceiver Exarch. Turn 3 Splinter Twin. Obviously all of the early game combos involve a good deal of cards. That is why I am literally running every tutor available.
To be honest, I am not familiar enough with the Hermit decks to be able to make changes unless I actually play with them.
I did play a couple of games with a guy running Damia re-animator that was viscous. I have been playing with a list for that too.
Counter magic is all over the place at competitive events. Silence was a card I've been tossing around. This weekend I was able to hide behind someone's defense grid which was nice.
Some cards are left over from previous builds. Exsanguinate and Diabolic Revelations for example. The previous iterations were built more for a longer game running Mana Reflection and the like.
Impulse should be in, I agree with that.
Krosan Grip is run just due to the vast amount of Omniscience based combo in our meta, it really is cut throat.
-Exsanguinate, -Diabolic Revelations, -Fact or Fiction
+Impulse, +?, +?
Any other ideas? I don't particularly feel the need for a second artifact\enchantment hate card but it isn't bad either. More draw options?
Yea, I am the Sliver Queen player, and the deck is consistent turn 3 with multiple turn 1 - 3 lines. Even if it doesn't, it sets itself up for multiple redundant lines later. This is the list currently; http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sliver-queen-combo-1/
This deck, although it has changed a bit, won both GP Atlantic City large events for foil Ravnica sets, over 300 packs from GP AC and GP Philly (I was actually asked to sit out a little while at GP Philly), and numerous local events.
Fun plays of the past;
Land, Lotus Petal, Mana Crypt, Demonic Tutor for Sol Ring, Sol Ring, Timetwister.
Land, Mana Crypt, Show and Tell, Conflux
Land, Lotus Petal, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Academy Rector, Cabal Therapy.
Obviously these are amazingly uncommon but the sheer number of tutors lets you pretty much set up each game.

Is a fairly old list but the core is there. It isn't nearly as optimized as it could be though.
