yea like the guy after you suggested, I was stating that Jace and Elspeth started low and stores/vendors felt like they got burned because of their later price spikes that ended up being sustained for a long while. So to mitigate that effect they start all walkers off high, so they can't get burned like that again.

    Thats not how prices work...

    The dealers have 2 options

    1) Charge less than what people will pay

    2) Charge *what* people are willing to pay

So this notion that Shops drive up prices is just plain wrong... they can drive them down if they want to (aka not making a profit) or they can actually sell their product...

What drives prices up are the buyers, if no one where willing to pay the price, it goes down - the reason a card is expensive is because people pay it... plain and simple... so stop blaming the shops who is a big reason Magic still exists

What colors are you playing? and what formats?

Honestly i have never found white enchantments to be good... a few of them are decent, but they rarely do much by themself...

But most more info and perhaps we can help identify the issue Smile

The only thing that seems odd to me is the "...everyone else got a Contagion Clasp promo card" Those are the FNM promo's and there should only be 4 any given week First and second should each get one, and then 2 others at "random"

As for a flat prize structure, thats imo how it should be at an FNM Smile

We have had an influx of females at our LGS lately... as of late about 20% of the FNM are female...

As far as I know you have to now be affiliated with a B&M store to hold sanctioned events, so you won't be able to just hold them for your school. That's the only time having T.O. status with the DCI would matter, so if you don't care about sanctioning go for it. There should be free swiss tournament tools you can use online, especially if you're not overly picky about how tiebreakers work. Perhaps repick rares for prizes?

You have to affiliated with a B&M if you wan premier events (FNM, Prereleases etc) if you just wanna do regular sanctioned small events... go ahead, the only restriction is that it has to be a "public" place, so the school is fine - your parents basement, not so much

My wife and I have a combined income of a little under $100K (before taxes), but we were flat broke when we put a down payment on our house last December. After paying taxes, a mortgage, and supporting a kid, we've still managed to save $40K in the last ten months. Even if we don't invest that and never get a raise, we'll still be millionaires by the time we're 60!

Well if you dont invest in something with a higher yield than your Mortgage interest you would probably be better of just increasing payments on that instead of saving :p

It seem you two have been smart and chosen to live sligthly below your means in order to have a solid financial buffer should something unforeseen happen... most people i know who make 50k a year often spents all of it (or perhaps even more)

I must admit im impressed, saving up 4.000 dollars a month AND paying on a mortgage AND still manage to eat - kudos if only the rest of america was as financially sound as you guys we wouldnt be in the financial crisis.

To often i see people with insane credit card debts, and other high interest debt spent on items / activities which now have little or no value.

What does your service cost, and what do you get for that? (Just trying to compare here. Odds are it IS cheaper).

It used to be 1 year contracts $100 or 2 year contracts for free phones. Then it started climbing. The newest Android 4.0 devices are 2 year contracts +$300. They bury this new iphone in speed and power.

Not having a 4g antenna is a HUGE fail to anyone who isn't sucked up by the apple hype and a big letdown to the faithful.

To get a Cheap phone you often have to chose the "high end" subscription, so for the first 6 months you pay 70 USD a month and get unlimted talk, Texts, and Data @ 7,2 mbps without tethering restrictions (everything except foreign calls) - then after the 6 months is over you can chose one of the cheaper plans if you want to...

How about regular internet? at home i have a 90 mbit fiber line (both up and down) for which i pay ~60 USD a month... how does that compare?

The standard contract length is 2 years in the United States. The carrier offers a substantial subsidy on phones, however, so it makes sense that our contracts are longer. For example, the iPhone 4S will only be $200 w/ a 2/yr agreement here in the US.

We get subsidisied phones aswell, i dont have pricing on the new 4S's yet, but an "old" 32gb iPhone 4 costs 160 USD (899 DKK) on a 6 month contract.

What is a standard contract lenght in the states? i see alot of people claiming they have a year left... a normal contract over here runs 6 months...

As for the new iPhone, i doubt my boss sees a reason to replace my one year old 4 just for a better camera... but ofcourse i will try Wink

Are we talking Gross or Net? (aka before or after taxes)?

after taxes 2 incomes of 30.000 each would make for a fine living imo. Not exstravagant, but fine...

Went to FNM this friday and bought the WW deck... it was good fun, and i went 4-0 i spiced it about 4 cards simply because some of the choices seemed off to me... the 1/1 for 1 seemed subpar... but all in all... a functioning deck, and a large step up from the precons of the past...

    Quote from fnord
Very close to every MTGO draft is the equivalent of Regular REL.

    How do you Figure?

REL stands for "Rules Enforcement Level", and since breaking the game rules on MTGO is impossible, there is no need to enforce them... hence MTGO doesnt have a REL...

    Quote from Valarin
The only way you can do it is to pre open packs, stamp the cards, and repack them. And NO LGS is going to bother with that. Cheating is just a fact of life. If you feel like the drafting environment inyour store is full of cheaters, don't play.

Not to mention that people would start to accuse the LGS og taking all the good rares... if just a single draft has no "chase-cards" people start to get suspicious..
