They made the Zendikar expedition trying to sell the set at this point imho
- L
Seeing as how I only play Modern, (Standard is too expensive). I like how I only have to buy playsets of some uncommons. I'm saving money.
Playsets of Scythe Leopard, Blisterpod, Retreat to Coralhelm, Zulaport Cutthroat & Stasis Snare and I'm done with this set. Don't care about expeditions. Have playsets of them already.
Pathway Arrows: if they ever print a playable Deathtouch dude, then I could see this possibly being a thing (like the old Grim Lavamancer/Basilisk Collar Team Italy tech from Legacy). You can even fetch it with Trinket Mage. Right now it doesn't do much though unless you wanna go deep with Typhoid Rats
Unified Front: This looks strong to me. For a deck that triggers multiple times for each creature coming into play. This leaves you with twice the amount of triggers as CoCo does. Of course playing it for Sunburst = 4 is pretty tough, especially with the new Ally land.
Kalastria Healer: Having some reach in Allies seems decent. Though I guess they already have the dude that gives pro a color.
I think Pathway Arrows might be a standard archetype. With Deathmist Raptor, Den Protector, Fathom Feeder, Soulflayer, Heir of the Wilds. It'd play as a aggro board control deck. If they ever print a deathtouch hexproof with CMC 2ish creature for Modern tho..
Yes, worthless IMO. Modern T1 is SOOO important. Risking it with ETB tapped lands is too risky. I would want to see one of them in my opening hand. Maybe we'll see a 1 or 2 of in some lists. Who knows.
I want to reiterate that this is just my opinion.
COLORLESS: Endless One - CMC 0 combo maybe? Void Winnower - Another target for Gifts Rites.dec against certain matchups?
LAND:
Tangolands are horrible IMO. Will be worthless when rotate out of standard. Ally Encampment - If Ally Vial Company ever becomes a thing...
Blighted lands are good. Will be seeing 1-ofs in many lists. Lumbering Falls > Shambling Vent. Missing 4 toughness on both these cards makes me think won't see much play tho.
Okay. The problem with making this more of a control deck is that the chance of drawing the colosus is a lot bigger. So you would need something like see beyond to make that work. I would probably all so run a lot of counters. Maybe even pact of negation.
Faithless Looting will cycle the Colossus back into your library. Read Colossus text. I agree 4-8 counters needed.
A question about shape anew. Can the opponant kill your thopter in response to the shape anew cast? And that way make it fizzle ?
Yes. Same as if an opponent killed your Deceiver Exarch in response to your Splinter Twin. Same weaknesses that apply there apply here. Enemy Spellskites can change Shape Anew to themselves also. However Shape Anew will cycle the Spellskite into something else. Prolly another Spellskite. When your thopter dies however you are still left with Blade Splicer or Thopter Engineer for chump blocking. Interesting note to that though is Shape Anew can be targeted with Snapcaster Mage whereas Splinter Twin cannot.
I like. But I think I would -4 Faithless Looting and +4 Remand maindeck because of Bloom Titan, Grislebrand Reanimator, Splinter Twin, Tron and others. Or maybe +4 Izzet Charm just in case you draw Blightsteel Colossus.Edit: Duh, Faithless looting. Maybe -4 Serum Visions + Remand then.
Hello. Very interesting deck. i really like the idea!. You just need some more filtering perhaps? to find Shape anew.
What about runnnig Thopter Spy Network for an alternate win con?
I don't know if I need to rush to get the combo through filtering. I think this deck want to play a grindier game and then win out of nowhere. e.g. Opponent taps out for something, play Inkmoth, activate, Shape Anew. I looked at Thopter Spy Network but feel adding more 4 drops would hurt the deck too much.
Basic idea from Magic Origins: T3 Thopter Engineer T4 Shape Anew into Blightsteel Colossus. Attack with 11/11 Trample, infect, indestructible, haste. GG? Add splinter twin shell as backup combo.
For me, this card fits perfectly in Modern Combo Elves. Sacrificing excess elves that have tapped from Heritage Druid to get more elf fuel. Don't know about any other format.
T3 WINS:
T1 Stomping Grounds, Arbour Elf.
T2 Forest, Tap Arbour Elf, Overgrowth
T3 Forest, Tap Arbour Elf, Desperate Ritual, Tooth or Dragonstorm for Karrthus & Atarka.
T1 Forest, Arbour Elf.
T2 Forest, Utopia Sprawl, Tap Arbour Elf, Garruk, Make Token.
T3 Forest, Garruk untap Utopia Spawl + land, Arbour Elf untap Utopia Sprawl, Tooth.
Does spirit Bond work in a deck like this where you can pay W and make a 1/1 flyer each time you play a creature? The spirits can also help protect Ana.
Thanks. Spirit Bonds is a cool card I missed. Also, what do we think of Gallows at Willow Hill. Can tap norin for it. Can take out Emrakul, the Aeons Torn which is funny flavour wise. Imagining Emrakul being hung from that flimsy thing is absurd.

WHITE:
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar - Better than Elspeth? As good as Elspeth? Allies Vial Company.dec?
Kor Bladewhirl - Allies Vial Company.dec?
Lantern Scout - Better than Talus Paladin IMO because can be hit with Collected Company and Vial.
Stasis Snare - Anything that can deal with Emrakul at instant speed needs testing.
BLUE:
Horribly Awry - Comparable to Essence Scatter. 1 or 2 of in some lists maybe.
Part the Waterveil - Taking Turns.dec might replace Walk the Aeons and finisher.
Retreat to Coralhelm - Already reading combo lists with Knight of the Reliquary.
BLACK:
Zulaport Cutthroat - Blood Artist & Rally the Ancestors combo decks.
RED:
Crumble to Dust - Replaces Sowing Salt in anti tron SBs
Molten Nursery - Eggs.dec finisher?
GREEN:
Beastcaller Savant - Replace Harabaz Druid. Probably not.
Blisterpod - Blood Artist & Rally the Ancestors combo decks.
Greenwarden of Murasa - Bias. Personal favorite. I want to chain this, Eternal Witnesss and Woodland Bellowers off a Summoning Trap. Why? Because F*** YOU Remand.
Scythe Leopard - Acts like Wild Nacatl alot of the time.
Undergrowth Champion - This might be really good against aggro and bolts. Needs testing. A 4/4 double prevent wall beater on T3 is interesting.
MULTI:
Bring to Light - Some kinda combo. I'm very doubtful.
Brutal Expulsion - I'm gonna say nope this isn't good enough. However needs testing.
Fathom Feeder - No Baleful Strix, but getting closer. Testing.
COLORLESS:
Endless One - CMC 0 combo maybe?
Void Winnower - Another target for Gifts Rites.dec against certain matchups?
LAND:
Tangolands are horrible IMO. Will be worthless when rotate out of standard.
Ally Encampment - If Ally Vial Company ever becomes a thing...

Thoughts? Anything I might of missed?

1 Blightsteel Colossus
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Thopter Engineer
4 Izzet Charm
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lightning Helix
3 Path to Exile
2 Remand
4 Shape Anew
2 Spell Snare
4 Celestial Colonnade
1 Hallowed Fountain
4 Inkmoth Nexus
1 Island
1 Mountain
1 Plains
1 Sacred Foundry
3 Scalding Tarn
3 Steam Vents
2 Sulfur Falls
Shape now has 12 targets. 4 Inkmoth Nexus, 4 Blade Splicer, 4 Thopter Engineer.
Plus 4 Snapcaster Mage can target Shape Anew for those long grindy control games.
Edit: Izzet Charm over Mana Leak and Electrolize. In case we draw Blightsteel.
3 Sylvan Scrying
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
2 Ghirapur Gearcrafter
4 Thopter Engineer
4 Deceiver Exarch
2 Pestermite
4 Splinter Twin
4 Shape Anew
4 Scapeshift
1 Blightsteel Colossus
4 Steam Vents
2 Forest
2 Island
2 Flooded Grove
2 Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Mountain
3 Inkmoth Nexus
1 Breeding Pool
4 Faithless Looting
4 Tormenting Voice
4 Myr Battlesphere
4 Trash for Treasure
But I kept wanting to put in 4 Darksteel Citadel and 4 Ensoul Artifact but citadel doesn't work well with Shape Anew.
Edit: Or even Ideas Unbound
Basic deck:
4 Shape Anew
2 Blightsteel Colossus
4 Ghirapur Gearcrafter
4 Thopter Engineer
4 Deceiver Exarch
2 Pestermite
2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
4 Splinter Twin
4 Serum Visions
4 Remand
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
18 Other land.
Thoughts?
T1 Heritage Druid
T2 Dwynen's Elite, tap, Evolutionary Leap, sac token.
= SCARY
4 Dragonstorm
1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1 Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund
2 Dragonlord Kolaghan
1 Atarka, World Render
4 Arbor Elf
4 Overgrowth
4 Utopia Sprawl
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Lotus Bloom
4 Wooded Foothills
11 Forest
1 Mountain
T3 WINS:
T1 Stomping Grounds, Arbour Elf.
T2 Forest, Tap Arbour Elf, Overgrowth
T3 Forest, Tap Arbour Elf, Desperate Ritual, Tooth or Dragonstorm for Karrthus & Atarka.
T1 Forest, Arbour Elf.
T2 Forest, Utopia Sprawl, Tap Arbour Elf, Garruk, Make Token.
T3 Forest, Garruk untap Utopia Spawl + land, Arbour Elf untap Utopia Sprawl, Tooth.
Thoughts?
4 Shorecrasher Elemental
4 Silumgar Spell-Eater
4 Vesuvan Shapeshifter
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Spreading Seas
4 Exhaustion
4 Gigadrowse
Cool interactions:
Den Protector + Remand or Exhaustion or Gigadrowse = Extra turn (kinda).
Den Protector + Sakura-Tribe Elder = Extra land.
Vesuvan Shapeshifter + Den Protector = 1U: Eternal Witness effect.
Vesuvan Shapeshifter + Silumgar Spell-Eater = 1U: Counter spell unless opponent pays 3.
Vesuvan Shapeshifter + Shorecrasher Elemental = 1: Flip Vesuvan Shapeshifter face-down.
Thinking about replacing Shorecrasher Elemental with Stratus Dancer or Monastery Loremaster.
Thoughts? Feedback?
Spirit Bonds
Ajani's Pridemate
Lightning Berserker
Glitterfang
Goblin Rabblemaster
Precinct Captain
Herald of Anafenza
Twilight Drover
Thoughts?
