For the lone reader still keeping up with this thread: I will be converting my Norin list to Naya colors, with Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer at the helm. Norin essentially be 4cmc from now on for me. I've been waiting for some exciting Norin cards for quite some time, but my list is turning more and more to Mono Red Good Stuff to keep up with my meta. Hopefully the added ETB shenanigans in green and white will let me enjoy his Noriness once again.
true and if you're running mogg infestation turning the little myr into 2 gobies each starts loading the board up with this type. Edit: ohh, it's 1/1 red creatures. not goblins! Still, different type again.
Good point. I got it and put it in with the expectation of getting a ton of myr and dropping it. I may drop it also for the cost or keep and drop another higher cost cardOmen Machine instead. I'm focusing on the basic concept of Norin but also adding in a few more chaotic cards.

Yes, I have, and ran it for a little while. I just run too little of the same creature type tokens to really make it work, and don't like to be the aggressive looking player. Not doing enough for me.
Dropped by to say my thanks to you osie! I've been a long time lurker on here, for my 'pet-deck' and the periodic review of new series.
I can relate to what you are feeling with regards to the game as it is now opposed to what it once was.
Thanks for all your work with the site and this primer in particular. It is really the best send-off for new Norin-players that I know off.
It always surprises my how competitive this deck can be, if it all goes to plan (never lost a match with Norin in play and Confusion in the Ranks resolved). Last week I played a game with a new player to commander, I thought it would be nice not to get a cEDH deck so I opted for Norin instead. And I kept a classic Staxx opening hand with t2 Tangle Wire + Welder, to be followed with T5/6 Smokestack while Norin + Purph kept a certain ending for opponents in sight...Maybe not my finest moment in terms of getting a new player 'on board'...
But this deck to me embodies everything I like about MtG, it's a solid deck that is just an unpredictable adventure every time you play it.
Hey, you made me curious about your decklist :). Do you have it stored somewhere?
This is probably one of the last times I'm posting here. I've been growing away from the game and don't play very often, as I've mentioned in the past. My experience on this site has had ups and downs.

Ending on one of my favourite Doctor Who quotes feels fitting:
"We all change, when you think about it, we're all different people; all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this, not one day, I swear. I will always remember..."
Matt Smith, The Time of the Doctor
Darnit, Osie, I hate to see you go. Like Lyonhaert and you are saying, Norin is my only remaining link to mtgsalvation, and the thread has been dying for a while now. Personally I have never been one of the most active contributors, but I've been here for years and have enjoyed giving my few cents every once and a while. Currently, I really have to remind myself to visit every now and then and I'm not even here on a weekly basis now. With your departure, I feel like Norin is vanishing even more - no pun intended. I hope you'll find the joy in Magic back somehow, someday. For me, it's still a break from reality, even with all it's ups and downs. All the best, and I hope to find a post from you ocasionally.
Late to the game but: Boast isn't going to work for me. My meta is pretty much always just going to block and kill the Firewalker, and there's too much better draw in red and colorless for 3 mana already. I also don't really like Birgi's first ability, since it soft-forces us to play spells. These are not for me.
Then. Strixhaven. I didn't see anything I'm excited about I'm afraid apart from maybe Audacious Reshapers. Or did I miss something?
Imma test Tibalt's Trickery for sure. I love the fact that you don't see it coming, and I'm looking forward to the time I'm countering my own Curse of Opulence to reveal a Warstorm Surge after using SDT.
Also, I really overlooked Pyre of Heroes. I'm not a Pod fan in commander, but as you know I do run the goblin package. And saccing a token to fetch Goblin Welder. Also, the chain would go Norin the Wary --> Mogg War Marshal --> Squee, Goblin Nabob --> Krenko, Mob Boss.. Unchecked off course, and slow, but still... that's sweeeet. And good value and alternatives along the way.
I haven't tested the deck much since I revised it, since there's only one evening a week I'm able to get in some games and there's about fifteen decks I regularly want to play. That said, It does run better than it did, mainly because of the additional card draw and lower average CMC than it used to have. The main issue now is dealing with threats. I fear I run too little removal.
This is never going to be a tier one deck on our table, nor do I want it to be. So upping the power by adding Mana Crypts etc isn't worth it for me.
I really like the little chaos aspect that it has and I'm not willing to give that up. It's the only deck I have that does that.
I for one am still running both grip of chaos and planar chaos. They're two of the stronger red control cards, along with Blood Moon and possibly Stranglehold. In my meta, enchantment removal is still not really present, even though it's become pretty tuned. Norin is no longer one of the stronger decks, but still one of the more fun decks to play and although it's a bit more chaosy than your average deck, it's still pretty well-respected. And every now and then, it does some really powerful stuff.
When I get the chance, I'll post my most recent build. I've been updating it regularly now for years and recently rebuilt it from scratch.
From Commander Legends, I'd really want to give Wheel of Misfortune a shot. More wheel effects definitely seems worth it. Also, reading it again the way you put it Osie, Flamekin Herald is really the way I want to go with Norin. Having a shot at a Wheel of Fate (but not being certain you'll hit it) is exactly what I want to achieve in Norin. The other ones I'm considering are War Room (card draw is still an issue in my opinion) and Jeska's Will - the latter feels like a red 'intuitive' ponder in most cases I think.
Also, I got my hands on a Lithoform Engine recently and I'm tempted to try it out in Norin. Seems like there will be enough decent options to copy for us.
I don't much like the lotus for Norin. I have around 15 commander decks right now and considering it only for the decks that either want the commander out as quickly as possible (Azusa, Lost but Seeking, for example) or rely heavily on it to be on the battlefield (Rasputin Dreamweaver). That, plus the fact that I don't think it's often good enough to be run in decks with three or more colors, means that there's about four decks that it might be good in and I'm sure as hell not spending over a hundred euros to find that out. As an example: I have a K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth deck that meets both requirements (want it out early and need to stay), and it will resemble a Dark Ritual very much in that list - and that's not one of the better cards in the deck.
I changed my Norin to a Purphoros list in the past, and that version was relying more heavily on going wide, with cards like Snake Basket and Tempt with Vengeance. Moreover, I personally think Purphoros is, while undoubtedly more powerful, the more standard an frankly kind of dull option.
Fiery Emancipation isn't going to make the cut for me since I'm already running some cards that do nothing on their own and this more aggressive style of play doesn't really fit the way I want to be running Norin.
Another card I didn't see mentioned here, that I will be running, is Brash Taunter. I've always liked the Stuffy Doll effect, but hated that you had to choose one opponent when it hit play. The Taunter enables some nice political trickery. He works well with Ogre Battledriver and Purphoros, God of the Forge since the power increase lets him pick off creatures with bigger butts, and he's a really solid blocker. I don't quite know if the 5 cmc is going to be too much, but I'm definately taking him for a stroll.
On the stifle effects: I really don't worry about that. My playgroup has long given up on trying to keep Norin off the board, and the deck runs quite well without the brave general.
Lastly: I like your take on Lightning Phoenix, Osie. It'll be hard to find a spot for it, but having a flyer to be able to return from the graveyard after discarding him is tempting.
I had to read it a second time before I dared to believe that Norin actually was going to get a serious new toy to play with. It's been a long time since a card was printed that works so well with Norin's bouncyness. I love it and it's definetely going in.

TLDR: I'm not stoked.
In other news: what do we think about the new carddrawing options Wheel of Misfortune and Jeska's Will?
